If one is equipped with a Android phone with Magisk and Xposed, what are the apps he must have in order to have a satisfying experience with this OS? I'll post some examples of what I have right now. For the rooted essentials : >Adaway It goes without saying. No ads and I prefer hosts editing. >AFWall+ Once again it goes without saying. Denying internet access to apps who doesn't need it at all so that they don't send anything to companies. Using it in sync with SwiftKey is a good application >Lucky Patcher Also goes without saying. Great to override licensed apps behind a paywall or to remove Google ads >Substratum So you can look cool and rice your device >YouTube Vanced If you don't use this or Newpipe in the current year you're retarded
Xposed modules : >Minminguard Block ads AND removes the white space. In combination with Adaway : complete ad-free experience >Amplify Control wake locks so that you can get rid of things that empty your battery. Actually it's not really needed if you only use open source apps but if you're a retard with social media then it could be useful >Lucky Patcher and AFwall+ Some fixes and additional parametered >XprivacyLua I don't know if it's placebo or not, but at least it correctly denies access to the permissions checked.
Magisk : >Volume Steps Plus Useful if you want a better control of your phone's volume, especially during calls. The way Android handles it is retarded >RAM management fixes by crok I don't know if it's placebo but I'm using it right now and I didn't really notice a difference.
Root needed or not post some apps that you cannot live without
Are there any good FOSS lock screen app/lock screen wallpaper setter? I removed most of the bloat from my Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime and fucked up something used to set the lockscreen wallpaper, possibly the default file manager.
Charles Gonzalez
That's why you use SuperSU to actually manage root permission on a per-app basis

FDroid is of course the first thing I install, then termux

is supersu chinese or something?
Mason Rodriguez
Chainfire quit developing for Android and he gave SuperSU for a Chinese company to continue it's development.

Vanced vs. Newpipe? Fight
Eli Long
what do you guys think about blokada for removing adds without root?
Julian Hughes
And it hasn't been updated since forever
Cameron Powell
Searched for adaway, sounded good. Thought it was a system wide ad blocker.
How is it as a browser? I like yandex atm. It's fast (basically chrome) but the ux is good and I love the address bar being at the bottom.
Also suggests for ad blockers that aren't browser extensions?
Eli Ward
klwp so you can do cool stuff like this also adhell3, youthbe vanced and nova launcher
It's a VPN instead of Hosts so if that suits your needs better then do it but for many it wont

I wanted to post : what the fuck is wrong with you weebs why are you always trying to associate technology with your manchild interests. It's not healthy

> lock screen app Don't go down that hole, they're ALL shit. Including the proprietary ones. > wallpaper setter Simple Gallery
> browser IceCatMobile or Fennec F-droid with uMatrix blocking everything, smarthttps too ..or Tor Browser Alpha. Not sure if they fixed the thing where websites know you're on mobile yet > adblocker Adaway if you have root, Blokada or Adguard if you don't.

Yalp store is a must for some pajeet apps but it doesn't work lately

If you don't want spyware social media apps running in the background I guess, but Shelter is already way better for that.

Not essential but Limbo X86 if you want to run some windows programs for some reason

I had never heard about Shelter before. Thanks.

Is there better launcher for customization freaks than Lightning Launcher?
Julian Murphy
I prefer Nova
Kayden Hill
>Orgzly Emacs orgmode but it's an app >Vinyl Music Player Best free as in freedom music player >NetGuard AdAway/Afwall substitute for phones without root >K9 Mail FOSS secure email client. Not compatible with Tutanota or Protonmail; they have their own apps
Nathaniel Foster
Will installing a lightweight launcher diminish battery usage? Any recommendations?
Nathan Bailey
>this is what poodroid users have to do just to use their phones without issues. You can criticize iOS all you want, but it literally just works, that's it.
No, this is what android users have to do to use their phones without google shit, while iOS babbies cannot do anything about big brother applel and his locked-up """"phone""""
Connor Thompson
Why would I do anything in the first place? Apple cares about my needs as a consumer. It's why I chose them and their products in the first place.
Only thing I've had issues with are some paid apps that use Play Services as part of their licence verification check and they crash. I've found one way around this is if the app doesn't explicitly need internet access, blocking it with AFWall+ can prevent the app shutdown that would occur when the licence check occurred. Another option is Lucky Patcher.
Jason King
I've been experiencing the issue for like 4 days now. Back to YouTube vanced until it is fixed.
Bentley Thomas
I tried YouTube Vanced but I didn't see any difference I thought it was like og YouTube but I don't know it's purpose

Any time I try to play any video in any way it just "loads" for 10 seconds before aborting with the >Could not play this stream message. Same error it gives for removed videos.
Robert Kelly
For me it's the black theme "feature" and playing things in background. Other than that it has nothing special and you're better off using Newpipe
Christopher Smith
ho come on now user , don't ruin the
fun
This is a comfy thread right now.
i need a good VPN , i want to hear some music on spotify wich is region locked. Some people said tunnel bear is cute but i don't know.
i heard something about a legit VPN service but i can't remember the name.

