so this is what the face of Jow Forums does in his free time.

Western Civilization is over.

How about this:
If you're a man, always say "he". If you're a woman, always say "she". If you're non-binary or whatever, use whatever pronoun you prefer to go by.
This solves all the problems: isn't bureaucratic, isn't sexist (insofar as we don't force women and other persons/thingies to say "he"), takes zero effort, isn't completely artificial like "per", and also handles the edge case of specially weird folks who don't like to be considered a "person" (I mean, if he cares about people who don't like being considered either male or female, then might as well go all the way).

wow i used to think he was cool, i think i like microsofts more conservative, pro-business image better, thats not to say apple isnt a scary nazi company that tries to look left wing like nationalist-socialism, think different as they say i suppose.

If you just used "he" it'd be exactly the same as in finnish or japanese.

I don't give a fuck about that. Gender is a shit movement, there's only two of them: man and woman, male and female. Others are mental illness. So, he and she. Fuck the rest of them off!

the illuminatus! trilogy had the perfect solution decades ago:
thon - a contraction for 'that one' as albeit is for 'although be it'

>There are those who claim that we have an obligation to refer to someone using whatever pronouns person might choose. I disagree with that position, on grounds of principle and grounds of practice. I think we should respect other people's gender identification, but which pronouns we use for any particular gender identification is a separate matter — a matter of grammar. We do not owe it to anyone to change our grammar according to per wishes.
based

based as fuck

"They" was used well before the gender degenerates. The guy is an idiot.

He never said otherwise.

It was fun while it lasted.

>use "he/she" when talking about sane person
>use "it" when the subject is mentally ill ass-jew
Am I doing it right?

Perse is short for persey which is a fucking male name. Stallman, you fucking bigot. Go eat some cheese off your foot.

>Use the elegant gender-neutral pronouns "person", "per" and "pers". They fit into English smoothly. They are easy to remember, since they come from "person", and the last two resemble "her" and "hers". They are natural to use, since they work just like "she", "her" and "hers". "Pers" ends in a voiced consonant, just like "hers".
>This solution is superior, since it does the job while avoiding all the drawbacks of the other solutions. I now use these pronouns some of the time in writing and speech, as illustrated in the rest of this article.
>In using them, I've found that I wished that "person" were quicker to say, so I have coined the shorter alternative "perse", made from "person" by omitting the last syllable. It sounds like "purse", and represents the pronoun "person" but not the noun "person". "Perse" and "person" as pronouns are equivalent and interchangeable.

I like it. Saying he/she when uncertain feels very off.

He explicitly addresses that.
You're an idiot.

The thing I don't understand is why anyone would refer to someone in third person if they are present. And if they're not present they're not there to hear it anyway.
Can someone explain?

He or she when you know the gender
They when it's unknown or a group
Anyone who demands to be called they isn't worth talking to
Wow so fucking hard

Fucking this
100% proof that Twitter bio pronouns are for attention only

wow, that's actually agreeable. stallman is based as always.

I just lost a lot of respect for stallman.

Richard (((Stallman)))

I honestly wouldn't mind using "pers" or "perse" instead of gendered pronouns

Free as in freedom to slice your child's dick off.

It wasn't.

Death... Is only the beginning

His attempt at a CoC was much better as well.
I think anyone who wants to change a system should be as pragmatic as RMS.

wtf i love stallman now

Social justices types would call that sexism tho kek, they'd probably get triggered if you said dude to them when thats basically not a gendered term

Singular "they" is the correct solution though. Stallman is overthinking it because of autism.

>This violates the grammar of English so deeply that it feels terribly wrong.
Only idiots think this. Singular "they" has been in common use since the 1400s. It's always been part of "the grammar of English."

He literally explains this with multiple examples. Singular they is inadequate because it creates confusing circumstances wherein you're not sure if the "they" is singular or plural, or who the "they" refers to. There's no reason not to use superior language if it exists.

This is why I use Microsoft

he lists numerous examples where this doesn't make sense. Languages evolve, what we did in the fucking 1400s doesn't matter at all

It was for your parents.

So what the fuck is the problem, you retards?

By the same logic plural "you" is a problem because nobody can tell if you're addressing a single person or more. This entire debate is retarded/pointless and rms is an idiot.
It's a language standard, if you don't like it then don't use English. There are plenty of languages which don't have the major flaws of English and they can all be easily adjusted for this newspeak bullshit.

I agree with your conclusion that RMS is an idiot about these things but he does address this.

>The adoption of singular "you" in the 17th century appears to have been a bad change for a similar reason. It eliminated an distinction whose importance is demonstrated by subsequent invention of new ways to make the distinction, such as "y'all."

Haha I do this too and people always find it amuzing.

And to think Western Civilization wasnt even brought down by a tweet or a youtube video, but by an old-school blog post..

Japanese have the brilliant solution in their inimitable timid ways of skipping pronouns altogether whenever feasible

If you erase the words describing concepts you can erase concepts themselves.

