it's a depressing reflection of real life. 99% of players are desktop normalfags with 50 friends and have no problem making new ones. I struggle to make even one friend and sustain any kind of contact.

I have over 5 hours in vrchat just from opening the game finding a room, trying to work up the nerve to talk and when somebody addresses me quite the game with a racing heart.

I have both and the Vive is best for bigger spaces and active games.
The rift is good for small rooms and casual play.
But you NEED vrcovers because the foam is shit on both.

The ONLY thing Vive has is it can do larger play spaces, and setting up the sensors is easier. Rift maxes out at 3.5x3.5m iirc, so unless you need a space larger than that, the Vive has too many downsides. The support is the biggest one. Go read the Jow Forumsvive posts about it, it's horrific.

While I agree with you, you could just do what I do, and only buy games on SteamVR unless they're exclusives. That way I'm not locked in if a better headset comes along in the future.

rin is pretty much the best place if you can't find a torrent. VR games are harder to pirate in general simply because of the smaller user-base.

Oculus has its own store, Oculus Home, and its own proprietary VR SDK, whereas Steam uses an open SDK. The latter point really only matters for devs. The former point only matters if you buy games on Oculus Home, since if you get a non-Oculus headset in the future, you won't be able to play the games. Thankfully, SteamVR games work just fine on the Rift, even if they don't target the Oculus SDK, so just buy whatever games you can on Steam, and stick to the Oculus store for exclusives.
There's no DRM when it comes to playing pirated games or playing videos.

hmm, the vive doesnt do this? that's definitely a big plus for the Oculus then. Do i always need to have the trackers set up too or can i just plug in the headset and use it to watch videos by itself?

No the Vive just gets a grey screen. You can use your rift without sensors and you can even play some games that don't require controllers.