Mullvad with wireguard via the kernel module for android. Comfy as fuck.
Colton Morris
Thoughts on lineage os? Former itodler here
Alexander Diaz
Buy an Android phone that has an unlockable bootloader and official support for this (lineage.microg.org/) or AOSPExtended
Luke Butler
>black theme >playing things in background So... same as Newpipe?
Kayden Miller
It also has built in adblocking but I wouldn't say it's as free of tracking etc. as Newpipe
Zachary Sanchez
>It also has built in adblocking So... still the same as Newpipe?
Yes. The only reason I would use Vanced over Newpipe if I was a zoomer would be for the comments or things like that. Meaning that there's actually no reason to use any other app than NEWPIPE.
Julian Gonzalez
You mean I can get rid of the google play store? Sounds too good to be true. I was wondering if there is a way to restrict read and write access to specific path for each app individually like you do in a desktop? Doesn't feel good to me that every app that has basic r/w can see most of my data.
Oh also what kind of kernel are you using? I researched some that are not compatible with my phone and I'm not sure if custom kernel are that useful, optimize battery maybe?
Dominic Fisher
Root your phone, install a terminal emulator, start a root session and modify permissions until your hearts content.
I am using a Moto G5 Plus with AOSP Extended Pie and am using it's default kernel, which is Drunk Kernel I believe. It's up-to-date patch wise and has everything else I need such as wireguard support.
Microg is a complete FOSS replacement for Google Play Services. I can still download Play Store apps if I need them via Yalp Store, which is a play store replacement but really only venture outside of F-Droid if I have too.
Grayson Gutierrez
That said, I wouldn't recommend modifying permissions as root unless you really know what you're doing as it isn't really necessary for just managing apps. I would say disable app permissions via Settings on the phone first and install an app like Appopsx to further manage access of apps from certain permissions before using chmod etc.
Brandon Thomas
OK thanks seems reasonable. I wouldn't dream of managing each apps and dependencies individually. I just thought the "default" r/w access seemed too permissive.
I'm rooted and good to go for most of my app permission management. I'm looking forward to try what you guys were recomanding.
Isaiah Gutierrez
I'd recommend magisk for root if you're rooted any other way? Where are you from BTW?
Chase Ortiz
There's no fight. Vance is proprietary garbage with less functionality and more bloat. Are you retarded?
Kevin Garcia
I'm using the root addon that was provided on lineage repos, is it su? I'm not exactly sure. Yeah I was planning to try magisk too. From baguetteland, u?
Check out magisk here (Magisk Manager is the app that gives you a GUI for magisk after flashing the Magisk Zip in your recovery (hopefully you're running TWRP?) or otherwise. If you're already rooted, getting magisk up and running won't be too hard. Ausfagland for me
Also here is the Yalp Store my baguette friend. You can get it off of F-Droid but this version has the old UI. The Github version has the contemporary (Material) UI
Official YouTube app is just so much less clunky. I pretty much have to use the official app if i want to zoom to fill a 18:9 phone
Aaron Gonzalez
Agreed, I've always run the dev version and have never had any if the problems some of the idiots here parrot.
Alexander Davis
>>XprivacyLua >I don't know if it's placebo or not, but at least it correctly denies access to the permissions checked. It seems you didn't leave your cave for a while, OP.
Good read, thanks for posting. I donated cash to him because I do like his Fairmail app and he spends a lot of time developing it, but that has been forked now as Simplemail which is also on F-Droid and has the paid features for free, so I might swap.
Both posts on this blog look more like butthurt from some (((android developer))) who isn't happy with corrupted statistics. The main argument is "hurr durr xprivacy lua does not fully protect privacy!!!111", which is obvious for everyone with IQ bigger than 90. Nothing does. And I don't see any fault with this module doing its only job - blocking permissions.
Ryan Morris
Do you know how to reduce the in-call volume via Magisk or otherwise? I use Volume Steps Plus but the minimum volume is still too loud.
Caleb Cooper
I still use Firefox + Jow Forums X even on mobile because I hate myself apparently.
Juan Butler
appbrain ad detector androlyzer permission friendly apps exodus privacy suspicious apps (not sure if available for all cause its old) app permission watcher privacy advisor pro information capabilities of a zero permission app app detective app freezer
behe keyboard (some reason hacker keyboard no longer shows up in store) private browser -tabero inbrowser adw launcher 2 (ONLY good launcher, nova fags work for botnet) dns changer fake gps lens cap rootless pixel launcher (not as good as adw 2) no root firewall
Just remember when setting up droid phone to disable as much stuff as possible check almost ALL apps data usage and disable running in backround use UNpersonalized ads turn off sync And all this without root

>download newpipe >click on a video >see pic related Very good youtube player >download vanced >same good ui as normal YouTube app >allows for Google account features, like reccomend videos >you can use picture-in-picture (dont know about newpipe since it won't start a video) Just werks™
Find me a keyboard with better prediction and correction so I don't have to waste time typing letter by letter. Yeah, using it with Afwall is a great excuse.
James Cook
>AFwall doesn't excuse it Not him, but how can it be a botnet if the data cannot be sent?
It's the only android keyboard that has iphone like dynamic sized key hitboxes. Unfortunately it's abandonware, don't know if it got hit by apple lawsuit or what, it's still available on play store but with no update in years.
Lincoln Wilson
Interesting concept. I might try it.
