Do you collect obsolete pc hardware?

Do you collect obsolete pc hardware?

I kick myself all the fucking time for throwing out a lot of my ancient hardware years ago. my new policy is that I never get rid of any components that still work.

I do still have a few old CPUs though, including an 80186.

Posted on the hoard thread yesterday

not deliberately

I usually either take my old junk out to the desert and shoot it, part it out and sell on ebay, or salvage things like capacitors from it if I need some for a project

>I collect random parts to put on display for cool boi / internet points
>t. zoomer hipster

no

You could say so, yes.
And this is only the "highlights". I have a workshop full of generic wintel boxes and PowerMacs which I keep for no reason other than hoarding.
You've probably been told this countless times, but that Indy does not belong in that pile of IBM Compatible trash

Why do you have so many GPU's?
>inb4 turns out you were a crypto miner

I'd love to use one of those mac pros as a server/nas/heater

>salvaging the most perishable electronic component in existence

shut up loser

Repurposed an A6 3650 not to long ago for a friend's super budget gaming PC.

Used bus OC to get it slightly over 3GHZ without touching the voltage.

why do people build a computer and then its all they can talk about forever

I sell that trash to idiots.

I collect non-x86 hardware. Old x86 hardware becomes decorative (like keychains) and salvaged for components and then thrown out

Not anymore.

It's just useless trash to be quite honest. The only old thing I'd like to have now is for example a laptop that could run Windows 98, for retro gayming. That's it.

I sell it on craigslist or literally leave it at the end of my driveway and some kid will take it.

I actually enjoy repairing/restoring old hardware but I don't have any use for it myself so I sell it to hipsters for a tidy profit.

only legacy hardware worth collecting is soundcards which might mean you need a old PCI (not pci-e) motherboard to run them 100% as ive had problem with adaptors.

i've kept my first computer and the first pc i built for sentimental value and apart from that i have a toshiba libretto 100ct. i try not to buy things i don't have a use for

>Do you collect obsolete pc hardware?
I do, but then after a while I just run out of space for it and so I bin it. Example, I had about 15 IDE hard drives and was saving them because some of the companies I work for relied on them. Thenj I realised about a month ago that I havent had to change an IDE drive for about 5 years so I threw them out after smashing them with a hammer and pouring parafin all over them and setting fire to them to ensure nobody could retrieve the data. I only got rid of a voodoo 2 card about a year ago, and I still have some old scsi raid array cards that wont even be detected by a modern motherboard even though they are PCI cards. I spent months trying to make them readable by a modern bios before ditching them. No regrets really. If I wanted to start a museum of computers I would have done

Same. I threw out a lot of choice hardware in high school just because I didn't see the value in it and I was stupid with my money. I could have sold it at the very least, but nope, straight into the dumpster!

PowerMac G5, but yeah.

> buying new caps when you have boards full of them

> keeping old boxes justincase
Thank god I'm not the only one
Early 2000s shit warranty service scared me for life so I still keep boxes even if I don't use it

that IBM PC is pretty slick, user. Have you done any programming on it? What's it like?

> building a new computer from the ground up
My computer that I use has been rolling upgrading since about 1998
Right now the only old thing in my computer is the case and power supply from my last build. Before then it was the dvd drive and CPU
Before then it was the hard drive
Before then it to was the CD drive
Before then it tot was the floppy disk and power supply
Before then it that was the floppy drive and power supply

my dad does, are you my dad?

If you want spare heatsinks or CPUs or basically anything else for these, I have one with a dead logic board sitting around.

>Have you done any programming on it?
I haven't, as I feel the IBM PC wasn't really meant as a proper computer as much as it was a Selectric replacement. Funnily enough I had a Selectric in that spot before I got the XT.

I collect obsolete keyboards

Show me the rarest or most obscure piece of hardware you own
I want to see some cool shit

Sonnet Encore /ZIF G4 1GHz, the fastest CPU upgrade ever made for the PowerMac G3 and "Yikes!" PowerMac G4. Currently this is the only picture of this card without a heatsink you'll find on the entire Internet.

Take more photos then cunt

I still have my GeForce 2 and a Turtle Beach Montego sound card somewhere

1/?

I have taken them with a proper camera but I'm currently posting from the shitter and have no access to them. Give me a bit and I'll post them.
In the meanwhile, have a pic of this nice PCI/ISA backplane I have laying around.

I await your return

only some of my old hardware

How about the inside of a $2800 surveillance server

Or this hp pro 608 I got bored and decided to figure out the pinout of

Looks neat, but just more shit to dust. Fuck that.

do you have a large stack of iphones too

>$2800 for a box of commodity hardware worth about 1/4 of the price
The support or software better be fucking GREAT to excuse almost 3 grand for that shit

Support is non existent. The company has a cert program if you are a licensed installer.

The software is pretty solid and just werks though. You can bet your fucking ass I imaged that drive before first boot.

I've got an MSI HD-7950 if you want it.

is that klein tester any good?

hoard geforce 256 and geforce 2 and 3 cards

pretty basic but it works fine. does pair checking and tone.

black top p pros too

should I go for the Jr version or the one like you have?

idk, it was free to me as I took it from work.
If you're really needing one, I'd get one that does load testing or verifies the data capacity of the cable.

Yes.

In fact I do. I probably have more Thinkpads than anybody else on Jow Forums.

I just bought a used l440 to replace my t420, did I make a mistake ? I wanted a slightly newer processor

Attached: ub.jpg (960x1280, 215K)

>he bought a chicklet keyboard memetop to replace his real Thinkpad
Yes you made a mistake.

I have used both keyboards and the chiclet is a step down for sure but i wanted a more powerful system.

You mind posting a pic of your case? Interested to see how you got all the new hardware in a case from the 90s.

The 440 is only marginally more powerful. Intel's made like a 1% per year CPU performance gain since 2008.

Yeah I collect artifacts from 2012 inside of my tower and then I hook them up to my mouse, keyboard and monitor

give them back Jamal

>The 440 is only marginally more powerful.
graphics wise it's 2.5x more powerful.

Cute catto!

>sealed
Pretty sure you can make big bucks out of this on ebay user

post sauce to the disk image

Not obsolete

No. Unless you count Socket A and 478 as obsolete.

The newer keyboard is fine, that's not the issue. The 40 series trackpad though, with its soft buttons, is the problem.
