Meh.

wow gay

>Lossy to lossy conversion
Jesus Christ end yourself please.

>encode to vp9
I wish I had this much time to waste

No WebP either

been doing it for years on russian 2ch, even with sound
you got gooked pretty hard anons

I don't even remember when was the last time I bumped into a WebP

>not using AV1
>2019

I converted a few webp Chinese fapcomics on my Android tablet. I also use lossless webp for certain things because its faster and usually produces smaller files than PNG optimzation.

Yes, it's not the best idea to use a new codec right away.

Gookmoot doesnt give a shit about this place and wont change a god damned thing

Shit's way too intense for craptops and the like.

Mexican Craiglist equivalent uses WebP.
That was the last time i saw it used.

It's already stable and the only reasons not to use it are lack of support (available in all relevant desktop browsers and media players) and performance (decoding is okay on new hardware, encoding is horrid).

A few websites serve webp if the browser reports supporting them (Chrome since forever, Firefox 65+), otherwise they fallback to jpg/png. It's completely transparent, and you'll only notice it if you try to save or share the images in question.

>encoding is horrid
That's what I was talking about. I haven't tested the new Intel encoder yet, but both aomenc and rav1e are far from being usable for high quality HD content.

Decoding 10bit is only ok if you're using high end x86 CPUs and libaom. 8bit decoding is great if you use AVX2 enabled CPUs and dav1d, or just ok if you use libaom.

Basically, AV1 is not an option until dav1d gets complete assembly coverage.

cripple chan also supported vp9 with sound it since the gg days. they allow up to 16mb now. you can practically upload the entire bee movie with audio.

Shame 8gag is dead. I wish I had more VP9 porn webbums.

I downscale all my doujins to 1280x webp format to save space and zip it up. As a daily archiver, that works out fine for me

>I downscale all my doujins
user, wtf

It's not that it's intense. It doesn't even utilize the cpu properly.

>you can practically upload the entire bee movie with audio.
360p 15fps, 8kbps mono audio?

this entire site is kill.

QCIF 12fps, 8kbps 16khz mono opus. On second though, 90 minutes on a 15kbps budget even for vp9 would look terribly pixelated.

I do it too. I keep the originals, downscales are for the faplet.

>even for vp9
Nigger that shit would never look good, ever.

Why 1280x ?

1080p screen for the forseeable future. Maybe in the next 5 years I might upgrade it, but I think its fine.

Nobody uses that shit you nerd

Does anyone here notice the artifacts in VP9 and H265? To me they are more noticeable than the artifacts in VP8/H264.

That's a shit encoder's fault, or shitty encoding settings by people that don't know what they are doing, not the codec itself.

>Does anyone here notice the artifacts in VP9 and H265?
Can you elaborate? What bitrates are we talking about? What settings?
By default VP9 and HEVC look far better for low bitrate encodes and somewhat better for moderate bitrates.

all telegram stickers

what are some settings for H265 to avoid artifacts? Aside from bit rate/qmin-qmax shit.

imagine watching your encode for hours after you could have already watched the media & gone to bed. That's the true power of VP8 & VP9

is there an vp9 encoder that let's you set crf instead of bitrate? whenever i'm encoding with vp9 i get shit quality. never the case with hevc/avc.

libvpx lets you do that.

trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/VP9

lol i'm retarded
well, i guess you learn something every day

ffmpeg allows you to do that (probably via some internal hacks as libvpx only offers classic VBR, CBR and CQ).
That being said, you still need to use 2-pass encoding for it to work as libvpx's bitrate control is broken when using only a single pass.
