Jow Forums you all lied to me. Chrome OS and Chromebooks are comfy as hell. Even runs real linux stuff now.
Chrome OS comfy thread
I definitely love mine. All the ease of my smartphone with a keyboard attached. I don't game. I don't do video editing. I just don't need a $1000 laptop to do 99% of what I use a laptop for. $85 for my cheap ass Chromebook. Still speedy after four years. Can't ever say I have had that in a laptop before.
I definitely getting a better one this tax return to handle Linux.
My brother.
Finally someone else realizes how comfy and based Chrome OS is.
Say goodbye to your ad blocker
This Samsung one I have was just around $600 and that's the LTE model. $400 if you just want wifi.
Google won't completely kill ad blocking. The outrage would be too much even for them to deal with.
how resource intensive is it compared to something like lubuntu
Lubuntu isn't very light anymore. It uses the same ram as kde. Both are lightest weight DEs
yeah my bad, I'm a moron, meant LXDE
I like lxqt a lot though. It's certainly better than anything gnome related. (Mate, cinnamon, etc)
Yeah, I have it on an old netbook I use miscellaneously
It's pretty comfy
>1920x1200
>less usable space than a 1280x800 laptop
pppfffhahaha
> llvmpipe
Uhhhh
Can it at least run Minecraft or fullscreen video?
Tbt to me being an autistic shit with my CR 48
>419MiB RAM used
Impressive. How outdated is Chrome in those?
I think at that point the CR48 was still in mainstream updates, so up to date circa early 2017
However it was slow as dicks, the acer CB3 my sisters use is 1000x faster than that cr48 ever was
I don't have it anymore, traded it for z61m's to a collector of weird shit
>google shill thread on Jow Forums
We've already stooped low with the godless commie stallman you OP scum. Go shill your commie crap somewhere else you godless filth. May gods OS cleanse your dirty actions.
god i hate how much i love this chromebook.
They have most of the upsides of macbooks at a price point that is orders of magnitude cheaper.
I really like how it looks. Any way to rice KDE and fontconfig up for at least similar if not the same experience?
I have an old one that lacks Android and Linux support. Still, the battery lasts forever and that's all I need.
Why can't I buy 13" 1080p IPS Chromebooks for $250 anymore?
Is Chrome OS available to download to use w/o a chromebook?
Yes
Chromium OS?
Sort of. Chromium OS is a thing, but it doesn't have Android support.
can you point me to where i can download the regular Chrome OS legit?
That isn't available outside of actual chrome os devices as far as I can tell. Think it's similar to how they distribute android. You can get open source reworks but as far as I know finding an actual android iso is next to impossible.
I never lied, I've been a fan of the system for a long time. I use a pixelbook for work when I travel, and before that was the CR48.
GalliumOS > ChromeOS
Get yourself a real laptop kid
Running a third party Linux distro on a Chrome device is like running Darwin on a mac.
You get the semi-transparent square in the top left of the terminal as well. Drives me fucking NUTS to the point where I don't want to use my chromebook.
What is that and how can we get rid of it?
All the infosec people I've met unironically use Chromebooks
Its a compromise for the comfyness of the Chomebook without the botnet.
Theyre also cheap as fuck.
Used an Acer Chromebook 14.
It sucked.
I just assume it's some form of drag handle.
Does pen and touch input work well on it?
got tired of it not having support for any codecs so I installed Linux on it, it was a good decision. buying a chromebook was a mistake.
>more googshills
FUCK.
OFF.
And yes I know the reCAPTCHA on this site is googshit spyware but I have ways around that
This is some Poe's law tier post.
talking about this
You are upsetting the shills stop it.
I'm really not a shill. I just really like the OS. It's comfy and, at least on my machine, runs just about anything Android or Linux. Wouldn't use it on my main desktop but it makes for a comfy tablet/laptop convertible.
>talking about technology you like on the technology board
>making on topic threads
>not a shill
Yeah, I'm not buying it.
can you install firefox on it?
wtf i thought chromeos was based on gentoo
Same as anything else. As long as it runs on either Linux, Android, NaCL, HTML+css+js.
Pretty sure it still is.
I miss my Chromebook. It was a piece of shit, but using it was actually really nice when it worked.
GalliumOS is pretty decent. I've never really had to deal with any kind of config issues. All the function keys, touchpad, webcam, etc are all set up when you first install.
