I've been trying to get Manjaro working in a VM for a couple days now to no avail.
Keyboard won't work in Virtualbox using livecd, and then freezes system.
In Hyper-V it won't see any of my graphics cards so x won't load.
Guess I need to find a laptop to load it on to play with instead.

Maybe Arch/Manjaro is too complicated for me and I should go back to ubuntu.

>>be me, archfag

>>everything just werks

I installed Arch + KDE yesterday

Attached: screenshot.png (1920x1080, 880K)

just install proper arch on your pc
it's not difficult, watch luke smith's tutorial

Lol no, how can Manjaro be too complicated? It's literally a graphical install.
Wipe one of your drives and install Manjaro on it. Manjaro is 2x better than Ubuntu and I haven't even used Ubuntu.

Real chads just use a de and get shit done, if you care that your de takes up 400mb of ram you’re literally a big faggot and you should just end it all now.

openSUSE Tumbleweed user here.
How would you convince me to switch?

slackware user using i3, shill me on arch or i will undoubtedly call you a 12 year old RIGHT NOW ! ! ! ! !

Hey Archfags, what is the proper way to do a checkupdate on the AUR? I see a few packages on the AUR claiming to do the same function but I'd like to hear what people here use.

why the fuck would you, openSUSE is great
if you like the idea of a minimal loonix install go for it, it's not meant to be for everyone

Imagine using the literal worst combination ever

Why are you using hyper-v on a Linux distro you retard

I don't know. oS is great. I'm just kind of bored with it, since everything just works. I kind of want a challenge and perhaps Arch would give me that challenge.

yay

if you use xfce get xfwm-git
no compton no xorg vsync

*best

pacman -Qm
seach aur.archlinux.org

Install Arch in a VM, then delete the VM. That's the only "challenge" involved (and I use that word very loosely). Breakage and whatnot is only if you're a retard that brings it upon yourself by doing partial updates or something equally stupid.

I'm since the last 3 days trying to understand how the installation works. The installation guides always lack something that I need to complete the install and then it ends fucked up.
t. user at 3rd time installing leenx in life, 1st time trying Arch.
Not the quoted. Infact KDE is really gay, but for me is the only option to keep a decent filepicker on Firefox. I'd rather use something simpler like lxde, but the fucking filepicker doesn't let me.

Attached: VirtualBox_arch_31_01_2019_14_17_35.png (1024x768, 41K)

It's the first time I try KDE. I used tiling WMs for a long time, and also tried Gnome and Xfce (both DEs are garbage). This time I wanted to try something new and everything is going fine for now.

The filepicker is in fact one of the main reasons I chose to install KDE.

Nice memeing

Arch is pretty hard to break and even if you do by missing an announcement on the page it is easy to recover from.

Worst I've had to do chroot in from a live cd to correct Pacman when an update shit the bed due to an untimely power loss.

Based, I’m there with you

same as every binary based distro.
12yo spotted

then install it, you'll learn a thing or two
using it isn't too much of a challenge, but you can also rice it however you want and this can be a challenge if you're not used to editing config files to get what you want

I'd recommend going through the process of installing arch on a VM (if not an old laptop or spare drive). Spend some time dicking around with it; if something breaks just start over again.

Even if you ultimately switch to the convenience of manjaro, the experience will be useful.

i'd argue manjaro is less convenient, cause then you don't have support from the arch forums and they turn down mangyaro fags

That was my point, yeah. Idiots will meme about it, but accidentally breaking Arch is not easy as long as you're mindful of partial updates and the rare release announcements

>but you can also rice it however you want and this can be a challenge if you're not used to editing config files to get what you want
There's literally no advantage to using Arch for this compared to any other distro.

That being said the forums have some pretty cancerous elitest members on it and I could see new users being pretty bummed out about having to there for help..
Fortunately the wiki for Arch is the shit. Best documentation evaah

The install guide leaves much to be desired, I think it is purposely vague and unhelpful to gatekeep. youtube.com/watch?v=GKdPSGb9f5s

Bullshit. I would have used Parabola, Void or Artix since the beginning if i knew they existed. Now i gotta babysit systemd breaking my xinitrc every major update.

