Yeah but given the industry move to wireless everything they're moving into services for their higher-margin 'products'. Cables will die out, USB-C is probably a good stopgap before phones eventually have no ports whatsoever. (See the iPad Pro.) Inter-connectivity with their Mac line-up, better support for third-party accessories etc. It's kinda win win for both them and consumers, even if it does mean buying a bunch of new $5 usb c cables to charge your phone.
