How anonymous are Jow Forums users?

Janitors and Moderators can delete threads and ban posts from offending IP addresses. At least some of them are volunteers. Some might be employees.

There is a JSON interface - github.com/Jow Forums/4chan-API
And archive sites - archived.moe/

Do Janitors or Moderators have access to the IP address of each post?

It probably wouldn't be a big deal to scrape that data (IP/post) and share it with others, perhaps a clique or a gang.

>JSON interface
Does anyone here develop their own custom Jow Forums interface?

That would be telling.

Yes

Only an idiot (or a teenager) would build such a thing and not monitor it.

The hash for IDs on Jow Forums has already been cracked so you can work out the IP addresses of posters.

Starting this thread got me an "off-topic" ban.

I believe that moderators can see the IP each post was made from, and also see other posts made by the same IPs. I am unsure if they're able to track pass users through their passID.

Jannies can't ban, they can only delete and submit a ban request or something.

I do not believe that janitors do, but mods certainly do.

[citation needed]

they banned you but didn't delete the thread?

>they banned you but didn't delete the thread?
Correct. It seems a bit odd, don't you think?

it's time for an audit

Bans are little more than a form of communication that exposes Jow Forums's (the social organization) characteristics.

"i know that if you get banned and you think it was a mistake, you have to worm your way into the irc channel in order to complain about it to anyone who'll actually listen, and even then they can't do anything about it."

>Jannies can't ban, they can only delete and submit a ban request or something.
I keep getting banned this evening so I guess there is a moderator out there doing a very poor job.
