Why do you think buying hardware for the most demanding task is childish? Why is using Windows, the most-used OS in business (except server hosting), childish or even exclusively focused on games? And what's actually wrong with dual-booting? Storage is dirt cheap and even SSDs are inexpensive.

You can use a GPU for more than just gaming. I use mine for photo editing and 3D modeling

Linux is awesome for games. It is a great filter for the trash.
99.9% of games are trash these days. Linux acts as a filter. In Linux only 90% are trash, which enables me to find the rare gems much more easily.
Therefore Linux is the best OS for gaming as well. There's absolutely nothing Linux doesn't do better.
