I'm going to be honest because I'm a bit ashamed. I have spent the last at least three, maybe four, days just browing amazon endlessly looking at speakers.
Seems like vanatoo transparent 0's, some dsp solution, and a measurement mic are the way to go. It's crazy when my $25 speakers shit on my headphones in some ways.
Then on the other hand you get people saying you need to spend $20k on speakers and room treatment to beat a $1.7k sr007(both using dsp i assume).

That's because saying speakers beat headphones or vice versa is completely retarded. It's like saying a F1 racecar beats a pickup truck - it just makes no sense.

Most people here shitpost against STAX or Senns but those headphones are actually high quality headphones. ZMF on the other hand is straight up shit that measures like garbage.

I'm using midend motherboard stock audio out and, while not unhappy with audio quality, I am bothered by some line noise in some games (both directly from line out and over displayport) and having to cumbersomely reach behind my powered speakers to adjust their volume knobs (to keep good volume slider resolution when switching between media of different volumes, ie movies and tv using higher dynamic range that are practically fucking silent otherwise).

The question: Should I bother with a dac/amp of higher quality (lol stack) for the JBL LSR305s and Brainwavz HM5 I'm using or just get a decent cheap dac/amp combo? What might that be, given that I'd like it to be able to switch between two outputs - headphone and speaker? I know there are standalone switches but theyre all like $40 despite just being a dpdt switch with three jacks soldered on and I don't particularly want to risk making one myself.

I am finally stuck with a phone with no headphone jack after avoiding it for years. How screwed am I? Is this a legitimately good thing now and I am a retarded young boomer?
