This is a thread for talking, bragging, and begging for or about jobs in the tech industry. Whether you be a code monkey, a computer janitor, or a paid intel shill, you are welcome as long as you stay on topic.
What is your current job? What is your career goal? What advice can you give to people? What shitty meme language should you learn to get all the job offers from Silicon Valley?
I want to be spend my entire winter skiing, and be a web developer.
Nathaniel Robinson
Working as a Devops/Cloud engineer for a generic multinational fortune 500 company.
I plan to slowly transition into security, with the end goal being a position on my company's red team.
Samuel Jenkins
I've been unemployed for more than a month. I've been looking for sysadmin jobs and finding nothing, probably because I live in Indiana. That's what my degree is for (associates in server admin, minor in network infrastructure). Comcast offered me a job. 15/hr being a commtech- a cable installer. Shit job, work outside, tough metrics, bullshit bosses, solo housecalls to the hood. It's been too long without a job, and I can tell my dad wants me to gtfo of his house. Should I just take the job and leave? Is there any hope to hold onto? Or do I just swallow my pride and work for Comcast?
>Comcast offered me a job. 15/hr being bruh i have no degree and i make that money sitting on my ass, watching youtube videos
Isaiah Roberts
i dont care about your neet Jow Forums schemes. 30k is not terrible money where i live.
Jack Fisher
no i do go to work, just that you can hardly call it work
Levi Young
Please describe your job then.
Luis Perez
file clerk
really wanna swap to something in IT though, shits too boring
Blake Roberts
you arent in indiana are you? id take your old file clerk job
Henry Flores
nah, in commiefornia
Dominic Cooper
Is it a good idea if to apply for an internship if you are a freshman and barely meet the requirements?
Jack Barnes
Learn computers from a young age, learn about every part of how they work (software). You'll have enough knowledge to do a litany of jobs and you'll be irreplaceable and an indispensable part of any team.
PS: learn to use Linux, it's superior.
Alexander Scott
Time to brag. Working on an ML/Enterprise team at a big 4 tech company.
Shit is so cash. Total compensation is around $190k and I'm 23. Free breakfast, lunch, dinner. Working with and meeting interesting and talented people.
Can't hurt. Worst they can do is blacklist you for wasting their time, which will prevent you from ever getting a job. also theyll punch ur dik
Gavin Jackson
unemployed dropout who just fucked up another interview i really should kill myself already
Blake Gray
How long unemployed? What happened in the interview?
Wyatt Gonzalez
>sjw miniority quota seat fillers >interesting and talented people
Nolan Martin
>make 190k >live in studio apartment with roommate such is life in the valley
Luis Green
>spend 3 years doing fuck all in college >begin csfaggotry during my senior year >did ok in terms of grade. A/B+ student since starting but who the fuck cares >no internships because my resume was shit and i only applied to like a 100 per semester before i stopped caring >fucked up every full time interview/contact during graduating semester >mentally snapped and dropped out 2 months ago and i've been unemployed since
the interview was for a javascript job and i fucked up basic javascript like explaining what a function closure was literally nobody ever asked me language specifics in an interview before so i wasn't prepared for it. i'm a brainlet but i'm a brainlet that can still do leetcode mediums in about 30-45 minutes.
Luis Sanchez
My advice to you would be to finish up school. It'll be rough, but it's the best way to get back on track.
Eli Peterson
I know that's the easiest path and I've tried to go back this semester. I couldn't do it. I was on edge the two weeks I've been on campus. I didn't even go into one of my classes because I failed it last semester and I'm afraid to go back. I find it hard to even admit that I failed and I didn't even tell anyone about it.
I don't think things are different now and I think if I go again I'm going to fail.
Adam Lee
I haven't had a job yet and I'm 26 LOL
Michael James
I am just worried that it may have consequences in the future, this is my first time applying for an internship and I am a NEET who just returned to college. So far my first quarter is going great and I will get a +3.3GPA
If they only reject me that's fine, but if they are going to put me in a blacklist for wasting their time then I am actually scared. They are asking for basic linux sysadmin skills, python and bash.
I feel that I barely meet those requirements... and maybe I will regret not applying.
Nathan Phillips
i'm shut the fuck up and apply. you'll regret it if you don't they don't blacklist you they just put you into a rejection pile for 6 months to a year, which is when you're going to reapply anyways
python is piss easy linux literally just download ubuntu in a VM and start writing your side projects in it because developing on windows is cancer bash do above and do as much shit as possible in the terminal
if an utter waste of life like me could do all of that then so can you
Jaxson Campbell
based suicide-man gives great advice, yet is doomed to fail personally. such tragic.
