What in Christ's name has become of Microsoft? Windows was a unique and functioning OS up until Win8 came out in 2013. It's like they just wanted to completely give up and copy Apple. Then Apple went full pants on head retarded and Windows is just a disjointed embarrassment now. I have to use the latest Michaelsoft suite of shit for one of my classes and it's such a pain in the dick.
What in Christ's name has become of Microsoft? Windows was a unique and functioning OS up until Win8 came out in 2013...
>Gates left
>Ballmer left
It's like Apple without Jobs
More like everyone that actually knew how to program an OS left and they were replaced by code monkeys and diversity program rejects
Too big for their own boots, like IBM and Xerox.
>gates and ballmer were ever anything but money grubbing businessmen
Normalfags don't care enough about spying, adware, forced updates and etc. They see pretty colorful tiles on black with a built in assistant and they NEED it.
Who's the equivalent of Wozniak in Microsoft?
Paul Allen ofc. Shame you don't know that.
They made shit so good people weren't buying the new shit fast enough so with 10 they tried to force it.
Windows just becomes worse and worse as a desktop OS every generation because of the layers of cruft that they refuse to get rid of ever. It was bad enough when the OS was bloatware because of this, but this has even spilled over into the UI, with tons of different interfaces and graphics clashing together. The consumer is feeling the effects of the bloat and age that has turned off the tech-savvy for years. Until Microsoft abandons support for old software it will be shit, which will never happen.
I've heard stories before where people working at microsoft now don't even know what the hell some of the code even is for and are hella afraid to touch it.
How does Satya Nutella's big turd colored dong feel on the back of your throat?
They were going mobile. Since that failed miserably, they're now doing SaaS instead. And that's probably the business plan.
The hell? I'm saying 7 was good and he wasn't involved in that.
I'm sorry, I've heard people say Windows was "good" or "better than the competition" before, but never "so good". That description is just hilarious to me. Even Windows 7 was just less shit than Vista and worse than XP for its time.
Well nothing's perfect I just mean as far as windows goes it was prob the best it ever got and has been down ever since, and they weren't making money on people getting new versions.
It's a good choice for them, in that SaaS is a good way of leeching money off of poor dopes who have never had a service lock them in and leech more money from them before or have a service die on them. Although I suppose every Windows version becomes a horrifying virus pit the minute Microsoft drops support for it.
>Until Microsoft abandons support for old software it will be shit, which will never happen.
They could just have an integrated virtualization framework for the old stuff. Kinda similar like apple had for a while for PowerPC macs.
True that.
You literally provided 0 substance to your opinions.
8 is no different than any other release of Windows. It still maintains compatibility while adding to the platform. What Apple has to do with this at all makes no sense.
Unless the only thing you focus on is the UI which is about as meaningless as possible since it does not change as drastically as people say. Window decorations are in the same place, hotkeys are the same, the fucking start menu that people complain about so much is functionally equivalent as its first release in Vista.
>but it look different!
Who fucking cares, theme it like you've been able to do since fucking 1995 if you give a shit about this garbage.
How is adding shit like a hypervisor, Linux ABI compatibility, sane package management interfaces, workspaces, and more, somehow negatively impact the "unique and functioning OS". You're full of shit.
Windows 10 still runs MS-DOS code, it's insane
That would be too much of a sane choice, which means Microsoft will never do it.
Any successful company/organization attracts parasites that kill it from within.
They've already doe it before with VirtualXP.
They've already done it with transparent x86 compat on ARM.
They're already working towards it with their current sandbox in Windows 10 that takes advantage of Hyper-V.What are you talking about?
Which is why Windows still has design deficiencies and unfixable bugs from the 1980s or earlier and is the only remaining major OS in the world that is a non-UNIX operating system.
I didn't know, I haven't used Windows since XP.
Man this thread is bogus. I'm out.
Well, I guess that's what I get for admitting I didn't know something. Next time I'll just pretend I knew all along like everyone else on Jow Forums would.
>It's like they just wanted to completely give up and copy Apple.
Microsoft has always followed Apple, always. Windows has never been more than a third-rate copy of the Mac OS interface. To believe otherwise is delusional.
Then the iPhone and iPad happened. As usual, Microsoft was caught pants down with its dick in its hand, having no actual strategy for the new mobile-first computing paradigm that was rapidly emerging. So rather than carefully designing a standalone mobile platform the way Apple did with iOS, it did what any predictable monopoly would do, and try to leverage its flagship desktop OS by fusing it with a half-assed touch interface (aka a toaster-fridge).
The result you have today is a Frankenstein's Monster of clashing and overlapping UIs, ironically leaving Windows worse off than it's ever been.I don't understand how anyone could actually enjoy using such a glaringly sloppy OS.
