Yeah, pretty much this.

No one needs a good GPU for 3D modeling anymore.

The only thing that begins to be intensive is Zbrush when it encroaches on 5 million polygons.

Computational Chemistry and Molecular Simulations

Isn't the CPU better for that sorta thing

Cheaper videocards are either too small to fit in my ass or don't have enough power to jiggle my balls at full fan speed

Not really, since I'm dealing with very large sets of data keeping track of multiple things at one time a GPU is perfect for taking in large amounts of data while still maintaining the same accuracy as a CPU. It is also very nice as it can model many things and trajectories with parallelization much better than a CPU can. while a CPU can work, the accuracy difference is marginal at most and significantly slower when keeping track of thousands of molecules at one time. the parallelization here is actually useful and not memed like it usually is

If you're doing basic trash for 3d printing. You might even get away with it if you're doing simple embedded gears and worm shafts. Not likely though.

If you're doing anything with around 200 parts you NEED at a minimum a wx 2100. Thats only at 1080. Ramp the resolution up to 4k and you are suddenly chugging along at 20fps in the view port.

fukin nerd

Well paid nerd to you.

I have played video games 18 hours a day for 10 years now so a good graphics card is worth the money.

Isn't this from that one early 2000s flash game website? I forgot the name of the one I used to go to all the time....

Upscaling anime to 4k with decent quality

Games and I may use it for my machine learning class. I did my last assignment using the CPU for all the math. Kind of slow. Took 15 minutes for my program to run for 50 epochs.

To run GNOME

unironically gaming in 2019

Obviously I don't /need/ it as I could live a perfectly happy, comfortable life without it. But I /want/ it because I have a 4K monitor and I spend a fair bit of time gaming.

you need at least 200$ for a decent non-used GPU nowadays, user.

How come so many people here claim to do CAD shit? How many mechanical engineers use this board?

Wtf man. No, no it's not. It predates flash by nearly a decade. It's a DOS game.

I miss times when everyone tried and failed to beat Crysis in technology and looks.
It was an real era of innovation and pushing solutions for consumer use.

i use intel hd 3000 graphics since 2002 . this is best solution.
