Want help? >State the budget & CURRENCY >Post at least some attempt at a parts list >List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photo editing, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on some MSI mobos) >R3 2200G - Recommended minimum gaming >R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs >i7-9700k/8700k - Extreme setup with RTX 2080/Ti | If you can't afford to spend 350 dollar on a CPU go with AMD. >R7 2700/X - Best value high-end CPU on a non-HEDT platform >Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT
RAM: >Always choose at least a two stick kit; 2x 8GB is recommended >CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000CL15 or 3400CL16 is ideal >All AMD chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
Graphics cards based on current pricing: >Used cards can be had for a steal; inquire about warranty 1080p >GTX 1060, RX 570, RX 580 are standard choices for older, less demanding or very well optimized titles >RTX 2060 thanks to 6gb vram only good for 1080p or as a short-term solution; consider 1070/Ti or Vega56 ONLY if on sale 1440p >RTX 2070; consider 1070/Ti or Vega 56 ONLY if on sale >RTX 2080 if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match 2160p (4K) >RTX 2080 is the standard choice but Vega7 launch is soon so better wait >RTX 2080Ti is better for 4K but expensive
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING >A 256GB or larger SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor >Bottleneck checkers are worthless >rentry.co/pcbg-more
Building a cheap always-on low-power file storage server. The machine will run headless most of the time and configuration will be done via ssh. SSD for the OS, and 3 HDs for the storage in RAID 5 configuration. Budget is hopefully under $450. Is this a good build or it could be optimized? Which part should be swapped to trim the price a bit more? Are the CPU and MOBO a bit overpowered, since i need it only for file storage and probably a torrent box? My design decisions are low power and cheap.
Kevin Collins
Is this normal for a 2060 bros? The fan is loud as fuck
Not normal for any GPU unless you're doing it on purpose. 71% fan speed or 41? I don't remember in which order they go. Perhaps poor thermal paste application, or shit airflow considering your CPU isn't exactly cold either.
Josiah Phillips
In that case what kind of fans should I get for my case user?
Alexander Parker
You haven't said what kind of case or CPU cooler you have, you haven't checked if the thermal paste application was any good either. Come back later instead of throwing blindly money at the problem.
Connor Morgan
stock cpu cooler for ryzen 2600, and Thermaltake Versa H17 for case. I only have one fan, the one the case came with and that's probably why the case is so damn hot with my 2060 inside it.
Evan Ward
imagine buying novideo garbage lmao
Landon King
Change the stock CPU cooler for anything a bit better will lower your temps if you notice that the CPU throttles (which it shouldn't in stock operation anyway). I'd pick up two front intake fans. Depends how much you want to spend on them.
Logan Carter
So here's what my case supports. Question about the fans. Which ones should be intake and which ones should be exhaust? Also is there a brand you reccomend
for cpu I was planning on future proofing it for a mini itx build that I have in mind, should I get watercooling now or later?
>Which ones should be intake and which ones should be exhaust? Two intake 120mm fans in the front on the top two slots, one in the back for exhaust.
>Also is there a brand you reccomend? Noctua, BeQuiet!, Cooler Master... It's more a question of budget really.
>future proofing Is a meme. The 2600 does well on air. But then if you wanted to watercool your system, you would put a 240mm radiator in the front and wouldn't use extra fans anyway.
Aaron Lopez
I thought fans were for the rest of the system and not the cpu which has it's own cooling
Matthew Mitchell
I don't understand what you're saying. Look at your diagram. If you put a water-cooled 240mm radiator in your case, it can go only in one place: the front. Where the fuck will you put more intake fans? Either you water-cool your system (which I find silly for a 2600) and you buy zero intake fans, or you keep your stick cooler, in which case you buy two front intake fans.
Lincoln Myers
So for literally what games would anyone buy a 1080-2080ti?
Nathan Mitchell
Lara's butt in 4K.

If I want to buy a card for 1440p that I won't upgrade for 3-4 years, is a 2080 a decent call? Raytracing is a meme now sure but it will be the norm soon enough.
Carter Howard
>Raytracing is a meme now sure but it will be the norm soon enough Not on that hardware, no. Perhaps in a handful of generations, but certainly not on current RTX GPUs. Unless you're in a hurry, I'd wait early-mid February for Radeon VII benchmarks, then pick the better card of the two.
Sebastian Wilson
Ray Tracing, the actual technology, is the future but it's nowhere near ready for prime time. Maybe in 10 years, or 5 if enough devs really get into it and push, it will be where AA was in 2004 and today it's impossible to think of a game without. At least at 1080p, 1440p doesn't really need AA and 2160p absolutely doesn't need it.