>What Apple has to do with this at all makes no sense.
Windows 8 was very obviously Microsoft's gambit to capture the rapidly growing tablet market led by the iPad. There's no other way of reading into it.
the vision of the future all these companies had used to be optimistic and their products reflected it. now, their views are cynical, and the products reflect that too.
>windows 8 copied apple
You didn't honestly believe you could replace western developers with H1B street shitters and nothing bad would happen, did you?
>Windows was a unique and functioning
Kek
To start, the very first Windows version was a Macintosh ripoff (though the story is more complicated). Then with every single version it became slower and got more botnet. 98 was basically 10 of its time. Winfags used to be butthurt about 98, XP, Vista, 7 before 8, and they just ate it up. I can imagine this post but saying that 10 was amazing and the next version is shit
Do I install 8.1 or 10 for my dad's new build?
Ubuntu
> Winfags used to be butthurt about 98, XP, Vista, 7 before 8
Nope, butthurt was about 95 and ME. 98SE, 2000 and 7 were good and only boomers denied it, staying on unsupported software for years.
Much like the rest of digital culture we were infiltrated
And only boomers deny that 10 is good.
I would guess it's there to keep pajeet and Chan on the payroll
this. ubuntu w/ gnome is the boomer os. big buttons on the side. all the programs u need. just werksTM
Well, duh, but I'll keep my boomer privilege this time. UWP programs are designed with high PPI in mind, meaning they fit less info in the same space. I prefer to keep my font small.
10 is good if you dont have to install it and have 16gigs of ram
Unless you gas them of out existence like in proper societies.
Windows simply binds with the hardware manufacturers and major Games and Pro Software vendors that's why we are locked and no free market actually happens
Can you imagine yourself in the future as a grown up and not caring about OS that much anymore? Is it a bright future?
Try to anticipate it in the here and now and become a better person.
America invented replicas after destroying Europe, America needs to go soon.
This/ But since democracy is the rule of the majority, and eastern cunts multiply faster than the speed of light you are already lost your own game, knights
They let developers loose on it. Now they're constantly just """finishing""" stuff but won't update it. So we get """new""" things every week and they're all broken.
Fortunately they're moving away from GUI and going more towards CLI with PS and shit so maybe things won't be so goddamn gay
Does anyone actually utilize the assistant? Actually, ANY assistant? It seems far more practical and faster to just do things yourself as far as reminders and shit goes.
Lol do you know where you are?
>What happened?
Smartphones happened and everything went flat and square
>Usability doesn't matter bro!
yeah ok
Last time I tried Cartagena she couldn't reply with a simple Google/Bing result, so she's useless and falling behind.
Windows has been pozzed since vista and never really recovered.
>but muh win7
Win7 was the incubation period after the initial booty flu.
>they'll improve the software once they have a captive audience
user, I...
Well on top of that her voice is fucking obnoxious I can't stand her
I was maybe gonna put Linux mint on my mom's computer. Maybe I'll try that. They're paranoid about the win10 spying even though they have cell phones kek
Implying UNIX is the pinnacleof os design.
It's not the pinnacle, just a hell of a lot better and more standard than what MS puts out.
Microsoft became an Indian company.
Bill and Steve might have been anti-competitive pieces of shit, but Salty Nutella doesn't even pretend to care about the customers.
>Microsoft has always followed Apple, always. Windows has never been more than a third-rate copy of the Mac OS interface. To believe otherwise is delusional.
I agree with this.
>More like everyone that actually knew how to program an OS left and they were replaced by code monkeys and diversity program rejects
Can't find it but there is an image that I picked up from Jow Forums.
It's was a chat with a former Microsoft employee and he explained that barely anyone understood the code for Windows or how anything worked.
They'd just try change things that would end up breaking something else.
Basically trial and error to get anything done.
Rather than ever building OS's from scratch they'd literally copy paste code from the old OS into the new.
It's apparently a huge cluster fuck everyone pretending is alright.
Basically pic related
>Windows was a unique and functioning OS up until Win8 came out in 2013. It's like they just wanted to completely give up and copy Apple.
You fucking millennial are full of shit.
Have you ever seen the early version of Windows, from 3.1 onwards? They were a shitty, chink-level ripoff of MacOS and people *loved* it. When Windows 95 came out, which was a somewhat decent ripoff of MacOS, people would literally line up and camp outside of stores to get it. It was like a modern iphone launch, but in 1995.
Windows kept copying MacOS and OS X versions starting from XP, and people would love it more and more and line Microsoft's pockets.
Then ONE single time Windows did something new, with Windows 8, that had a coherent design language and merits, and was a standalone creation by Microsoft, Metro was even praised by UI designers. And people HATED it, they avoided it like the plague and now came to be considered one of the worst releases ever.
