Linux DEs

I want to put a DE, but I don't know what to put, and I know there are pros and cons. How do each defer from the other ones and which is the best?
>inb4 shilling
Please provide both pros and cons, otherwise opinion discarded.

Just get a normal OS like WIndows or Mac, stop trying to be some contrarian neckbeard virgin faggot.

Just don't do gnome

This
Install windows 10 LTSC, practically no bother whatsoever.

openbox is the only acceptable DE.

>KDE
>fractional DPI scaling
>good tier file manager
>productive tier interface and flexibility
>buggy as fuck
>on novidya cards it's slow and gets tearing

>xfce/lxde
>fast
>low memory
>little features
>no flexibility
>non existent DPI scaling

>gnome
>non-fractional DPI scaling
>shit tier applications
>lacks flexibility except through buggy extensions
>slow
>nonsense UI design
>shit tier apps

>unity
>fractional DPI scaling
>fairly stable and plays nice with novidya cards
>lack of flexibility and features
>nonsense UI design
>shit tier apps

Just install Lumina, user.

the developer is a twatter SJW trashy woman

I recommend XFCE.

Can be made pretty.
Light on resources.
Customizeable.

And?

> hohohohehehehaha
> I'm gnot a gnKDE
> I'm gnot a gnXFCE
> I'm a gnome
> and you've been
> GNOOOOOMED!

Attached: gnome.jpg (800x450, 26K)

that makes it unacceptable (not like it was a good choice to begin with)

I have no idea what XFCE is or does sorry.

Why it makes it unacceptable?

>Lumina
>lightweight
>functional
>intuitive
>customizable
>fast
>young
What else could you ask for?

because helping to popularizing a project made by an SJW is a disadvantage when there are alternatives. using something which has a disadvantage when there are alternatives is unacceptable unless you're retarded or a masochist

>manjaro cinnamon or mint cinnamon
>it just werks
>lower idle ram than gnome
>stable for days on end (gnome and kde are prone to crashing and freezing on resuming from suspend)
>FAST file searches, great file explorer
>like windows
>right click to open folders as root/terminal as root (why doesn't anyone else do this its so intuitive)
>control panel-like system wide options make sense
>it does everything you would want it to do automatically, such as mounting drives,
>notifications, music player in taskbar, easy to create icon launchers
>ideal for one handed masturbation use

>i3 gaps
>MINIMALIST 300 MB RAM NEOFETCH
>HOTKEYS (requires 2 hands at all times)
>mouse is under utilized
>krita, gimp, blender, libreoffice, literally every program with pop up windows completely breaks your shit, half the screen is a tiny slider, other half is all of krita squeezed into a tiny spot
>extremely annoying to use 2 monitors with
>status bar glitches out telling you it is the wrong time, gotta restart x
>no nothing
>hotkeys conflict with blender, krita, vim, really everything
>you get that extra bit of screen space from no window bars and no taskbars
>everything is annoying and manual and requires reading autistic arch wiki articles on udev to mount a fucking flash drive
>xsetwacom stylus 14 1240 2141 and sudo cryptsetup mount /dev/sdc3 /mnt and other horseshit because no control panel gui so you gotta look up the commands and trial and error until you get it right

I use manjaro cinnamon trust me its as good as it gets

I haven't made more than like 10 mouse clicks this week
It's actually pretty nice a lot less movement for the hands and my touch typing has improved a lot
Tiling wm is great, but honestly if I had to say whether or not I'm actually significantly more productive with one is probably say no, but my work has gotten many times more autistic

KDE is crazy overkill. It tries to do everything differently and it turns out poorly

GNOME is megabloat. Avoid

Xfce is lightweight and flexible, and can simulate Windows- or macOS-like environments. Not the best, many hate it, but I think it can be good with some ricing effort. Bonus, some distros (e.g. Manjaro) come with Xfce pre-riced

MATE is popular and supposedly good. Never tried it, cannot confirm

If I recall correctly, LXQt is the lightestweight out there. You could run that on a potato, but it's not beautiful either

moderately accurate

KDE/Plasma
>Most Customizable
>Best pretty effects
>Good High resolution scaling
>Good to very good tier applications (Kontact/Kmail is meh, everything else is great)
>Kwin can do wobbly windows
>Supports wayland
>Sometimes annoying to configure
>Sometimes clashes with Nvidia drivers

GNOME3
>Well thought-out Keyboard-driven workflow
>Evolution is god-tier email client, other apps are ok
>Can be slow on older systems
>Not very customizable
>Runs like garbage if you have too many extensions
>Industry standard for RHEL workstations and Ubuntu (sort of)

XFCE
>Fast
>Customizable
>Takes forever to get looking nice
>Good applications for a slower PC

LXDE
>Depreciated, don't use this

LXQT
>Same as XFCE but less customizable, better looking, and with better applications
>Extremely lightweight

MATE
>Very lightweight
>Very customizable
>Not many effects
>Good fractional scaling
>Lots of green
>Muh Windows 7, muh GNOME2, muh Unity7 is very easy to acheive
>Faster than GNOME, not as fast as XFCE

Budgie
>GNOME3, but with a windows-esque layout
>Not that customizable
>Only on some distros
>Overall pretty enough

Pantheon
>Beautiful by default
>Good applications
>Mac rip-off workflow
>Only on one distro (soon Fedora too)

Deepin
>Best looking DE hands-down
>Hope you love spyware
>A bit buggy
>I hope you can read chinese
>Overall not the worst

Cinnamon
>I don't know why anyone uses this

I have no idea what XFCE is or does sorry.

I'll just fix KDE

>god tier file manager
>very buggy but you can work around it
>support for nvidia cards stupid and you have to noodle around for some time until you get it to be acceptable

>xfce
>good but has a dated look (themes can somewhat fix that but still look incoherent most of the time)

Why being made by a SJW changes anything? If it's free as in freedom and works well, there's nothing wrong with it.

I wish identity politics would stay out of open source. Lately the right has been every bit as bad as the left about this, but fuck both of them.

Anyone who unironically uses the terms "SJW", "micro-aggression", "femi-nazi", or "rape culture" is a fucking troglodyte.

This

i dont program, i just use executable programs for media, why would i want to use linux?
why would i want to work 9x harder for the same thing?

Xfce
>does most stuff you take for granted for windows, like managing screens, mounting devices, etc
>customizable af, take its time to look good tho
>200mb ram usage idle
>all DE apps have full gui as well as CLI interfaces
