/wt/ Watch General

This is the /wt/ Watch Thread where users come to converse about their love of the technoology that goes into horology and all it's associated facets.

gonna order them tomorrow from ebay or are there any other places that have genuine versions?

longislandwatch

they don't even ship to eu let alone worldwide

They ship to Australia; I'd be amazed if they didn't ship to the EU.

A158 is better.

>digital
YIKES

is that way

Thanks for the irrelevant post, is that way

Please take us back. I can't fucking stand /fa/.

watches have hundred times more technology than your circlejerking trap filled battlestation threads, e-celeb threads, and all the shitposting threads
Fuck you retards who cried about /wt/ on Jow Forums and fuck jannies who listened

The most onions of watches.
>lel le quirky hipster 5 dollar watch

You understand it's the the epitome of reddit?

Why are you so obsessed with Reddit?

Non-digital watches (especially mechanical shit) are obsolete technology and should only be used as jewelry. Prove me wrong.

Sorry senpai. According to mods and jannies, watches aren't technology, but traps and programming socks are.

I get why you might think that but its honestly just a nice, simple design.

I'm a watch guy, but almost every watch thread on /fa/ is filled with people yapping about aesthetics and build quality of watches and literally nothing about movements or the tech in the watches
No one talks about newer g-shocks having bluetooth or all the shit you can do with the sensors on one, but they'll talk about how much more patrician a $10 Casio is than a Rolex.

>obsolete technology
>will outlive you
You're obsolete, it's a marvel of engineering

The automatic/mechanical analog timepiece is unironically less obselete than the decade old thinkpads this board jerks its cummies to.

That's the problem with /wt/ being on /fa/ exclusively, back in the day we had Jow Forums to discuss the technology of watches plus some aesthetics(completely fine, as tards here jerk their meat on how aesthetic GPUs are), while on /fa/ they had their /fa/ggotry that none of us care one bit, and both threads were happy with what they had

Anyone know how well casio's solar tech would work for someone who works nights? Can it charge off of LED shop lights?
Also does anyone have any expereince with the multiband radio tech they put in these? From what I've seen they're harder to find depending on where you are, and sometimes you just outright can't connect to one.

Attached: gmw-b5000.jpg (2805x2805, 880K)

IDK but I personally wouldn't buy either feature
Solar: pointless when a coin cell lasts years
Radio: pointless when quartz accuracy is +/- 15s per month

True. Though you can't get many of the higher end gshocks without their meme tech thrown in to raise the price.

I'm glad you faggots have been relegated to /fa/

At least the retrocomputing fags don't have their heads stuck up their ass like you

That's not even comparable. Mechanical watches are fine, even today. Retro computers on the other hand are abysmal compared to their modern counterparts.

>less accurate
>less resistance to shock
Your can say "it's good enough", but the only reason to like it is the jewelry/steampunk aspect of it. That's why you belong in /fa/ and not here.
>b-but you don't need those things
And you don't need to pay thousands to stare at gears.

>Your can say "it's good enough", but the only reason to like it is the jewelry/steampunk aspect of it.
I'm a mechanical engineering student. I like it for the intricate machine on my wrist aspect, not some gay Internet trend.
>And you don't need to pay thousands to stare at gears.
Correct, my Vostok wasn't even a tenth of that.
Bottom line is watches are technology and /fa/'s a steaming pile of shit. If you don't like it you can simply add "wt" to your filter and never see these threads again.

BUY A PHACKIN ROOOLLLEEEEEXXXX YA PHACKIN SHITTA!!!!

Attached: mqdefault.jpg (320x180, 12K)

It looks bad on adult male wrist, it's too small.

G-Shock 5600 is the real classic which numales think the F91W is.

Attached: P1070875.jpg (819x544, 142K)

Oh look, your watch been beaten by a Casio at half the price.

No thanks

Nice Rolex.

cute wrists user

Anyone alive in here? So I got my 1st automatic and I have a question regarding static electricity from clothing - would it somehow damage or affect the movement?

No chance in hell a movement would take damage from that.

Attached: xd.png (1728x1254, 3.53M)

Citizen solar watches charge off of any light source. That's how photovoltaic cells work. So if Casio uses a photovoltaic cell, then yes.

some memers on rolex forums said that watch can stop dead or start behaving erratically (temporary)
dunno, it's a seiko on a SS bracelet so I'm still not fully convinced though it is rated to withstand some magnetic fields but not closer than 5cm.

From what I understand it only affects quartz and digital watches and only if cell or display is getting zapped directly.

