So /tech/ what computer application do you recommend to use, and why?

pic related

here is mine list (i'm a beginner):
>OS: Win 8.1 - it's ok
>torrent: Deluge - fast, no lag
>media player: Windows media player (btw Winamp is back i heard, is it good?)
>pdf reader: Adobe - need a good one, I hate it
>flash player: Adobe - any better out there?
>browser (and what addons): Mozilla with Noscript, Ublock origin, Https everywhere - decent
>search engine: Duckduckgo

Feel free to expand the list

Wrong chan, mate.

fuck, you are right, but do you discuss these kind of things here right?

>OS: Win 8.1 - it's ok
It's really not, but no matter how deep you go into the rabbit hole it's gonna be shit. OpenBSD is the closest thing to a "good" OS but it still suffers from many missing features.
>torrent: Deluge - fast, no lag
This is the opposite situation, there are tons of good options and it doesn't really matter what you use. Transmission is probably a better choice for a seedbox but otherwise it's entirely up to you.
>media player
Use mpv
>pdf reader
Use MuPDF
>flash player:
Do people still use those? Yeah I don't know of any better alternatives
>browser (and what addons): Mozilla with Noscript, Ublock origin, Https everywhere - decent
Replace noscript with umatrix and you're doing pretty well. If you want to improve, look into the actual firefox configuration, there are tons of guides on what to change in about:config to make it much better - by default firefox is pretty poor for privacy.
>search engine: Duckduckgo
Use searx

You can only have this thread so many times before it gets boring. Most of the content is arguing about new releases by novideo, ayyymd, and intlel, or data breaches/privacy scandals nobody is surprised about, and rarely whatever news comes out about actually interesting things like talons ii, risc-v, actually interesting new vulnerabilities/exploits, and stuff. And of course the consumerism generals.

thanks for the advices, yeah i know windows sucks ass, but i am afraid to change, but i will eventually
I don't trust big companies, I'm trying to improve.
>flash player
it's the one let you watch youtube videos and whatnot

>YouTube flash player
What year is it?

switch your media player to mpv and install the 'send to mpv player' firefox addon. also put youtube-dl inside of the mpv directory, you dont even need a browser to watch videos on most websites.

forgot to mention:
Ive heard sumatra is a good winblows pdf reader

thank you

Either Arch, Debian, or Win 10 LTSC
>torrent
transmission.
It was shilled here and I didn't know there were others.
>media player
audacious or mpv
>pdf
mupdf
>flash player
What?
>browser
Ungoogled chromium 67
uBlock Origin - google domains blacklisted (am phoneposting for this)
>search engine
Startpage

>uBlock Origin - google domains blacklisted (am phoneposting for this)
how do I do that?

>move mouse
>house moves

Go to ublock's settings, go to filters, and type in stuff like google.com and gstatic.com. It's surprising how they're unnecessarily and suspiciously connected to almost every single website out there. You can see the domains connected to you by simply left clicking the ublock button.

thanks, but I use noscript too, and if I do not enable gstatic in certain websites, they won't load
Is this the same thing or what?

uBlock Origin is all you need. Most of the time it blocks everything from ___ domain. However if the page can't load without it, it sometimes lets it through. Think of it as a 'smart' script blocker. You still don't see ads, and you can't post here if google.com is listed in the filter. Pages don't break though.

I think i keep both and will see if noscript will behave badly

what about search engine? duckduckgo isn't good?
searx and startpage were mentioned, are they better?

Duckduckgo is compromised, they're based in the US and they route all their traffic through Israel.
>inb4 Regardless, it's suspicious and it's better to just not trust it.

Startpage is basically google search without the data collection and tracking. It works well enough, I like it.

Searx and Yandex have no filter. A search in pretty much anything will give you porn, sometimes illegal. I don't use it.

That's as far as I'm willing to tell you. Who's to say you're not CIA? Jow Forums is basically owned by google, and if you care about privacy, don't post here.

only the plebs shout Jow Forums
it is indeed suspicious, i didn't know that, i will blacklist duckduckgo just like google
searx sounds interesting, but i will stick to startpage

i completly left Jow Forums when m00t betrayerd us, didn't know Jow Forums sink that deep

It's the best one

>it's the one let you watch youtube videos and whatnot
Unless you're doing something very wrong, that should be your browser's rendering engine.

fucking kek that image. this is even more funny when you're hungarian.

>héy jános
>you said you have cold szerver room in your company
>I need space for pork from yesterdays slaughter

Just use your browser.

>winfag wish they had this
*fires up msys2 and build*
nothing personal, kiddo

YouTube moved from flash years ago

Which is the right one?

>OS
macOS or BunsenLabs

>torrent
Transmission

>media player
OS default

>pdf reader
OS default

>flash player
None

>browser (and what addons)
Safari or Midori

>search engine
Duckduckgo

is this a meme?

> yeah i know windows sucks ass, but i am afraid to change

Nothing to be afraid of. Grab a copy of Manjaro, MX Linux, or Linux Mint and jump in. You can install it onto a USB drive and then if something goes wrong you still have Windows on your hard disk.

linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/burn.html#how-to-make-a-bootable-usb-stick

lmao i'm sorry OP but every single application you're using is fucking terrible and can be replaced by simply looking up "FOSS/Better alternatives to X"
As for my software, I'm not going to list what I currently use, but what I used to use was:
>OS
OpenBSD for non-work computer, un-fucked windows 7 for main desktop. Fuck linux.
>Torrent
Qbit, easy to use, easy to install. Nice UI. Good.
>media player
VLC, no other reason to use anything else.
>pdf reader
xpdf, non-bloated and free
>flash player
??? Flash is made by Adobe. There is only one "flash player"
>browser
surf on openbsd, tor or iridium or OCCASSIONALLY firefox for windows
>search engine
startpage

I always discover new software with these threads so gonna give my honest opinion
>OS
Arch becauze of AUR, java version handling, pacman and its wiki
>Torrent
Qbit, picked it because of threads like these, never looked back at
>media player
mpv, /mpv/ general gives great tips to configure it, the only thing I miss from VLC is content streaming, maybe I just haven't googled hard enough
>pdf reader
Evince, honestly the only thing that interests me are dark modes for extensive reading, evince has one
>flash player
Uh? Browser I guess
>browser
Firefox, it aint much but it does the job, planning to try Icecat but muh addons
Add-ons: uMatrix, privacy badger, dark mode, rested for webdev shit and a all-tabs-to-clipboard thing
>search engine
Bing for porn,

Learned a bit of linux or unix i guess in university in Debian, I liked it.
Can i use Tor browser for anywebsites? I try it for facebook or youtube but it didn't load. Maybe I messed up something.
That was my purpose.
>dark mode
I was wondering if anything like that exist, thanks man
>Bing for porn
Is it good for that?

Anyone know a good alternative for Microsoft Visual Studio (c#)?
