Gonna be comparing these two and will be posting about it in a day or so

reposting my new x201, it's very cute

nice i got the x230t and the pen/digitizer is pretty great so im sure that one will be too

Sleeper build is the only option, if you can be bothered to make vents and reposition the PSU mounting points and MoBo layout. Or homeserver I guess.
Corebooted the X220 yet?

admit it, latitudes are much better looking than thinkpads

My friend's t440p is getting random BSODs with horizontal screen blurs/flickers (this even happened in bios). It's an integrated GPU issue, right? Is there a way to disable Intel graphics and stick with NVidia?

Is that your friend

>$1500 business laptop in 2019
>1366x768 TN display

No, 12" Latitudes suck cocks.

Yes (male)

notebookcheck compares stock to stock which is garbage, try undervolting and repasting and I guarantee the i7 will be faster

>article literally has undervolting
>article literally recommends to "optimize the CPU by yourself, either by reducing the core voltage (undervolting) or set fixed TDP limits for the processor"
>how is this an excuse for shitty stock power settings anyway

>repasting
Yes, disassembling and fixing the manufacturer's mistakes is the first thing on my mind when I buy a shiny new $2000 laptop.

Attached: reading is for faggots.jpg (499x500, 51K)

why is win 7 so shit? thought i'd try it out but hunting down drivers is hassle and half the time they either wont install or work correctly

> but can you do this?

Forgive me for shitting this thread up, but: For my T61, are all T60 parts compatible (palmrest, backcover, keyboard, bezels)? Should I grab a T60 mobo and trannyboot, or get the mobo and make is 8gb of ram and run 64 bit loonix.

Why bother?

Yeah i'm not i'm installing ltsb now kek, just thought i'd try it since so many people claim it's superior

mine's ips fhd user. bought it in stellar condition for the equivalent ~400$ (i5 6300u, 256GB SSD, 8 GB RAM)

Planning to buy a Thinkpad, but I've never bought anything out of ebay, and I'm clueless as to what to look for in a good deal. I've decided on getting a T440p, but what should I be looking for in ebay? Are there currently decent ones up right now?

"recommends" doesn't mean that they did anything faggot and it's not exactly my fault that lenovo applies thermal jizz instead of something reasonable, with new laptops this crap is so common that it's safe to assume that out of the box performance is literal garbage, previously all you had to do is install your own os because stock was filled with preinstalled bloatware and this is like literally the same thing except on the hardware level so yes it is the first thing on my mind even on a "shiny new $2000 laptop"

Dell removed the FHD option in e7290 for some inexplicable reason.

>lenovo applies thermal jizz
>out of the box performance is literal garbage
>filled with preinstalled bloatware

Well as I've originally said, sasuga chinks.

it's part lenovo part intel fault, they advertise both i5 and i7 as 15w parts while in reality i5 is 28w and i7 is 45w, so laptop manufacturer prepares a 15w cooling solution, slaps a 45w cpu on it and then press says retarded shit like "i5 is faster than i7", this shit is like putting intel stock box cooler on 9900k let it overheat like fucking crazy and then say that previous generation i5 is faster because it doesn't burst into flames, full retardation all around

Anything I should know about the Carbon G3? Looking for something lightweight but somewhat powerfull enough for my work and uni stuff + 14" display in a regular 13,3" body sounds pretty good.

go. back.

holy fuck they destroyed such a nice laptop series

Just ordered an IPS FHD kit for my T420, what am I in for?

I have ordered my dad a t430 from ebay, I was going to order a new battery mas well, do I avoid the chinese ones or are they ok?

the listing says 4gb ram, presumably that's 1x4gb instead of 2x2gb?

Attached: 1456694787900.png (2560x1600, 619K)

it's probably 2x2 and chink cells aren't too bad, if you dont mind spending the extra a legit cell would be a better choice. Go for a 9 cell not 6 though

Attached: 1542903132972.png (500x667, 324K)

Indeed, brother.

Some flickering in full-screen 1080p video, but otherwise not bad.

Anyone?

No.

do sd cards not show up in the boot menu?

The sd card slot is connected to the PCI, which doesn't show up, even though the m.sata PCI does.

I'm want something small, doesn't stand much from the USB ports.
Basically as a way to boot puppy linux, without using CD/USB, and since puppy load the whole OS to RAM, the reading speed isn't important.

on my x201 the sd reader shows up under usb in the boot menu ill check my other thinkpads

Attached: 1546062405803.jpg (879x1500, 126K)

I got an x230 what do I do to become a true ThinkChad apart from changing the keyboard

>x201
I only have T420 and X260 both don't detect the SD card reader during boot.
What's your BIOS? did you alter the mobo?
I'm referring to the SD card slot not sd card reader connected to the USB ports.

You don't need to change the keyboard if you haven't used the classic styled ones before

install thinklight.

yes i know the sd reader on the mother board kek and no it's not altered in any way, checked my x220 and t410 doesn't show up on either of those. It does show up on my x230t with coreboot/seabios

Attached: 1545092649496.jpg (1600x1600, 452K)

Whitelist, IPS screen, maybe coreboot?

If you want to be a complete future-thinking ThinkChad, you want to strengthen this little part (picture) in the end of the upper part of the lid with some two-part epoxy. This makes sure you can open the lid without it going 'wobbly' for the next 10 years of daily use.