Personally not a fan of chunky watches and I have pretty big wrists. Feels like some sort of overcompensation.

Can't get them in Europe for a reasonable price. I'd rather spend more on a used Citizen or Seiko.

Tfw no meteorite bronze zelos hammerhead

That +/- 15s per month could be a big deal if you're living in, or visiting, a country with good timely public transport.

...so you can't be on the bus stop a minute earlier? you always time it to 10 seconds? lol?

>google image search that watch
what are you, a steampunk drug lord?

Glad that /wt/ came back.
It belongs on Jow Forums.

So did Zenith put their new movement finally in a watch that's not totally ugly?

SRP775 is the best Turtle.
The subtle gold accents compliment the 1970s cushion case and the text filled prospex dial is also less busy in darker colors.

I am glad you agree. It looks great on it's hefty stock bracelet which I wear more often nowadays, or any NATO/Zulu

It really does. I had no idea why I kept not seeing it in the catalogue so I took matters into my own hands. Does anyone have the original copypasta for the OP /wt/ post?

What?
Meteorite is a cool material and bronze patinas really well

We still use it for every OP over at /fa/

Never gonna happen

Nice, I got mine a week ago in silver on a bracelet.

>tfw wristlet
>tfw i can only wear straps and small/vintage watches
>tfw my sister's wrists are bigger than mine

wew, lads, just wew.

How small?

a little over 5 inches

Attached: 1542282918713.jpg (311x362, 30K)

Why the fuck am I seeing this thread? I thought you faggots got (rightfully) permanently exiled to the /fa/ggot board to talk about your electronic bracelets there.

Attached: disgusted_chaos.png (500x500, 256K)

Best beater watch imo. Low price that you don't have to feel sorry if you scratch or break it.
It's small, functional and not in the way when working.

apocalypse now made me buy it

>(((swiss)))
ayy

>back in the day we had Jow Forums to discuss the technology of watches
This is a lie and you fucking know it.

Not really, I learned a ton about watches in /wt/. Tourbillons, spring drive, jewels being used as bearings, increasing a watch's water resistance, etc.

GMT Moon phase recommendations for like 5000?

>buy a Rolex for $7500
>get a single compliment from a girl in half a year
>buy a pair of shoes discounted for $70
>get at least two compliments on it whenever I go out wearing it

Fuck me, I should've bought 100 pairs of shoes instead.

>buying a watch so people will talk to you

Attached: 1487870442959.png (600x558, 379K)

SELL IT
then buy your favorite quartz watch under $200-300 and invest the rest

You would be an immediately more interesting person if instead of owning one rolex you're known for owning all sorts of cool and cooky shoes

Put it in the window that faces the Sun's path the best. They don't take much light to work. I've had my solar G-Shock about a decade, without any problems.

>bluetooth

Why???

It's not
It checks the time signal daily from one of the (5?) atomic clock transmitting stations around the world

Attached: 1546962648287.jpg (1024x576, 52K)

thinking about buying pic related.

I have the Casio calculator watch, the regular one. I only wear that shit in Tokyo for a conversation piece and fashion points. No need for a watch anywhere else, there are clocks everywhere, my cell has a clock, and I have a reliable internal clock that's only ever 5 minutes off at most when telling time.

>coworker unironically got an invicta

Attached: 1499392546348.png (728x720, 719K)

I need a 'watch' that has a vibrating alarm to wake me up and doesn't look like some gay shit. Preferably under $50. Considering the Mi Band 2 by xiaomi but looks weird

get the fuck off of my board

even the name is cringy

Even though I have quite a few watches, all of which I love equally, the Explorer is proving to be the best all around watch.

It's my office watch, weekend watch, outdoors/hunting watch. Performs to factory specs in every condition I have submitted it to. This includes this -20 degrees nonsense we've had to deal with lately.

The Swiss got it right with this watch.

I mean, I like how thin it is...and that's about it...

Go drink some bleach, shit for brains.

Also, the 3231 movement is incredible. Rolex must have performed some magic to come up with this design.

It's accurate as hell, rugged/tough, extremely serviceable, highly magnetic resistant, and so thin.

Attached: 3130.jpg (1024x835, 157K)

thats a nice EDC senpai

nice watch

You sound like one of those wine advocates that pretend to know everything just to impress people on the internet.

Yes, Christopher Ward watches are underrated.

I saw a dream last night.
In it, there was a peculiar man with a sizeable figure.
He told me the mysteries of watch making and life. Especially those related to certain red lines on Seiko Solar watches and having threesomes with girls 20 years younger than him.
This man was a mystery himself, where is he now?