Is Vega 56 really a better option than the 2060 for 1440p?
Jace Jackson
I'd say it's a wash. A bit less powerful than the 2060 but with more VRAM. It's starting to see sales, but it's not usually consistently cheaper. Check your local prices and see what makes more sense.
Adrian Rivera
Need a new 144hz monitor to click heads better. I've ended up into these two because of availability and amount of reviews on them, but can't decide.
Viewsonic XG2401 for 229€ or BenQ XL2411P for 219€
>FPS gayming >Nvidia GTX970, but going to upgrade. Still Nvidia though.
Well the Vega 56 is a lot cheaper where I am. Price difference is at least 60€
Luke Wright
Even cheaper than the Founders 2060? I suppose you're not talking about blower models or the Gigabyte OC, both of which kinda suck for Vega 56. If it's a quality model, then fair enough. >youtube.com/watch?v=pfnzHA3-MhM

FE is just not in stock right now and I think it will never be.

I brought my first real (new, above $50) monitor about two months ago and while it isnt blatantly faulty, its got some issues which make me feel that it is.
1: It wont swap from DisplayPort to HDMI, i have to actually unplug the DisplayPort to get it to automatically swap to the HDMI. After plugging the DP back in, it can swap back from the HDMI without an issue 2: It has the chance to just flat out shut down while im in the middle of something, im not sure if its internal or the power cable they sent to me but i feel like as soon as i try another one its either not going to do it or they're going to bitch at me if it does and i say i tried that when troubleshooting. All i know is its not the powerboard because everything else doesnt have the issue.
Should i try and get a replacement? I dont really want to be out of a monitor for an extended amount of time.
Elijah Barnes
>meshify c >120mm and 140mm intake front >120mm exhaust back i have a 2nd 140mm. should i mount it at the top to suck the hot air off the cpu cooler and blow it out the top?
Bentley James
Tough. But as shown the video, VRAM isn't an issue right now, and if it becomes an issue in the FUTURE™, you can (and most likely, will) lower quality settings because regardless of RAM, the GPU won't be keeping up anyway. But I personally simply dislike the notion of "future-proofing".
Try another cable of course, but I'd just RMA it. Not worth it to stay with a faulty product. I hope the air isn't too polluted outside since you're going to breathing a lot more of it... unless your local shop does handle cross-shipping.
Wyatt Baker
>It has the chance to just flat out shut down Absolutely do get it replaced, that should not be happening. Remember if you're in the EU, you must not have any expenses replacing faulty items within your 2-year return period. They have to pay for shipping that heavy thing.
Brayden Martin
Where do you guys buy your pc fans at?
Angel Brooks
I'd probably would want slightly positive and stick the two 140mm in the front and the two 120mm fans for exhaust.