Attached: 0KGtxwE.jpg (1200x900, 278K)

>It does show up on my x230t with coreboot/seabios
Is there an option for that? or it's enabled by default?
Thanks BTW.

What do we do in a few years when the good thinkpads become so obsolete they're unusable? My x220 is still going strong, but I don't know if that will still be the case in 5 years. Do the newer thinkpads even have any redeeming features besides newer specs?

The bullet that needs to sooner or later be bit is the (current) lack of support of streamlined flashing, island keyboard and general build-style of "thinner/slimmer" is better.

it just shows in the sea bios boot menu when pressing escape on the seabios screen

this should be added to a wiki.

The P/workstation series is as good as ever

I bought an X240 expecting disappointment.
I now use the X240 exclusively.

My x201 randomly goes into sleep mode sometimes is there any known cause of this?

why kek

Attached: 1505107182468.jpg (867x720, 110K)

why not?

I don't want to sound degrading as this word is negatively loaded on Jow Forums..

Would you call yourself an 'end-user'?

SEA BOIS DOES NOT PREVENT THE USE OF THE DEVICE AS A SUB PAR SOFA PILLOW.. STICK IT IN THE WIKI

How are they going to become obsolte if they have stuff like i5-8250u which is almost similar to the i7-7700HQ?

wat, how is that related to the E.g. i7-2640?

No. I deal with end users for a living.

>sea bios shows boot devices that's doesn't show with other BIOS

I got a thinkpad x31 for free recently and I installed lubuntu with it. Does anyone know a good browser for it?

lynx

im in the same shoes rn. I think there are different versions of the carbon. some with shitty tn panels of some unsaid resolution.
dont pay more than 500 bucks, look for fhd. otherwise youre good.

look into t440s/450s as well. they are kind of similar

>checking out bankruptcy auctions out of boredom
>a dozen old thinkpads have been put up
>bunch of people are raising the bid by 2-5€ at a time, top bid at the moment is 140€ for a celeron model with 120gb of storage
>about 15 unique id on that auction alone

Doesn't chrome books have more computing power for the same price?
I know professional grade hardware has its own value but this just sounds stupid to me, the batteries on those are long spent as well and there is no telling when the electrical components on the motherboard will start to fail.

Attached: 1531022057208.jpg (726x724, 194K)

This just in, lots of people are idiots.

There you go, my first memepad. It's a sl410 so not true business experience 4 me, but I'm still happy about it. I'll add an ssd + arch soon, and replace the battery too.

Does anyone know how I can lower the screen brightness on my t420s further than what Windows 10 typically allows?

Flash externally.

Is a T61 Model good? ($50) I'm a poorfag and an user wants to sell his one to me. He took a good care of it so I am 100% sure everything works.

Motherfucker! I spent an entire day trying to get my audio drivers working on my T60. I tried EVERYTHING! Scoured every thread etc. to no avail. And it turns out the fucking thing was muted. Kill me.

Is the ThinkPad P1 a good buy (what's the battery life like)? What's the battery life like on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon with 4K screen? Are the Lenovo ThinkPads any good or was ThinkPad only good under IBM?

So what's this boards obsession with lenovo laptops? I used to have a lenovo laptop and it was garbage.

They're the anti-macbook

it's cool somehow it didn't brick kek. think im gonna dump the bios to be safe though

maybe if you don’t have eyes also
>no clit
Certifiably Gay™

this piece of shit x230 is too fucking loud. Jesus. Also, the screen is shit. I should've just bought a regular cheap laptop.
Although I'll admit the keyboard and clit are nice.

what's the quietest thinkpad?

If you want to go with chink batteries, make sure you flash a modded BIOS, otherwise your laptop will refuse to work.

My T420 had one 4 GiB stick, but YMMV.

What the fuck are you doing to the x230 that makes it loud? Mine runs utterly silent pretty much constantly.

most thinkpads with ulv cpu can run fanless in normal daily tasks

Literally just using firefox with about 6 tabs open and some notes on the background.

T60 w/ Libreboot.
X230 (docked) w/ Coreboot, GRUB2 payload.
T510 (has a chicklet keyboard because the classic keyboard is in my X230. Soon to be rectified).

Attached: IMG_20190111_143740.jpg (4632x3474, 1.55M)

Just wanting to note that with some batteries, the flash is not necessary.

Reccomendafions on a thinkpad model I can upgrade? Will be performing simulations in Maltab as well as other general programming.

let me guess you didnt repaste the CPU (original paste is literally cum) and you got a TN screen?

all the rounded corners look like shit, also lack of trackpoint is bait-tier, I'm pretty sure there are better-looking latitudes. like pic related is really nice looking

Attached: 00I0I_gRsWZTmIQsq_1200x900.jpg (1200x884, 55K)

t420 or t430, apart from the usual memory and storage upgrades there are fhd screen mods available and since the processor's socketed it can easily be swapped for a quad core i7. Also look into hp elitebooks, they're also decent computers with almost the same upgrades available.

Which thinkapd should I get if I want a more modern machine that handles some light gaming and streaming which t4xx?

got that baby too for like 90€.
One of the best purchased i ever made
