Why does Windows 10's installer still have the old Vista era Aero?

Who knows, the Windows UI is a complete clusterfuck at this point, if you ever actually go digging through the Win10 assets you'll see legacy shit all over the place. A lot of aero resources and icons as well, as they simply left them in their .dlls and replaced whatever they needed with their Win10 tosh.

because they just slapped the new flat shit on top of the old aero shit
brb taking a shit

Because windows 7 is peak

It just works.

Why does macOS need MSDOS to boot?

Because it's 500 years of updates and bloat piled together... Who knows how the fucking thing works, not even Microsoft do. Said they would have to edit 10,000 lines of code just to add to the drop down menu when you right click.

Somewhere underneath the many svchost.exe and .NET Redistributables is a very tired Dave Cutler shuffling pages around.

The EFI system partition is always FAT32. It's part of the standard.

It works. There's so much undocumented legacy code underneath they don't bother touching parts that don't really need it.

Imagine being so stupid you think that mount is unique to *BSD.

Is someone not going to buy Win 10 because of this? Nope. So they don't care.

Actually yes, normies see it and cringe.
ChromeOS can be 'reset' to factory defaults in

Normies don’t buy Windows 10 or any OS for that matter. They get whatever’s out of the box.

It's tradition for the new OS's installer to run on the previous OS. Windows 95's installer ran on Windows 3.1.

who even pays attention to this kind of stuff just press yes until its installed

Windows 98 setup had 3.1 aesthetic too.

Bless his litt heart

msdos disk label is also not required. don't Macs use GPT per default anyway?

You're on Jow Forums, m8. Autist central.

the same reason as for picrelated

>still spamming the intern story who's afraid of more than 10k lines of code
so THIS is the power of webdev faggots

The whole development force is like that

Because it was developed by copy-pasting street shitters?

They boot with efi, you're almost never required to mount that partition though

Because it's beautiful.

No, they don't. Well over 99% of Windows users never see the install program - that's what "preinstalled" means, you stupendous fucking moron.

But why W3.0 had W3.0 installer?

And WXP was using XP

>dropdown
Ask me how I know these raging faggots have never done one nanosecond of Windows development in their pitiful lives.

Reading comprehension?

ITT: registered morons who don't know the Windows Setup program is basically owner-drawn, and has nothing to do with what version of Windows PE is running underneath it.

> WXP was using XP
XP was using 2000's/NT installer. Because your PE image doesn't need all of these bells and whistles, the less its size, the better.

Uh, what?

Actually, it WAS the XP kernel, even in the early (text-mode) stages. This whole thread - like most Jow Forums threads - is a total wash because they don't understand .

this is bullshit
Vista kernel version is 6.0, 7 is 6.1, 8 is 6.2, 8.1 is 6.3 while 10 is "10.0".

XP/2000 share an almost identical kernel so it's pretty much irrelevant.

>XP/2000 share an almost identical kernel so it's pretty much irrelevant
This is why all those drivers for XP work fine on 2000. Oh wait...

Yeah?

Anybody who knows anything about Windows can tell you that the post you references is absolute bullshit in every conceivable way. It's a Jow Forums-grade freetard shitpost, with a meta image - nothing more.

Really now?

Every time, without fail.

Actually my post was asking for clarification. Could you please provide some?

Well duh - like most people on Jow Forums, they know nothing about Windows. Hell, they don't even know anything about Linux, but at least that feeds their contrarianism (not to mention runs OK on their hand-me-down bentium 3).

It's been hammered at already by the responses, user.
TL;DR: whoever wrote this had no fucking idea what they were talking about, and just jammed together bits of stories they could remember together, and posted it - this is why the numbers, nomenclature, etc. is all off.

dude... Windows 10 has menus and shit in it from Windows 98 for fuck's sake. Go digging around it's still fucking in there.

Hell, until Windows 8, the original Windows 3.0 font installer dialog was there IIRC.
Character Map hasn't changed much since NT 4.0.

>whoever wrote this had no fucking idea what they were talking about
Like?

Just for starters:
>calling comboboxes "dropdowns" - nobody who's coded for windows more than one day does that
>actually having no idea what the output of the...
Oh fuck, what's it called... it's been years since I did any COM programming...
>anyway,

>calling comboboxes "dropdowns" - nobody who's coded for windows more than one day does that

This
A 10yo with google could make this pasta plausible

But we don't, because it's literally a WC_COMBOBOX in your CreateWindow call. If you've never written Win32, just say so - don't embarrass yourself further by pulling shit out of your ass that you have no idea about.

But that person there wasn't writing in Win32