>1440p >RTX 2070; consider 1070/Ti or Vega 56 ONLY if on sale
What kind of retard recommends a 1070 for 1440p and not a 2060?
Ian Cooper
6GB VRAM bogeyman.
Oliver Long
I fucking hate people like you. Seriously. You write a shit post with stupid information, says that a "rx 480 can push 144hz xDDDD" and think that's implied that you meant competitive games - even though there isn't a single mention, then you say that modern CPUs can't push 144 fps and that buying high refresh rates monitor are not for playing with high refresh rates. Last but not least, recommending THE BEST card AT THIS PRICE POINT in the market at this god damn moment is not shilling, it's called being honest. It doesn't fucking matter that it's overpriced. We can't go fucking back in time you nigger, if you care about this shit so much then don't fucking buy you retard. As a last fuck you, here's my own Vega, you fucking nigger.
My budget goes up to 1700 pounds. I want to use this thing for Gaming, video editing and streaming. Gaming mouse and keyboard are not necessary. I'm also not interested in RGB's.
I'm also NOT the only human being that dislikes music. Please let me know if I should add a sound card to this in order to get the good out of a pair of sennheisers or headsets.
So is it true I don't need high frequency ram for new ryzens? Is that for ryzen 3 only? When are new mobos out?
Henry Barnes
Dual-channel offers the best performance, single and triple the worst. Quad isn't as bad as single and triple, but still less optimal than dual.
Landon Thomas
Also, before you start, YES this is a shitty list. I haven't got the time to fully inform myself or dive down into optimization. I used to, then i migrated twice and got a job with stupid hours. So I apologize in advance for my ineptitude.
Isaac Cook
Dumb question,but can you SLI a RTX 2080 with a 1070?
Sebastian Clark
>Also, before you start, YES this is a shitty list Doesn't mean we shouldn't tell you why it's shitty so that you can adjust.
>Cooling a 9900K with a 212 Evo Not happening. >9900K+2070 with a 75Hz display Completely overkill. Get a higher refresh rate monitor or drop the 9900K. >Paying 90+ for Windows No. >Blu-ray >PC No. >Please let me know if I should add a sound card to this >Hates music No. Use on-board audio.
Daniel Martin
I'm sorry, but could you elaborate a bit more? I searched a bit about dual and quad channels, and it seems that the advantage just isn't visible depending on what you are doing. Since I plan to use the pc for work, which usually requires some rendering, I imagine that the advantage would be considerable. Also, it seems I would need hardware that can run quad channel, are they not common?
Adrian White
>Since I plan to use the pc for work AND THAT'S WHY YOU ALWAYS MENTION THE USE FIRST. >which usually requires some rendering, I imagine that the advantage would be considerable It's more that if you need and want to have colossal amounts of RAM, you have little choice but to go with quad-channel. >Also, it seems I would need hardware that can run quad channel, are they not common? Requires a more expensive and capable board usually, but you're doing this for work: it's an investment. And if you're rendering, you're more likely looking into pro-sumer stuff like Threadripper or Xeon, which usually come with boards that cost an arm and a leg and are capable of running quad-channel properly most of the time. Or at least, I'm not aware of a board for either platform at those price points that plain suck at handling quad-channel; especially since memory speed isn't as critical in rendering.
Thank you for your input kind sir. >Cooling a 9900K with a 212 Evo what should I do about this? bigger/faster fan? >9900K+2070 with a 75Hz display What would be a good refresh rate for this? 144? I'm adamant about spending on the 9900K and 2070 >Paying 90+ for Windows As I said, I claim ignorance. I've only been making money for 6 months, spent the last ten years in a (soon to be broken) dictatorship. I've fallen behind on my knowledge. Should I get it cheaper/free somehow? >Blu Ray accepted. I too thought this was dumb of me
Also, I do NOT hate music. Tried to be clever, didnt quite hit it. I am an entry level audiophile.
Ian Allen
Ok, so i called amazon customer service and told them that i already received the ram. I did a little bit of research and found a couple cases of amazon billing them again for duplicate delivery and i don't need 32gb of ram or want the 154 euros back. Well, i would take the money but it's not worth the risk..
Ayden Young
>AND THAT'S WHY YOU ALWAYS MENTION THE USE FIRST. I'm sorry, the last time I had to build a pc was over 10 years ago. Basically what I need is a pc that can run Unreal Engine reasonably well. And if possible, also enough for VR sets, like Oculus Rift. At the lab where I work, I have access to a pc with i7-7700, 32gb RAM, gtx 1050 ti, with 2 1080p monitors. Although it is enough for what I do, I wouldn't mind spending a little extra to get something better at home. With at least 3 monitors(since unreal Engine uses 2 of them). I was asking about ram because at the unreal wiki, they recommend something from 16~32gb and SSD.
Adam Peterson
(Me) >In case more details are needed Pic related. Anyway, if you're mainly using it for work and for rendering non-Adobe applications, I'd consider upping the budget and targeting a 2700/2700X instead.
>bigger/faster fan? Or even a radiator. It's an housefire of a CPU. >What would be a good refresh rate for this? 144? Yeah, 144Hz at either 1080p or 1440p. >Should I get it cheaper/free somehow? Yeah, around £5-15 pounds. >I too thought this was dumb of me It's just that Blu-ray is so poorly supported on PC, with so many obligations that you're either better off going fully digital and/or buy a separate Blu-Ray TV Player
>Also, I do NOT hate music. Tried to be clever, didnt quite hit it. I am an entry level audiophile Well unless you already have good headphones and hardware, and have interference and/or other issues, you don't really need more than the onboard audio. Depends of your equipment.
Also, I've had this Wi-Fi card. If you don't have optical fibre, it's kinda wasted. If the router is further than two rooms away, it's not powerful enough since you'll want that 5GHz band to maximise your speed,a and 5GHz has a shorter range than 2.4GHz. I eventually returned it.
Anyway, as a baseline I'd do this. I upped the PSU: while 850W is overkill, no board manufacturer actually respects Intel's TDP, and there's little difference in price between 750W and 850W supplies. Upped the SSD size as well, swapped the cooler, mobo and RAM. >uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/H6WJQZ
> I'd consider upping the budget and targeting a 2700/2700X instead. Thanks for the tip, desu, I wouldn't mind upping the budget a bit. I will try to see what I can do with partpicker then.

Windows just fucked me is there any way to get around this
I reset my PC with Windows and did a fresh install, since Microsoft is fucking shit it fucked up now it is showing me when the PC loads up a "other user" and a user and password to put in which I don't have or a Microsoft account user and password which clearly doesn't work for the one I have. I contacted Microsoft who basically said fuck you bitch, you have to go buy a sub find another PC with Windows and go through this long as process just to use my own PC. Do I have any options to use my own PC version tonight?
Joseph Peterson
So it looks like the adapter can only deliver 5v instead of 12. Which fans are fine running at 50% speed, the 2 140 intake or the 2 120 exhausts?

the menu for some reason actually utilizes the GPU 100%, even if you cap the framerate. I literally think they are mining crypto on their fucking game, there is no other explanation, why the MENU loads up the GPU to 100% when playing in the game, on the same video settings doesn't even load it up to 100% so consistently. The devs are LITERAL HACKS!
Jaxon Foster
It's a 4gb. Wait then? Or not bother with 4gb cards?

Xavier Moore
Yeah and? Vega 56 is probably overpriced. I doubt you're getting the 2060 for under 300 first world units of currency so it's not that good of a deal.
Owen Sanchez
Is an ADATA XPG SX 6000 Pro a decent budget m.2 SSD? The 250gb version is big enough for me. I'll only use it for Windows, some VM work and maybe Firefox or Libreoffice.