Aiden Hughes
I just passed the 6 month mark in my job as a junior full-stack web dev. It's not as good or as fun as when I was just an intern here, and nobody gave a fuck what I did, but it beats any other job I've had so far (about 10). I only make 40k a year, but my bills are paid, and I have money to buy my self something nice every paycheque.
Elijah Ortiz
my advice is meaningless because it didn't work so who am i to give it? that said, most people have more potential and a less toxic mindset than me. they'll make it where i didn't
Jaxon Parker
That said, I wouldn't mind getting laid off and collecting unemployment for a bit while I do game dev on my own.
Brody Rogers
Where do you live that 40k is so livable?
Henry Cruz
Pretty much, but I'm putting away $8k a month into index funds so that's pretty nice.
Connor Ramirez
Just got myself an internship for 60000 cad at a decently large company. Feeling pretty good.
Hunter Stewart
Interview this friday, in about 48 hours for a blockchain engineer position in New York. I really don't know shit and don't know how I got here. I want to ask for 160k per annum, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna bomb this interview. Studying javascript right now and all sorts of string manipulations to try and pass this bitch.
William Smith
so 15 usd?
Anthony Morgan
what language and what do you really do
i doing AI after blockchain
Dominic Clark
Hey it's something
Benjamin Jones
Also it's 21 usd. By God Canada sucks.
Josiah Reyes
40k is god tier in all of east europe, average in west
Asher Long
doing this at the tender age of 21
Colton Miller
>mfw burgers really are expensive
Benjamin Fisher
26 - working 2 jobs (pizza delivery and graveyard data entry) while I look for a tech-related job in my small town. I'll finish my Associates in information security in the Spring.
I've been turned down by two jobs so far for "technology specialist" positions. They were essentially helpdesk++ but the pay was spectacular for a small town ($26/hr+ and union).
I just interviewed today with a manufacturing company to replace their IT director knowing full well I don't have experience for anything beyond junior anything. That and the company (750 employees, multiple plants across the USA) have a single person managing all of the networking infrastructure and applications. It would be a massive fucking job and I'm not sure I even want it to be honest, but if some boomer was able to do it for 20+ years all on his own then I could probably do it too.
What advice do you have for me for this job and other entry IT jobs? I'm comfortable with networking, virtualization, Linux cli use, hardware assembling, and the most important part - I'm not a total sperg who can't talk to people. In fact I love talking to people.
Joshua Lee
120k working in Tokyo, actually a great wage here
Jonathan Garcia
That's insane for Japan. Japanese IT salaries are generally awful. Especially if not in Tokyo. I've seen sub 30k application dev jobs advertised.
Matthew Sullivan
and how much does it cost to live there? This is coming from a non-weeb.
Easton Russell
24 here as a glorified support in faggioli italian corp basically I do every fucking bullshit task that the user doesnt know how to do. Been looking for any other it job for almost 2 years to escape this hellhole. Making $9k/yr. Depressing as fuck
Ryan Sullivan
I am trying to find a tech job I can do remotely. I have two small non school aged children I have become responsible for and that is why. I am currently studying for a Linux+ cert. What else should I look into? What would you do if you were me? I currently have a year to learn as much as I can without worrying about finding a job.
Samuel Lewis
CEO of my own company.
0 euro starting. I need another couple months to get things running properly, so in the meantime I'm looking for a real job.
Nathan Campbell
You can already do writing asignments for money on fiverr, hirewriters and iwriter in the meantime. It's not a real job, but if you are desperate for a little bit of cash. Until you find a real job.
Nathan Parker
thanks for the tip!
Michael Moore
Whats your salary user?
Aiden Morgan
Can't find a job.. got blacklisted from all the bigger firms in my city. I got a job and I couldn't do it, ever since then I can't find one
William Flores
can you live off of 9k?
James Harris
It's central europe but barely. If you want to have a basic quality of life (renting one bedroom flat and having any car) you're gonna have a damn hard time. No vacations and no savings.
Liam Thomas
> What is your current job? Jr Devops Engineer (Cloud Admin that writes Powershell, Python, and other shit) > What is your career goal? Idk I wanted to be a sysadmin or programmer at like 16 now I'm 25 and do a bit of both? I guess management at this point, but cloud is cool prob will continue with this.
Levi Taylor
Business Systems Analyst - I suggest it for people that have Good ~ Mid tier tech skills but good people skills.
Plus you could work at a consulting firm and burn out with good pay
Adam Davis
I make 80k as a tier 1.3 (junior level 3)
Zachary Rodriguez
Thanks fren - and suggestions to get started with becoming a Business Systems Analyst? Being a consultant is in my long term plan as well but it's a far more senior role.