Just switch you dumb nigger

they'll spoonfeed you tho just to show how smart they are

There is a patch for thumbnails in gtk though:
gist.github.com/ahodesuka
You can probably find it in AUR.

I went from Arch to Void to Arch again because everything would keep breaking. You have to give up on systemd, all the usable distros force you to use it.

If your lucky, if you are unlucky they move you post and then ask some technical question that it is clear the OP doesn't have the knowledge to get without explainations

I'm always getting stuck after installing kde, rebooting and the login screen ends up not showing, leaving me at the terminal screen.
I'll try following this one and report if I be successful. Thank you.

Did you install a display manager?

did you put
exec startkde
into your .xinitrc file?

Did you enable the display manager service? Alternatively, I think you can just run startkde or whatever it's called in that terminal window and not have to use a display manager at all.

>There's literally no advantage to using Arch for this compared to any other distro.
I mean I only installed arch because I realized that the only game I play is a Java game so there's no reason for me to be on lagdows anymore. I still mainly use Windows but every day I get one thing to work on arch. I guess what i'm saying is that some people like learning things, even if they're pretty much useless.

You probably didn't install session manager.
Here's an article:
wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDE#Starting_Plasma

>Java game
It’s Minecraft isn’t it

I couldn't get Minecraft to run on Arch for some reason tho
Although only thing I can use is a pirate launcher sadly

I use dwm and get shit done. Here's your (You).

Even worse, osrs.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for being late. It didn't work.
The guy just used xorg-xinit for starting it, so I did the same.
Yes. Related pic, btw.

Did you installed xterm?

Post your .xinitrc

Either install a display manager or write "exec startkde" to .xinitrc.

And then run "startx".

made a thing

Attached: install fucking arch shinji.png (2300x2877, 1.52M)

you should run startx not startkde

also make sure the xinitrc is in your users home directory, not in the root

startx "$(which xterm)"

I use manjaro because I'm not autistic enough to install literally the same thing with more effort

Based

half assing won't get you far

Installing Arch is easier than baking a cake from a recipe

Manjaro is like buying a cake from a professional baker

soulless?

>professional
No.

Manjaro's maintainers aren't competent enough for the analogy to work.

Thanks guys. It's alive now.
That did the trick.
Probably that's what was happening. I forgot to do the shit inside the user.

Attached: VirtualBox_arch_31_01_2019_17_19_08.png (1024x768, 387K)

great job! that was literally the same problem I had

>le souless meme
>everything works great otb
>Can easily remove bloat after install is done
Sorry bud but your autism is a waste of time. I literally just clicked through an install waited a few mins and boom it's all there. Then I removed some packages and messed with a couple config. Easy peasy and super quick

>I've been using it for few minutes and it's great!

No I've been using it for months my man. Not one problem so far. Was just describing the lightning fast hands off install process that achieves literally the same thing as the arch install with no effort on my end

>Manjaro maintainers tell users to downgrade packages while upgrading, or to roll back their system clocks to resolve ssl issues

Yes. They're incompetent. End of story.

unironically, distros are just a social construct
however, the nice thing about arch is that it has nothing special about it. you dont need to worry about what distro youre using and you also dont need to uninstall a bunch of shit thats prepackaged that you dont want

Weird, I've used arch stable and manjaro testing for several years and this has literally never happened to me.

>be me
>archfag
>install the packages I want
>use arch
>

You only have to install Arch once per hardware lifetime, might as well do it right

I have instructions on how to install arch on a sheet of paper and they don't even get to cover 3/4 of the sheet

it even includes some customization options

so difficult reee

:: linux-ck 4.19.18-1 -> 4.20.6-1
:: linux-ck-headers 4.19.18-1 -> 4.20.6-1

:: steam-fonts 1.0.0-3 -> 1.0.0-4

I'm back with another issue.
Has anyone there ever suffered from 100% cpu usage and freeze inside a vm (in my case, virtualbox)?
The system randomly starts slowing down without anything special opened.

Attached: VirtualBox_arch_31_01_2019_18_24_07.png (1024x768, 228K)

just install it on your disk

Sadly it isn't possible atm, since I gotta 200+ torrent files to migrate from w7 to leenx and I'm to lazy to do it right now.
