you cant learn to code with a wooden train set user.
I actually fear people who grew up using the internet. They almost always have no empathy.
I'd let my kids use a computer that wasn't connected to the internet. They could still use it to play games, make music, write documents, learn code, read books, whatever. Just no internet.
Yeah if I ever have a kid (fat chance) he's getting a desktop running Linux. No smartphone, social media, youtube, etc blocked at the router.
If he gets savvy enough to root his own box and get around the restrictions, then he can do what he pleases.
Should you? No.
Should you get the government to enact laws to keep kids off social media? Absolutely not.
Man at one point disqus was on like every website, now you almost never see it
mfw I check those quads
I'd probably start my kid (if I ever have one (even fatter chance)) off with my IBM 380ED assuming it'd still work.
Later on they'd get a linux computer but I'd want them to experience stuff from my childhood first.
>If he gets savvy enough to root his own box and get around the restrictions, then he can do what he pleases.
honestly thats the best outcome out of it, or he ends up stealing your tech and selling it for drugs or a phone
If you don't get the government to enact laws to keep kids off social media, the practical reality is the horror show we all expect in the future.
"Government" isn't a slur. It's the greatest invention of man so far and a useful tool to prevent the herd from walking off the face of a cliff.
Anyway, the sad reality is that there's not much laws can do to help us on this matter. My own opinion is that we're doomed.
the problem isn't the kids using devices
the problem is the parents using devices instead of watching their kids
Nah, he's quite right. Letting them take a way your rights just makes way for losing ever more rights. What should be regulated are the companies with their data mining and advertising, among other things. For OPs problem, the actual solution is to make better people; people who will moderate their own consumption (kids being guided by their parents until they grow up), and people who will provide good services and products, not addictive ones.
Government absolutely is a slur. Not only is it horribly incompetent at everything it does, it also has no business taking on parental roles.
I showed my nephews steam
I regret it.
My children will have no contact with neoliberal consumer capitalism or any other aspects of modern culture.
I will totally encourage them to play with computing though.
Time spent looking at `screens' is not the problem.
>horribly incompetent at everything it does
>as opposed to the private sector which has a 90% failure rate
Private good. Public bad. Nuance dumb.
Computers are far more interesting than whatever you have in your "reality" plus I have a good career thanks to them while those who played in the street never amounted to anything.
Yes. No nuance is necessary, because there is either mutual consent between involved parties, or there is not.
Jobs and Gates did the same
the difference is that my money goes involuntarily to the government.
I couldn't care less about private companies failing unless they get bailed out by the government.
What do you mean involuntarily? Get out then, commie scum.
Maybe it'll work if you're tech savvy enough to enforce it. It took me 2 months after figuring out what porn is to keylog my parents and ruin my childhood.
Against his consent, commie. That's what involuntary means in this context.
They take your money and if you refuse to give them money, they escalate use of force until you're dead either figuratively or literally.
"Just move lol" is not an argument. Being born somewhere does not imply consent.
>play games
Why? I understand the others but why allow this one?
Enjoy your kids being brainwashed into "perfect consumers"
Do you think infrastructure builds itself or?
>average Jow Forums poster
social media is cancer, but I believe everything else is fine.
Computers are just a tool, an extension of your brain. Give one to a brainlet and he will pass its days consuming dumb media and YouTube, the result will only depend on themselves.
That's the point though. It isn't so much that I want to completely stop him and more that I want to make him work his brain a bit for it. Like if he learns how DNS and firewalls work and sets up an SSH tunnel to somewhere so he can look at anime tiddies, well, then, he earned it.
>let's not let our kids use technology
Don't you realize that they're gonna be exposed to it no matter what? Other kids will have technology and your kids will be there to watch them and use it with them.
Lolbert absolutism is entirely idealistic and doesn't apply to current government, let alone what should or should not come next in policy.
Maybe we should solve the bigger issue of rampant theft in the society before wondering who builds the roads.
We are all aware that we consider virtuous or just does indeed not apply to the government. That's the entire issue.
How would lolberts tackle corruption?