>Which reminds me, I once joined a few acquaintances for a ride on the pleasure boat one of them owned. He pointed at another boat and told us it was a yawl. I waved and said, "Hi, yawl!"
kek

Are you asking us to read it for you?
Toddler.

>"they" has been used extensively in the past for the times you don't know the gender of a person
>"It VIOLATES the grammar of English so DEEPLY that it feels terribly WRONG"
keep defending and feeding this uncultured swine, Jow Forumsturds
>"b-but he addresses it in the end!!!"
First he says that it's GRAMMARLY wrong, then he just shrugs it off with the silly excuse "it's the least bad because I say so"
Truly the GNU+Linux intellectual powerhouse whe have here lads

>No gender neutral singular pronoun

The absolute state of English

Resurrected you mean. Real western civilization died when Christianity took over and persuaded everyone that having sex is bad and having ambitions will send you to hell. That's why the Western Roman Empire was annihilated, and the Eastern Roman Empire entered a state of perpetual decline. Now that more and more people realize that religion is just a stupid meme, the REAL western civilization, is starting to resurrect.

So what piece of music during the period of 'real' Western civilization comes anywhere near fake Western Bach's mass in b minor

> attack Christianity
> religion is just a stupid meme
kys

why do sjws or really anyone with morals obsess over trivialities like this? language triggers them but not starving africans at least not enough they will give up their charmed first world life to help them.
they are all just virtue signaling.

The entire gender movement thing is the result of people who assume that everything is oppressive then set out to make force everyone to adjust to their right think about it. To those who are new to this phenomena the reaction is fine I'll find a way to be gender neutral and they'll shut up.

The problem goes back to this entire movement is based on the assumption that everything is oppressive. By design there's nothing that you can do to make these people happy. Stallman sets out to list all approaches to this situation, but what he has really done is give a history of people giving way to their bullshit and not getting anything in return.

You start out with he. Then they decided "hey that's sexist." Then English speakers said "That's just a singular pronoun. It's implied that a the sentence 'If he sees that his shoe is untied, he should tie it.' also applies to females." So they started using she instead of he in what they right in a "NOW DO YOU SEE HOW THIS FEELS? LOOK AT HOW OPPRESSED YOU ARE!" Normal people just shrugged and said whatever dude. You do you.

Of course this pissed them off worse. So out of spite they started making the English language even more cumbersome to use. They started introducing he or she in the place of he. Normal people started saying he/she or (s)he to reduce the burden.

So once everyone had adapted to using sex neutral language they made up gender theory to make this oppressive. In order to make everything extra convoluted they named some of the genders male and female so that they are easily confused with the male and female sexes. So now using the wrong pronoun is transphobic misgendering despite the fact that he or she had always been chosen for a person based on an assumption about what kind of reproductive organs were in a person's pants.

>Gul Stallman did nothing wrong

Attached: 1401537360544.jpg (400x397, 24K)

How about using "he" was never fucking sexist to begin with? It was just grammatically correct. The people who claim it was sexist are actually just fucking historically wrong? How about that one you fuck?

HOW ABOUT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING SEXIST AT ALL? FUCK WOMEN ARE DUMB AS SHIT.

I like the singular they though.
It's the most "silent", since almost no one notices its use except total spazzes.

Attached: chess0.png (800x675, 1.13M)

continued

That just made getting it wrong oppressive. That didn't enshrine what a special snowflake they are in the English language. So they added genders that don't have any basis in reality to gender theory so he/she could no longer cover anything. In fact you could no longer add pronouns to the English language to cover it because now gender is an infinite set.

Stallman suggests that we should just invent one more word that is just a sexless singular pronoun and some other words that denote ownership or whatever. The problem is that this doesn't make these people shut up, which was the original goal. Despite all of this pandering to these mentally ill people, they still accused Stallman of being transphobic during the whole Libreboot nonsense. They still accused Stallman of being the embodiment of toxic masculinity. The Libreboot incident really drives home that there's nothing you can do to pacify these people in to shutting up. No matter what you do there's nothing that will make them happy.

So what do we do? We break the cycle of miscommunication in this relationship between normal people and self-mutilating freaks by being direct about our wishes. When someone says you've misgendered them explain to them how English pronouns refer to sex not some gender theory that was invented after the words he and she. In the case where it's referring to someone who could be another sex that you assume your audience has the intelligence of a 4 year old and can figure out that he could refer to someone of both sexes.

Then most importantly say, "Shut the fuck up." The goal since day one in pandering to these people has been to get them to shut the fuck up. Doing what they asked hasn't achieved the goal. Beating around the bush hasn't achieved the goal. It's time to be clear. "Shut the fuck up."

Despacito.

I like your posts.
Yeah I notice it and point it out to people sometimes because "singular they" is just "he." You can use "he."

SHUT IT DOWN

>Jow Forums never considered that stallman might be a neo-hippie
