Is the surface pro 6 worth it? I want one as a secondary computer/tablet.

just buy a laptop
there is literally no use case for it. Trust me

Really, what where the major pros and cons? Is the battery life good?
If you are a graphics artist and need a tablet, sure.
If you want an ultraportable powerful laptop, surface laptop 2.
If you want something to replace your desktop, surface book 2.
Is the surface laptop g approved?
Yes, but I'd personally get an Elite X2.
No, because most of Jow Forums are poorfags who would never spend more than $500 on a laptop and would rather buy a piece of shit used thinkpad off of craigslist.
not him but i agree. just get a nice ultrabook or something and youll be allright.
i remember i bought one at the beginning of my senior year in university, it was really useful as a notebook and its the only thing i wouild bring anywhere with the pen. basically infinite notebooks and since i was doing comp sci i could do my projects on it, nice and comfy.
as soon as i graduated i just dont have a need for it anymore, id rather have some small laptop without a lot of power that is easier to carry around.
I just returned mine for a blade stealth. Just depends what you're looking for in a tablet/laptop.
I got a Surface Pro 6 on sale and I'm very happy with it. The only one worth the money is the baseline 128GB version though, the other ones do not justify their price increase at all. Base model gets you 4C/8T CPU, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The major disadvantage to these things is that they aren't repairable, can't really complain about anything in practice, really. It performs well and the screen is gorgeous too, it's the best IPS I've ever seen. It doesn't even have IPS glow, I've seen monitors which cost more than the entire tablet and still had worse image quality.
>Should I spring for the larger storage model?
This. Surface Pro's single greatest use is to be a notebook machine. You can use different colors on the spot, annotate PowerPoints, draw symbols to help you remember things.
Personally I have bad handwriting and Microsoft's software could tell the difference between my C's and E's which look the same. If you don't have bad handwriting like I do then justifying a Surface Pro is gonna be tough.
One of the few things HP has ever done right.
I love my SP6, using it as a sketchbook, laptop and tablet. Depends on what you want to use it for. As an ultraportable that you just want to use to surf, maybe a bit expensive, but the form factor is very good if you want to use the touchscreen and not have it bounce all around on you.
Dam is it really that easy to repair?
I disagree, they're great for students. I got a SP4 and it was great being able to switch between typing notes and drawing diagrams. I've actually seen the number of surface devices rise quite a lot over the past few years, more than I expected anyway. They seem to be more popular than macbooks in my program at least.
Now that I've almost done with university I'll don't think I'll get another surface, but my SP4 served me well.
no, the larger storage is a meme. you can buy an external drive that will be infinitely more useful to you and much cheaper. always get the smaller storage if it still gets you the good specs.
exactly. it was amazing for for note taking, organization and in general class shit.
i remember drawing simple diagrams for my senior software project. shit helped so much for the group, being able to just sketch something and send it around as a png. instead of drawing on a piece of paper then having to scan it or send a picture.
Yeah, but when I was looking for a tablet a decent Elite X2 was hard to find. SP6 had much, much better specs at the same price point, like you'd get some m5 CPU, 4GB RAM and a worse screen with an Elite X2 at the same price as the cheapest SP6 which had double the RAM and double the cores at higher clocks too. This was a few months ago in Europe, maybe it's different in the US.
>no, the larger storage is a meme
Yeah, I bought the 128GB version. I don't even need more storage than that on a tablet, personally.
What's a good laptop to replace my desktop?
I'm not much of a gaymer, and I would like something with a great display and good battery life.
Also I'm a girl and am secretly lesbian.
I upgraded from my SP4 taking a MS Bundle with keyboard cover for $1100. Sold my SP4 with the bundled cover for $400 to a relative.
im going to need to see your tits to figure out a good laptop
Is the tilt super nice to have? Worth me upgrading?
pm me
The tilt seems to work well with the standard Windows Paint that no one really uses. I use it with Clip Studio Paint and I'm trying to get a good custom curve to make it useful. The problem I have with the program and the tilt is that it makes it way too dark for my tastes. I'd basically be using tilt in my sketchbook work, maybe life drawing, but I don't see using it in my regular stuff since that's generally inked.
That being said, battery life is much better, maybe only because my SP4 was getting long in the tooth and the battery was slowly starting to lose its charge. The stand of the SP6 doesn't seem as stiff as my SP4, taking less pressure to make it recline. YMMV because the SP6 seems to have gotten rid of some pesky shoelacing on my pen strokes and I can go back to using the CSP Pen setting I used to use on my old SP2.
Have some more scribbles.
I had an sp4 for one day and it was too weird writing with a thick writing utensil with a rubber point on a glass surface.
No it's shit. Get a laptop
>Is the battery life good?
No, it's terrible.
How bad?
Is there a
bullshit, mine had descent battery. if you didnt bump the brightness up all the way and used it properly you could get away without a charger for a day. (typical university day).
if you had long projects and were doing shit on it all day you would need a charger, but what laptop wouldnt?
about 9 hours with the i5, fanless, 8GB RAM.
Thats pretty gud
I know. t.formerSurfaceUser is talking out their ass.
Unfortunately the G3 removed the sd card slot, so you'll have to make due with NAS or one of those tiny USB-C thumb drives. The thinkpad x1 tablet is also a good contender
>Is there a
I was thinking about buying a Surface Book 2 instead of a pro 6, is this a bad idea?
Best fap tablet out there. Browse with uBlock and play shitty RenPy games without having to get up.
They'll probably refresh them in a few months
Depends what you need it for. As an artist, I'd lean toward the SP6 since it has the kickstand to offer a bit more stability when writing/drawing on the screen than the SB2.
