Pretty much because its made by Microsoft. Everyone on Jow Forums thinks hating it is cool. It the hipster equivalent of pretending to love anime and unironically thinking Arch is a great distro.

I work for an MSP and we try to steer customers clear of the Surface. They have all sorts of issues, especially with their screens. They are a sub-quality product, and I'm a MS fan. We try to steer them towards the Precision or XPS if possible.

Doesn't the Surface 3 and SP3 have the Windows logo on the side?

Bought an SP3 i5 for uni last year at $400 AUD in almost new physical condition and it wasn't so bad, performance was solid for a 3 year old laptop. Killer was the battery life, lasted maybe 3 hours at best with the MS suite and a browser and took another 3-4 to charge so I sold it off. That was with around 85% battery capacity too. If it wasn't for that, it would have been great compared to everything else you can get for that price especially in terms of screen and build quality.

maybe if it wasn't so expensive or wasn't a tablet

Any newer Surface really, I'd skip the 3 and go for the 4 at least since I heard the battery life was improved on that. If you want to spend the big bucks, just go for the latest one.
Thinkpad x1 tablets are also solid.

They're an abomination. Beside being macbook-priced, they break down all the time in both hardware and, perhaps most surprisingly, software. That is, with every windows 10 update, there's a random chance that some part of it stops working correctly, from the scaling to the touchpad settings to the touch screen, and more.
Surfaces are a joke.
