You've already answered your own question.

Not by itself, but its combination with smartphones was since this allowed normalfags to use it anywhere and thus made it increasingly intrusive to everyday life.

Imagine being this powerless.

Geocities was perfect why did we ever leave it

>Was social media a mistake?
Your question is too vague. A mistake in what way? Some form of social media was inevitable. It's our good luck that imageboards were imported to the West before Facebook took over the Web.

Jow Forums is the greatest invention in human history. It has literally shaped the world.

The way it was implemented definitely has had a negative impact on dialogue. Social networks are designed to keep you on their platforms for as long as possible by providing you with things that make you happy; topics you agree with and content relative to interests you like. In the case of the former, this will certainly create an echo chamber where you are not exposed to ideologies you would disagree with. Your views are reinforced by likeminded people and are never challenged.
I wholly believe the massive schism in ideologies is due to the nature of social media encouraging immersion amongst good company and making it difficult to engage in other ideologies unless you specifically look for them.

I don't know, but considering you can't give any good points to either case I know for a fact that you're a mistake.

not really, he just cleared decimal flag

>Social networks are designed to keep you on their platforms for as long as possible by providing you with things that make you happy
Not necessarily true. There has been some research suggesting that it was content that made the users angry, not happy, that was the most viral. If that really is the most viral type of content, it may be responsive for the most time spent by the users. As an amoral social network engagement-optimizing entity, your goal might be to keep the users just happy enough that they don't leave and angry most of the time. This theory would explain /v/.

I think you are making an assembly mnemonic joke, but I don't get the joke.

How is Jow Forums social media? Imageboards/forums are not social media

>inCLDuing
CLD sets the decimal mode flag to zero in 6502 asm

>denial

>what is 2ch

Got it. The 6502 is a foreign country to me. I should visit some time.

What it is is not an imageboard. 2chan is a more apt comparison.

A strange combination of cool and shit. Daily reminder to visit /prog8/, the English programming board.
agree.5ch.net/prog8/

The imageboard is the direct descendant of the (text)board. Futaba wouldn't exist without 2ch.

Not an argument.

True.

> including Jow Forums

Jow Forums is ANTISOCIAL MEDIA... if you still have any real world friends then you haven't been here long enough newfag

I find it funny that koreans are basically their jews

How does it feel knowing that the creator of steven universe is an oldfag?

If you are still a namefag posting 3DPD, you haven't been here long enough.

Imageboards are still fun though are they not?

Forums like somethingawful pre-date what you call social media. Don't forget BBS, IRC, online games, chat, messenger, and comments.

Social media as we know it is just centralization of majority of that.

People have always attention whored, centralization just makes it more pronounced.

Yes and no. It's too broad a concept to really make a definitive statement on.

We never did. That culture still exists on sites like neocities. It's just everything else around it grew way bigger.

It's a lot like those small buildings in big cities.

Yes, but SM was unavoidable shit.
SM gives too many opportunities for espionage, control, censorship, social engineering and making big money.

That really depends on what you consider "social media".
Sure you probably not used your real name, but long enough on a forum, eventually it might devolved to circlejerk where everyone knows each other.

nice AND based

You are a mistake.

those are some of the nicest digits I ever saw

Since when is Jow Forums social media?

Around the same time Twitter became an "ISP"?

I can't keep track of all these words changing meanings.

good digits

>Not necessarily true.
Yes
It is true you big ass hole

No, but the original arguments against social media were a mistake since a million shit asses like you parrot them all the time. Leave me to my Facebook activities in peace. Please listen.

I hope you enjoy the irony of people performing the imageboard equivalent of likes & shares on your comment.

>but (You)s and reply count don't count
Nice meme. Looks like the average Jow Forums user does have the self-awareness of a granite sculpture after all.

>a website or app where that gives you social simulation without having to talk to someone in person

Yeah the chans are a bit unique with the anonymity but at the end of the day it's all the same shit. You are delusional if you think Jow Forums is different from Reddit or Twitter or Instagram from a philosophical perspective

it all went downhill once normies found it.

Social media linked to your RL identity was a mistake

Anonymous or Pseudonym based forums are fine.

It's vastly different in that the anonymous posts and lack of an upvote system mean it's not a circlejerk and each post is rated based on its own individual merits.

it was always bad dude, before normies got into Jow Forums it was literally a toxic cesspool of thoughts contained in an echo chamber. Incels were a thing back then and are still the same angry guys who fap to furry porn the only difference is some of them actually believe in morality now that things around them have gotten shittier.

>rated based on its own individual merits
>69696969
>le numbers meme
4channel was doing that shit before the rest of social media started on likes and shares.
Posting about gets is against the rules on Jow Forums, but look at all the brainlets that did so in spite of that.
is right, the average Jow Forums user is completely lacking self-awareness.

u69oat!

This is a cultural dissemination from reddit and/or tumblr where you get trash can replies. It’s been so long though that it is now a valid argument. Especially in reference to the post you quoted.

It's a fucking disease. I completely disconnected from it and do not under any circumstances associate with anyone who makes it essential for themselves.
People have bubbles in which their delusions roam free, usually they get in deep if they are isolated with no external stimuli, however, back in the day spending some time outside or doing an activity would pop that bubble and you would feel anew and afresh, much like a holiday after a long period of work mentally resets you. Social media and smartphones allows that bubble a never ending presence, and it grows, festering with mental illnesses encourage by others for praise and attention, which expands their bubble, feeds their ego and adds to their arrogance. It's all fake and inflated, and if you spend enough time observing from the outside it's disgusting, nearly makes you vomit as to how vapid and detached from reality people become. Its also why they're so fucking fragile. Everything is now coated in this bubble so it never pops, and when life hits hard or they get bubble deflated by some other person's bubble, they become depressed or suicide even though materially they are absofuckinglutely not starving or dying.
It's fucking toxic, so much more toxic than just city life alone for you.
