What's a good Linux-friendly laptop that's easy to transport which isn't ThinkPad (ThinkPad has Intel ME backdoor CVEs)?

macbook air
All laptops have Intel me backdoor or the amd version of it. You can't escape the bot et with modern computers.
chromebook with arm
Unless you're running on an ARM, some obscure open source processor, or on some ancient shit from pre-Intel monopoly, you got backdoors as a feature.

Powermac G3 or G4
bought Dell Latitude 14 (5490) recently and it's okish. there are newer models to pick from
haven't yet tried compatibility with OpenBSD, but it has intel wifi module so I guess it will work
specs are great
- 14" 1980x1080
- Intel Core i5-8250U
- 8GB RAM DDR4 (can finally compile Chromium, 4 GB was not enough)
- 256GB SSD M.2 PCIe (hello fast boot times and gaym loading)
- Intel UHD Graphics 620 (wanted Intel due to bad previous experience with the dual GPU bullshit and this is least trouble)
build quality seems also good, keyboard has a good feel and layout, display has good brightness unlike ThinkPads
now the criticism:
- sound is trashy above 40% volume
- charger has builtin LED, too bright in night. either unplug or some ducktape can solve that
- not as light as I expected it to be, but 1.6 kg is one of the lighter
- not so great port positioning. charger, LAN and one of USBs from back, sides nearly unused with 1 USB on each
- no CD/DVD driver
You can buy system76 or purism laptop, with deactivated intel ME backdoor and you also have coreboot option.
Dell XPS 13 has a model with Ubuntu pre-installed. That's probably a safe bet.
X200 with libreboot.
t. uninformed brainlets
Librem
system 76 disabled me in theirs
why do you care about backdoors?
do you really think the government gives enough shit about you to tap into your computer?
Its great choice for lunix. I testes arch and fedora on it. All chipsets work without any problems.
God damn I hope to be terry levels of comfy some day, living in car programming and not having to give a shit about anything, looking like some fucking lunatic (already halfway there, just need more grey) fuck paying my mortgage a van is cooler and cheaper
Imagine actually believing this
toshiba satelite
majority of people have backdoor bloatware by vendor anyway
this is bigger deal for massive servers since chinaman and israle will learn to exploit it
Thinkpad x60s with libreboot
Insperon is also a good choice
Speakers are also shit but easy to solve with pulse aufio
If your using Jow Forums the government has you on a list dude. don't be so naive. they target people just for reading the linux journal.
In my experience, Pentium M laptops are still quite usable, depending oon what your use case is, and they're ME free. Personally, I prefer to use laptops with at least a dual core, though.
