Dell Latitude 5590

Just got this as a new work laptop. Is it based?

>i7-8650
>16 GB RAM
>256GB M.2
>1080p IPS touchscreen

I'm liking it so far. My home laptop is 10 years old, and thinking maybe this one would be worth buying for personal use.

p IPS touchscreen

meme res and meme touch capability.

1. you will never use the touch
2. 1440p is the MINIMUM resolution in 2019.

>not quoting properly
>using "meme" as a descriptor
>literal reddit spacing
get the fuck out of here, faggot
>256GB M.2
is it sata-based or nvme?
the latitude line is good but usually overpriced, so if you got it through work, then good on you, enjoy

>1. you will never use the touch
True. I don't even want to touch that clean new screen.

>2. 1440p is the MINIMUM resolution in 2019.

Fuck. Really? I don't think that would work too well on a 15.6" screen, or my two 27" monitors hooked up to the dock.

1440p is more of a "meme" resolution than anything else you can buy nowadays.
there's no push for 1440p
only a push for 4k and psuedo4k (1800p, 2160p).
no one gives a fuck about 1440p.
97% of people are on 1080p (or lower, actually)
touch is pointless and a waste of money
but 1440p is even stupider than touch
why bother with M.2 eh ? any SSD would do.
on top of that the 8650 will have a big problem with overheating if you do anything important with it. thermals and power delivery are shit on that piece of shit.
granted a latitude is better than an inspirion or any cuntsumer laptops that dell has to offer, but you'll hate it sooner than you think.
elitebook only, or thinkpad.

>on top of that the 8650 will have a big problem with overheating if you do anything important with it.

Seriously? Fuck.

On my previous laptop I was doing some pretty intensive stuff in excel. Dragging down formulas on some spreadsheets would take 15-20 minutes sometimes, and it had a four year old i5.

You can just undervolt in Intel XTU by around -80 to 100mV and get 20% better performance, or lock multiplier and get lower temperatures.

Got an i5 model, it's great

My 4 years old latop is
I7 4720HQ (yes windows 98 is available)
RAM 8GB (32GB upgradable)
Battery still at 81%
TN full uniform color perfect panel
Ssd samsung 500GB

And obviously your newest 8th gen is not even 40% faster in real life work load

Tech literally staggering for years.

>TN

>>i7-8650
>IntelĀ® UHD Graphics 620
Lol

So what? I'm working here, not playing games.

> Is it based?
It should be, otherwise it wouldn't stand.

Also disable the fucking turbo, shit is useless and only rises temps

Not too much difference between the i5 8250U and i7 8650U
Both are 4C/8T, 8250U just has less cache and lower clocks (which doesn't matter since both are 15W TDP limited)

>TN
>full uniform color perfect
Choose one, and only one

I have Dell Latitude from 2015 and it's best laptop I owned, I don't have single complaint
I'm not a fan of touchscreens, as they add to weight and drain more battery, so drop it unless you really like it.
I suggest buying older model, as they are quite cheaper, unless you really need 4 core CPU and don't mind spending more money

1080p is good enough for me. You don't need any higher than that unless your hobby is photoshopping or making games.

>On my previous laptop I was doing some pretty intensive stuff in excel. Dragging down formulas on some spreadsheets would take 15-20 minutes sometimes, and it had a four year old i5.

Are you me?
Let me guess, INDEX MATCH array formulas?

Currently stuck with a i7-4600U on my work laptop, some excel sheets take forever.

>I don't think that would work too well on a 15.6" screen
1440p on such a small screen would certainly require DPI scaling to be comfortably readable
>or my two 27" monitors hooked up to the dock
No, 1440p is the *minimum* resolution you want for displays this large at typical desk work viewing distance. 1080p is too low, DPI will be too low and the image will look like crap on such big panels.

I'd get a used MacBook at around that price range. Currently running with a 2015 Macbook Pro, don't see myself upgrading for a long time. Got it for free through work.

i7-4870HQ
16GB RAM
500GB SSD
2880 x 1800 Screen

You made a great choice. I love Dell Latitudes. Had an e6420 for over 7 years before recently updating to my 7490.
