How long do you think your thinkopad x220/t420 is going to last you? What will you use next?

I still use an X61t daily.

T400 best ThinkPad

bruh
it's slow

No, it's fine with a sata2 SSD.
Also the only device that classifies as an upgrade from this starts at $1200.

i got a stripped t430 in storage waiting for when i feel this x200s is too slow for day-to-day use sooo its gonna be a while for me

i'm sure chinks will make a custom motherboard for it like they have the x60 and x201. i'll probably cop one for thsoe

i have 100% libre freedom x220
>coreboot
>guixsd

I still use a ThinkPad R60 from late 2006. I don't need anything better. It has a 2GHz dual core CPU, 3GB RAM, and an 80GB disk. It has one of the best 4:3 displays you can get in a laptop. I have other laptops but I don't use them as often because their displays are shit.

I sure hope you gutted the IME and TXE firmware with me_cleaner, faggot.

I'll buy any newer computer with a keyboard like that in the t420... if they start making them again, of course.

It's almost 2020, those old gen cpu's won't keep the pace anymore with the new pajeet webdev technologies.

They already don't. And we don't need them to. Fuck the modern web. It's all cancerous trash and I don't use it anyways.

>be a brainlet
>hear that thinkpads are good
>buy an e-series
>after one week of use the built-in microphone stops working

FUCK ME IN THE ASS

>100% libre freedom
>coreboot
you still have intel_me in even if you stripped. so closes yet so far

>buying anything other than t, x or w
>choosing a model with a built in microphone
>actually wanting the built in microphone

Meant for
I am retarded

I already upgraded to a newer T-series Thinkpad and it's better in every way including build quality.

Jow Forums can have mine when I'm done with it, for an inflated hipster price of course.

Have an x201 and a t430, I think I'll be fine.

Lenovo made a big mistake using the Thinkpad brand for cheap consumer trash.

It is the sole reason people think modern Thinkpads are worse than old.
They should have reserved it for the T and P series (modern X series is also crap, but 14" T series is light enough to replace it anyways)

I still use a T61 daily

I'll absolutely use my X220 as long as humanly possible, it's plastic is already smashing on the edges from drops and bumps over the year, but there are still plenty on the secondary market from businesses and government.

I don't use it for anything but typing essays and reports so why would I ever upgrade? After Win7 loses support next year a linux distro will be fine. Laptops aren't about power they're about startup speed, battery life, and ease of use. The X220 (with mSata) still has it all.

i think that the main thing that would make me stay with my t420 is the keyboard. the specs are decent and i'm, of course, running linux so that makes the experience much better.

so, if possible, i would never replace this laptop for another one.

Was given an x280 to replace my x220 at work (IT refused to have it on the system anymore because 'security').

A fucking 768p TN panel...

My biggest problem with the modern X2xx series is the all plastic construction.

The build is nowhere close to a modern T series.
It's basically a shrunk down L series.

When people claim modern Thinkpads aren't build as solid as older ones they are referring to X series.
They never tried a modern T or P series because they fell for the ultraportable meme.

you're slow

Why not just buy dell insperons?

>no trackpoint
trash

Let's be real for a moment
We're not going to get one on a modern device.
I'm sorry brother we need to move on

thinkpads still exist

But the boomers caught on and the price point is higher with shit quality.

well yeah true
personally i'd still pay it as "trackpoint tax" or make some bullshit like that to justify it, maybe buying refurb units
going back to a touchpad after using the trackpoint for years feels so fucking retarded and unnatural

Had a x61t
Shit lasted me through college.
I had to make the hard call once I started working professionally....
The newer models will never compare on any level and even the x/200s feel like shit next to it.

ikr
>x61t
it only took lenovo 11 years to release a worthwhile update from that device, and i bet that the quality is worse

>update
upgrade*

my issue with X61 it's the heating on the palmrest. Still use it, but my X220 is much preferred

what the fuck am i looking at

I was broke as a broke dick dog
That machine made a poor kid with no support into a self sufficient individual in tech.
That machine is priceless in my eyes

x230 here. probably a few more years. going to buy another x/t series thinkpad or maybe a dell latitude or hp elitebook

So do Latitudes

I bought an X220 tablet like a few days ago
16gb ram and 256gb SSD will see it lasting half a decade at least

half a decade with 16gb ram? more like decade and a half

I put an 8GB stick of ram in my T420 so I have 12GB now I think I will be able to last until used ryzen thinkpads start showing up for ~$200

I use a x61s, waiting for my x60s to arrive so I can coreboot it.
I just use it for watching videos mostly, they're not that bad. As long as I'm not using web based applications I'm actually fine, I don't need anything else atm.
BTW I also own a t420 and I expect that to last quite a while.

>bought an e series
this is where you fucked up
also forget about the internal mic, it's probably a good thing that it broke.

>not disabling the mic and webcam in the BIOS as soon as you got it

12 years maybe. I'm gonna be putting an Ivy Bridge CPU and 16GB of RAM into it along with an SSD so it lasts me as long as possible. I can only hope that by then the laptop market will have semi-decent offerings.

Seriously? Explain.

It's a lifetime part.

The Dell D630 I have as backup.

Considering you can replace all the parts, it could last a long ass time.
Battery and HDD will be the first to go, and are super easy to replace.

my x220 isn't really doing it for me anymore, but minor upgrades seem most expensive than they should be. have prices absolutely gone to shit in the last 3~ years or are these real miser hours?

I use the newest vaio

This series of Latitude had really nice keyboards.

A custom X220 of course

Whatever my employer is throwing away at that time.

I have an x220. Should I upgrade to x230 or just upgrade the ram and put in an ssd on my x220

>How long do you think your thinkopad x220/t420 is going to last you?
At least another 20 years.

It saddens me that my profession involves video editing, which I literally cannot do on any libreboot compatible machine

i hope it lasts me until i can afford a better computer

my x220 is slowly dying and I can feel it every day, I'm switching to an x240 because it's cheaper and selling my x220 while I still can

In what way is it dying?

Don't care. It just needs to last for a while.

I have a W530, it's my second, and when this one will die, I will buy another one.

I will continue until I die, or until a new line of inexpensive and fantastic laptop fall from heaven.

Thanks for reminding me why I use Pornhub over xshamster

>implying MindGeek is better
They're not. Just less retarded in their PR.

Don't watch porn, user.

I own one and it's slow. The touch screen only works with the pen. What OS do you put on it?

I want to finally change my T420 this year, buy there's no real alternative. Or it's waaaaaay overpriced.

Win10 LTSC so i can scroll by dragging like a phone, i'd use W7 but it doesn't do that.
Also of course it only works with the pen, back then palm rejection wasn't a thing or worked like shit so you can rest your palm on the screen.

just bought an x220 a couple of months ago and it's been serving me quite well. The guy who had it before me probably did actually browse /tpg/ since he had the most up to date modded BIOS on it, a 256gb ssd, and 8GB ram. It's the i5 2540M model, so the processing power isn't great but it doesn't really lag when browsing the internet or typing shit up, which is really all I use it for.
Even was able to setup a win7 VM to use excel and a few other windows specific programs in, and the performance is acceptable.

I'm honestly not sure what to do when the cpu becomes too weak to continue using. There aren't even any comparable replacements, especially after taking into consideration the price you can get these old thinkpads for.

NANI!!???

I will die using it. They will have to take it from my cold dead hands.

>not going to the hole with your riced ThinkPad

drop it from 15cm onto a flat level surface

don't be a pussy

I got an X200, next one will be an X250, probably, although it's no upgrade.

My X200 lasts for 12 hours easy.

There is nothing else left to use when x220 breaks down
