1) Install KDE, it's a semi-Windows experience in terms of design and usability
2) Proton can play them pretty well and Valve is committed to improve it.
3) You can migrate to WIn8 which isn't bad, but it's just 3 more years, so do both. Migrate to 8 and then to Linux, keep the partition with 8 just in case. 3 years is plenty to complete the migration.

Yeah been browsing that site at times. It will be a while (probably many months?) til I can save up and have to use an old non gaming machine til then(game machine died). I get surprised at how much actually does work and some improve on a constant basis.

Indeed it did take 2 service packs. And then it's was the best. And unlike 7 never got telemetry. Now it just werks. Also it's not Vista or 8.

Linux
Win7 cucked via telemetry.
Vista or 8, both hated
Botnet 10 (good luck with those updates destroying your fucking system twice a year, Already has to switch mine and my wife's laptops to Linux over this shit)
Or glorious XP.
Only XP and Linux are worth a shit. 7 used to be good and I'd suggest Vista improved drastically. But your options for a GOOD OS are limited.

You do know that it's rather easy to exclude the telemetry updates in 7 right? A simple good search will net you dozens of sites that give a list of updates to avoid. I'm not saying XP isn't great, but saying it's the best is subjective to be sure.

I've had similar success, but I am not the majority. Entire businesses exist just to troubleshoot this garbage series of OSes. Users shouldn't need to be experts to do basic office monkey work without breaking shit. Our MacOS and Redhat machines don't need anywhere near the same level of attention as the windows users.

POS2009 is just XP, and that's more than enough RAM. CPU wise, I don't why it shouldn't, that FLP is just XP with services disabled, I think. You can just disable them if performance is not great.

Yeah but it will be slightly slower due to IE7 shell extensions overhead, best bet is to nLite an XP install, then you get a fast machine with a lower attack surface (if you remove a ton of stuff like I do)

I have no idea what to do next year when Windows 7 support ends and eventually mainstream software drops support for it. A fuckton of family members and friends will flock to me and I have no idea how many of them are open-minded to Linux, and Linux does not cover their use cases properly (they are mostly gaymurrs and people who use still use fucking MS Office 2007).

Time waits for nobody. 7 was an (>)excellent OS that lasted a whole decade.

I've been on Linux for quite a while now, user. My problem is how to convince normies to ditch Windows 7 in favor of Linux when certain programs lose compatibility with the ol' wangblows. Remember that not a few months after Microsoft dropped support for Windows XP, Mozilla threw legacy support under the bus, and lots of other developers went the same way (even if with some workarounds, their software is perfectly executable on older systems).

I feel ya...my dual boot aside from XP is Xubuntu. And I wish normies would use Linux too and we'd get some more developer support.
But, as long as Linux insists upon the terminal and software repos that's not gonna happen. Also packages and package managers. This shit angers and confuses the normies. They want a 'click here to download' button and a 'click here to install' icon. Normies don't like shit to be anymore complex than that.
Steam/proton is a step in the right direction, but as long as Linux programs are distributed via software manager or 'please copy and paste this shit you can't understand in the terminal' then normies will continue to stay far far away.