I love my surface, it's perfect for working on trains and watching shit in bed at night. I suppose a laptop could work too but I dunno, I just love this thing.
How do you hold it on the train? Is it light enough to hold?
How can you do any work on a train with the back heavy design? It's always so awkward to keep on my lap if I want to use the keyboard and have it at a reasonable angle, unless you're talking about tablet mode reading/writing.
I guess the question really is if you want to use it more as a tablet or more as a laptop. If tablet, get SP6, if laptop get a SB.
I had a Surface Pro 3 for my undergrad years. It was great. I highly recommend the Surface Pro machines to anyone in education. But once I graduated, I built a desktop and stopped using the surface. My phone plus a desktop is good enough. Kinda miss reading manga on it though
So it depends on what you want. Its a fully fledged windows machine. Personally I hate the laptop form factor so it was a godsens
Granted, although I think the SP line is the best compromise between tablet and laptop, Microsoft made a poor decision in making the stand fold almost all the way flat. I draw with a heavy hand, palm actually on the screen, and the kickstand is not stiff enough for the pressure. I've modded my cover using some bits of plastic from some old pen loop holders to give me a stable drawing angle on a desk or kitchen table. I can only guess that the designers of the SP thought that a low angle like that would be best for people touchtyping with the onscreen keyboard in their lap.
I use a seat with a table, if not, the trains usually have a thing that pulls down on the backs of chairs I can rest it on, it's usually stable enough. And the display is top quality, I'd have to pay double what I paid for the surface (~£550) for a comparable laptop screen which is also light enough to carry around every day easily.
The kickstand is to provide the stability. "Lapability" as the MS guy says probably depends on how long your legs are.
I'm short and fat, so there's just barely enough room for the keyboard if the kickstand is on my knees.
Lucky, we have no such tables on my subways. I would probably hold it vertically or use it in my lap.
Long slim legs here. Got them Basket Ball American legs. Here's a pic of a typical subway train in my city.
In that respect, yeah, using it on a table or tray is best.
Well, there's also the Surface Go, smaller, potentially shorter for your legs. Though from the reviews not as powerful.
It looks so clean but it also looks so uncomfortable.
At least the SP6 will keep one from manspreading and possibly triggering someone.
Too shitty to be a computer too heavy to be a tablet.
So instead of one compromise device, you'll carry two that would weigh more than the one. That makes sense.
If you want all your info sent to micro$haft sure.
If you want to be a winfag loser then yes.
>no, the larger storage is a meme. you can buy an external drive that will be infinitely more useful to you and much cheaper. always get the smaller storage if it still gets you the good specs.
They never say that the storage is minus the OS, system files, and other junk they put on it.
Limey poorfag detected.
LOL basketball american.
Too clean to be a subway in america.
I had a SP2 and I thought it was great as a computer but yes shit as a tablet. They've improved the weight/thickness over time but they still definitely treat it more like a laptop you can hold sometimes. I ended up with a used Samsung Tab Pro S and it's been great. More tablet than computer is what I was going for and that's it. Works when I need to do work emails and whatnot (and I just RDP to a VM or my home desktop for anything truly intensive) and this doesn't cripple the tablet experience. Plus, some fuck on Swappa had way too good of a deal so I feel great about the price, likely because they were hoping for more computer than tablet so they just got rid of it for cheap
@69614842
literal faggot
>If you want all your info sent to micro$haft sure.
As opposed to sending your info to Google, Amazon, or Apple?
>If you want to be a winfag loser then yes.
Apple ditched the PC and Creatives for the much more lucrative phone market (actually financially wise move). The MacBook doesn't even have a touchscreen.
Face it, Apple doesn't need you anymore.
All are evil, use Linux.
That shit run by that faggot and his faggot daughter?
I'd rather not diminish my productivity to satisfy my moralistic paranoia.
Can someone recommend a windows tablet to me?
I sit in my car all day as part of my job. I don't want a laptop because of how bulky and cumbersome they are with having to open and close them. I don't need some beast, I just want to casually draw and have a USB tablet for that, or play some meme games to pass the time.
Everyone just says to get a Surface 3 or higher but I don't want to drop $300 on something so casual. Surely there's a more budget option?
I was given a surface 3 tablet in a raffle.
Literally no justifiable use for it
traded it on Craigslist for a Nintendo switch,
then sold the Switch.
I have a mac/iphone for any mobile computer needs
one of the most worthless pieces of tech ever.
>actually financially wise move
until everyone who'd buy your phone has one and now you don't have anything else to sell them (having neglected every other product for years)
It's not terrible. When I use my SP6 around the house I only keep it between 30% and 70% charge (so only using 40% capacity) in order to extend the life of the non-replaceable battery and I only have to charge it every few days. It doesn't get a lot of use in this situation of course, mostly just a few hours (in total) of browsing and reading manga but in any case the battery is pretty decent.

This list have most windows laptops, tablets with pen support. Do your own research because not all of them exist or have good price on your market.
My recommendation would be a poverty spec Surface 3 + a cheap pen if you can live with lighter weight software.
Its pretty comfortable.
Whats wrong with windows? I have actually work to get done so I need an OS that actually works.
>>Too clean to be a subway in america. Have you ever been to america my dude? The subway cars here are given a though clean down after they finish their line. The subway cars on my line always smell like cleaning solution
If $300 is your budget I really don't think you'll get a very good x86 tablet. Looking for an Android tablet or something may be a better idea.