>they're bad politicians don't vote for them again
Oof, that doesn't work.
the less government is responsible for and the less money it takes in and has to spend the less scope there is for corruption. Power is what corrupts, so give politicians less of it.
wooden blocks and lego start teaching the basic skills you'll need though
This is true, but it goes even further. Modern men and women are not fit for raising children.
Many are still too immature themselves to take care of another human being.
Look at this soilent lad for example. So selfishly engrossed in his video game that he doesn't even notice his baby daughter asking for attention.
clips.twitch.tv
Not him but it's fun for the kid. You can get plenty of basic educational games if you're worried about the quality. I mean fuck you could even code some basic ones yourself
seppuku immediately Mr shekelstein
I like this approach, good luck starting a family user
You can program on paper.
But u can with punch cards , and index cards
Government is a necessary evil, but it is still evil. It is one of the greatest mass murdering entities of all time. You should never glorify it in such terms as "the greatest invention of man," nor should you allow it to grow so powerful that it is permitted to decide how parents are allowed to raise their children.
I don't even want to imagine how fucked up the next generation is going to be
This is nothing new, Boomers grew watching cable TV all day.
i would be more controlling of my kid's life
if my parents where more controlling of mine i would have turned out even better, its just some parents dont know when they have to let go
>Should you let kids spend so much time on a screen
no. give your kid a laptop/phone at 13. Have a single pc that everyone uses at home. Careless retards that dont want their kids to bother them give them tablets at all
>Should you let kids spend so much time on a screen
only if it's a DOS or BASIC based machine with a book and MAYBE some shareware floppies.
If they want something else they need to tell me their computing needs in detail.
Don't raise them in America or anywhere in the EU.
lest they end up like pic related jesus christ.
Just about everything in that pic is great. I can't tell what that red thing next to Reimu is.
it's a
>anons discuss how they'll raise the children they'll never have
thread
It's a DS I think
General consensus is that video games don't necessarily have much of an effect on how children process emotions, so I'm fine with it.
Although I'd still regulate which games are appropriate for my kid to play depending on his age. It's inappropriate for a 9-year-old to be playing GTA.
Pic related is based you sick fuck
I'm trying to teach my toddler to respect electrical devices especially something so fragile as a smartphone. My wife gives him her phone and lets him watch videos on facebook for about an hour every morning and she has had the audacity to reproach me for the amount of screen time I let him have which I control......
Being a kid without having a computer is boring as shit
Playing in the street is boring as shit
This
>no money to do shit
>you cant go anywhere without your parents annoying you
Its no surprise kids love to go in virtual worlds like roblox
Because wanting to make games is a common motivator for kids to learn to program.
I'm a fucking 25yo zoomer and this still hurts.
notice how the internet started out completely decentralized, but slowly got taken over by massive corporations? Power of muh free market for you.
This. There's no need to pass laws to moderate shit people can moderate on their own.
Agreed.
My thoughts exactly but for wangblows because I don't want him to catch autism and when I give him games I want them to work.
The problem isn't tech, it's how parents use it. They don't use it as the next stage of helping the child's education, they don't sit with their child and help them develop their conceptual abilities and education. They use it as an electronic babysitter, not as a CBL device
It's significantly reducing people's attention span, especially in kids. To the point that kids in my former high school dropped grades by over 20% in just 4 years after I've finished it and most now require "special care" because they're fucking retarded.
Same here. I'm buying a Pine64 phone right now just so I can give it to my kid. Every jew social media will be blocked in the hosts file, uBlockOrigin and my home router. And I'll be the only one to know the admin password.
All children are brainlets.
Also this. Parents throw smartphones even at 3 yearolds and say "here, play, leave me alone". But you can't blame them, it's capitalisms fault for forcing people to work 10h/day and forcing women to work when they could've stayed home taking care of kids.
I really don't understand people who do that
>I'm going to have a kid!
>Wait...you mean I have to RAISE it
>all children are brainlets
and water is wet.