Is it such a surprise then that Microsoft reverted to good old copying?
You dumbass have it completely backwards, Windows 8 was the *only* time Microsoft didn't copy Apple, and you think it was shit *because* it copied Apple. You're part of the problem desu.
>It's like they just wanted to completely give up and copy Apple.
Even with the all iOSification, I find macOS still pretty usable in comparison with Windows 10
can attest to this, windows is suffering from extreme spaghetti code
I remember that Metro also was attacked in the bases of literally don't know what to be.
>Am I a tablet OS?
>No, I'm a desktop OS?
>but I'm touch friendly
>but I'm in a computer with a keyboard and mouse
>Why I have two control panels?
>Rather than ever building OS's from scratch they'd literally copy paste code from the old OS into the new.
You are a moron if you imply that this is necesarily a bad thing.
Everyone that the old cruft is causing problems in Windows is a retard, because it isn't the problem that Windows 10 suffers in a noticeable manner.
Of course. But design and UI wise, what was attacked was the legacy UI with its shitty control panels, dialog boxes, etc. that made everything a mismatch. Designers at the time would shit on Microsoft for not making everything Metro, because they liked metro.
As fate would have it, Metro was the one to be deprecated by microsoft while the legacy shit remained to reign supreme.
That's my gripe with Windows 10. They will get ride of the redundant things in the future. And I believe that they are in path to get rid of compatibility and make it optional. But, my god, you should not release half baked shit.
That's why Yosemite was a piece of shit. Apple wanted to revamp macOS internals in a radical way, but instead they decided to release small upgrades until today.
What is Mojave now it should have been Yosemite with a proper time frame, five or six years of development, not small upgrades announced as full releases.
I bet that Apple still hasn't reintegrated all the functions in Disk Utility. I can use terminal, but I know that the average macfag is scared of it.
>What is Mojave now it should have been Yosemite with a proper time frame, five or six years of development, not small upgrades announced as full releases.
Agreed.
Because Apple understands that desktop and mobile UIs are fundamentally different in the relationship between input and output devices. They only bring iOS features over to the Mac when doing so makes sense in the Mac context, not simply to achieve some arbitrary parity between the two.
Microsoft by contrast lacks any such design sense.
This is the quality I expect from open source projects, not companies.
I suppose that both are shitty at software development.
IMO Yosemite was pretty rough but El Capitan fixed most issues, and it only got better from there. Well, except for the "holy shit" security bugs that were found in High Sierra.
The head of the windows dev team is a zoomer woman who spams emojis and only cares about aesthetics and social features while everyone else is either a negro, a pajeet negro or a woman and the worst is that there is no Q&A, btw this applies to most companies nowadays and it only gets eorse
Go back to india and reddit, rajeesh.
Bait
Is there any hope of things getting better?
Finally, someone old enough to know that some things are eternal.
Microsoft turned me into an itoddler, i'm so used to the smoothness and no nonsense of macos that everytime i used windows10 i have anger attacks.
Fuck off autist zoomer, the old man gets it.
Nice projection.
It's pretty fucking close to be the pinnacle of os design.
>Windows was a unique and functioning OS up until Win8 came out in 2013
w-wait wat? did microsoft really put ads in the start menu?
I thought the pictures of start menu with ads were photoshopped Jow Forums memes?
Define ads
I've been using windows 10 for awhile and never really came across anything that really resembled an ad
If you can't see what's right in front of your face, then an anonymous post on a taiwanese dirt bike enthusiast forum won't help you.
You are delusional if you think windows has ever been stable
The reason why I ask is because when someones says ads I think of the typical adsense internet ads bullshit that doesn't go away without an ad blocker and I don't see that type of shit in the start menu.
The worst thing I've seen was some preinstalled shitware apps that I saw once, got rid of, and never saw again and I think to myself do people really lose there shit over this?
Just as the other user I have never seen anything looking like an ad in Windows 10.
Yes. At some point we'll get 64-bit ReactOS with PowerShell that's able to run a good amount of Windows 7 programs. That plus a nice Windows XP embedded theme would look and feel great. On the flip side we'll have 64-bit Haiku that'll have full multi-user support and the rest of the underlying system exposed so we can take advantage of its capabilities as a modern microkerenel Unix-like system. It'll have a single graphical environment with beautiful widgets and a rich and mature set of developer tools.
This is what I want the future to be like.
this
>that windows 3.11 abomination
aaahhhh, so that's why Microsoft is dead
>screenshot embedded in a word doc
That is an undergrad """""""""""""""grad""""""""""""""""
Someone literally think Microsoft is like turning in homework for a college course
Frankly I'm not mad, this just means I can study in peace and know people are brainlets
Ads as in recommending programs from the store occasionally on the start menu.
Damn this was painful to read.