>the problem is the parents using devices instead of watching their kids
This so much. I see this all the time. And what do you expect a kid to do if the parent(s) are playing video games or something all day? It's not that strange that they grab a phone or tablet or whatever.
Too common
All childrens are brainlets and easily brainwashed. Thats just a fact.
I read about a story that happened in China I think that a couple was playing a video game while they neglected their child which actually died. What's really ironic is the video game they were playing the objective was about taking care of a child.
There are cases of gamers dying from sitting too long etc.
Neck yourself brainlet.
I think screens are fine it just depends what they're doing. I started using social media when I was 11 and all the likes etc made me start craving the attention which makes you post more and then crave the attention even harder, it's a fucked up feedback loop. I'm sure I'm not the only one either seems like most people who use social media a lot are the same. Glad I stopped using that cancer, I don't think kids should be using social media because I imagine it can do some damage when people are using it young. Also checked
Free market was always a meme and some weird fantasy of some people.
You can pay for infrastructure. Voluntarily.
Why should I pay for free education for shitskins who immigrate here just for the social benefits, or for the free healthcare which I know is shitty so I never use anyway but which those same shitskins also try to wring out of every last penny? I don't need two healthcare plans, I have a private one because the alternatives are absolute shit, yet I'm forced to pay for two. I have never used public education, yet I'm forced to pay for it.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't pay the proportion of my taxes which are spent on public parks, road maintenance, and the like, because I find those services useful. Just like public transport - for some reason everyone's OK with paying for that directly, but everything else just has to be funded through taxes. Why should pajeet with his shitty peugot not fund my commute, if I'm funding his child's education? Because neither makes any fucking sense, that's why.
Everyone always says "muh roads" but people with cars are already taxed. Roads are literally funded in a fair, by-consent model. At least where I live.
Not a single one of you faggots mentioned the visual impairments in children caused by screens.
I started to wear glasses at like 12 because of reading books under poor light, screens are in no way new or unique in this
Is no one going to acknowledge these numerals?
THE NUMBERS
That doesn't make it less of a problem.
What the fuck is toast?
I have perfect vision and I've been staring at a screen all my life. I spend 10h/day staring at my phone or monitor. Visual impairments caused by screens are a meme. The only issue I ever have is focusing on very distant objects, but my eyes recover after a day of not looking at my phone or monitor. But this isn't because "muh screen" it's because you're looking at an object very close to you and your eyes adjust to that. The same would happen if you were reading, drawing or doing anything else similar for a long time. I speak from experience.
Yeah this is going to be hard as fuck for me when I have kids. I might have to get rid of half of my electronics just to ensure that I'm paying attention to my kids
>Inb4 you shouldn't have to do that unless you're an addict
Of course I'm an addict I'm shitposting at work while on the toilet. And you're here too so you don't have a leg to stand on for this either.
This is fucked
>Ran
Based and redpilled
>"Here , play , leave me alone"
triggered
Parent here - we limit screen time for our child. It's almost like opium for her so its something to avoid. Everything she watches is more or less educational though. We're not going to be luddites about her exposure to tech but at the same time its incredibly important that we monitor it.
I'm thankful that I am more tech-inclined than the other mouthbreathers that whelped kids and park them with a tablet. Those poor kids.
We try to go outdoors as much as possible. Our little girl loves going to the park so we've got that going for us.
I would encourage my kid to code. And do team sports.
So he won't become a friendless neet. He'll always have employable skills and a group of friends.
This. I plan on encouraging my daughter to solve math problems using programs she writes.
When I was a kid I used to help my father in woodwork and there I learned some basic skills.
I would buy my kids a little PC with no Internet connection and some toys like pic related. Kids love to create and imagine shit.
You can't learn to code with a phone either.
Yes
I remember having Mechano sets when I was a kid. Good shit.
literally raising a criminal
great parenting, user.
>if i break the rules, anything i do is ok
I'd only let my kids use non-gendered toys, like Legos and Rubik's Cubes.
A smart criminal though, not a dindu. If my hypothetical kid robbed a bank by sticking a BadUSB in the wire transfer server I'd be proud; if he gunned a clerk down I wouldn't.
