Windows 10 Ads

Why does a piece of software, that has ads and spies on you even when you ask it not to, cost $100?
I know it didn't cost anything to upgrade back in the day, like around 2016/17, but the point still stands.
If Linux can not have ads, and even have no spying, when it costs nothing but time to work on, why can't Win10?
Either make it gratis or no ads/spy-ware. It's literally a multi-million dollar company, why the fuck do they need more money for bloatware?

it doesnt on the new builds

Because they can, corporations are driven by money.

I myself use Linux at work and for programming at home, but if you play games with your friends (and those games aren't compatible with Linux) I recommend installing W10 LTSB 2016. Don't get your hopes up though, it mostly has the same long standing Windows bugs.

Source? Seems pretty unlikely..

Uninstall the bulkware shit?

I have zero ads in my pirated copy, maybe fuck off and suck Stallman's dick instead of shitposting here.

Bought a win7 laptop in 2011
Paid few bucks to update the win8 pro
Free update to win8.1 pro
Free update to win 10 (pro)
Never seen any ads
Just 5 clicks to stop telemetry
Find Cortana not being totally useless
Switched to edge from chrome
> OS is fine

think about it, people are literally so stupid they pay money to work for you...FOR FREE. why wouldn’t you take advantage of them?

That looks good for Windows. How?

>never seen ads
heh nice meme
>5 clicks to stop telemetry
Yes, because a closed source and non-free program you can't easily check on or modify is 100% trust worthy.

That's just the default Windows 10 desktop with no desktop icons and all the tiles removed from the Start menu.

m$, please check one box for your income strategy

[ ] paid product
[ ] 0$, sells user data
[ ] 0$, shows ads

which box did M$ check?

>5 clicks to stop telemetry
>switched from edge to chrome
Clearly you don't know what telemetry means.

How do you even pirate Windows ? You can just skip the activation process. You will get a stupid message in the right corner of the screen but you can ignore it.

You use an activator of some kind. KMSPico works for me.

>windows 10 has some removable preinstalled
Reee ads
>$1000 android device has preinstalled apps that literally cannot be removed without modifications
No problem just void the warranty to remove them

I'm very close to dropping windows, i use open source a lot of the time anyway. And it feels like linux is coming on leaps and bounds, with a lot of thanks to Valve funnily enough. I'm sure they've done a lot of the groundwork and helped convince Nvidia and AMD to improve their linux drivers.

I'm no terrorist, pedo or patent-producer so it's trust worthy enough for me
Still better than any Google/alphabet/Android/pureevil stuff (soft or hardware)
NSA and friends still can access any data even on the most secured machine whatever you do

Windows 10 is industry standard. Windows 10 needs to run on almost all hardware, like Linux. Windows 10 has a ton of driver support, support for special software and hardware that not even Linux has. Windows has also gotten into the IoT meme, so that's even more hardware support.

Windows 10 is the most normie version of Windows yet. It has Candy Crush and Skype and shit pre-installed, because guess what, those are extremely popular apps. It needs telemetry, because people are fucking retarded and give the dumbest information when it comes to their computers not working, ask anyone in IT. Telemetry gives them the info they need when crashes and failures happen, at least more than whatever dumb Windows users will give you. They have forced updates, because people are fucking morons and refuse to update their systems, and I don't mean companies refusing to update their software, even the average joe Windows moron doesn't update his system and falls for Wannacry months after that vuln was patched.

Macs and Linux will go down the same road in the future.

Why would you buy a phone with such a dumb warranty policy? You know there are android phones that don't do this right?

Similarly, there are OSs that don't have ads preinstalled do this.. such as all of them.

Nice defeatist attitude you got there, I wonder who could profit from such an outlook?

the message will be over everything, even goymes and movies. it becomes pretty annoying after a while

>buy 2018 laptop
>no way to install 7
>shitty linux drivers
>10 is shit and spyware but you have no other choice
i want 2010 back

Attached: 1138961386702.png (176x232, 21K)

Don't wanna be mean but:
1. That is NOT why the telemetry is there, nor is it used to help diagnose problems.
2. Forced Windows updates are not for security purposes and Linux wont go down the same path for one simple reason: security updates are already installed automatically.

There is no reason (that's in the consumers interests) to couple security updates and regular updates together.

>Yes, because a closed source and non-free program you can't easily check on or modify is 100% trust worthy.
>implying I don't route the internet through another machine running wireshark to check if there isn't any suspicious activity
also sure, maybe it's a backdoor by the NSA that allows them to screen-share my PC by port knocking the machine with a secret pattern or whatever. but I'm not a worthy enough target for them to risk revealing their capabilities. if I was doing anything remarkably subversive or illegal I'd use an air gapped machine running loonix, but I'm not so I'll risk it

It’s just amuses me the level of outrage over something that is really a non-issue, especially when compared to more egregious offenders like android OEMs can be

I get where your coming from. However, considering this product isn't free it's reasonable to expect people to judge it as they would any other product. Such as a paid movie, video game, tool, etc.

Pick one

There are debloater scripts on Windows and also software that disable things for privacy but it's been proven that nothing actually gets disabled and connections still go to microsofts servers.

So you can make it look nice but in the background you still have all the processes running that no one knows what it does.

Thank god

>being so much of a cuck that you pay to be advertised to
This isn't new. Two examples that I always think of right away are cable television and sporting events.

those arent ads dummy, theyre the preinstalled shit, you can literally right click them and hit uninstall or unpin and poof theyre gone. thought u guys were supposed to be smart or some shit

I know this is bait but- damn you nearly got me!

dang. good point, maybe forever came early

>not using vlmcsd-autokms

Windows 10 doesn't support drivers. The drivers support Windows 10.

Never seen those. I'm using N version.

I do understand the hate, you pay for software and your still getting visuals to other paid services, I can get why that’s an issue but I kinda understand why Microsoft does it.
Everyone is so used to using their phones and having native apps for everything compared to desktop where you’re always forced to use a browser or at best have a clunky desktop program that’s never updated.
With the preinstalled apps in the start menu, Microsoft is basically advertising the fact you now have native apps for all your normie services and gone are the days of being treated like a second class citizen and forced to use a browser
I’m not defending Microsoft on this as they could handle this much more elegantly but it could be much worse

This

I'm going to have to refute that second class citizen thing because the reality is services are moving more towards blurring the line between desktop and browser based programs. Consider discord, the code running on the desktop vs the browser is identical and the experience is just as good. This makes a lot of sense from a developers point of view too.

As for the preinstalled apps in the start menu, Microsoft is clearly doing this to increase market share of their own services (instead of a competitors) and not because they want to improve the user experience. For example: Have you ever tried to switch from Edge to a different browser? This is a (completely unsurprising) anti-consumer practice.

In the case of things like Candy Crush, they are getting paid by third parties to ship these products. Much like OEMs are paid to load Windows laptops with bloatware.

>Consider discord, the code running on the desktop vs the browser is identical and the experience is just as good
Regardless of the underlying technology, it's ultimately better to have dedicated apps. Even Discord on web has it's limitations compared to it'd desktop app counterpart.

>As for the preinstalled apps in the start menu, Microsoft is clearly doing this to increase market share of their own services (instead of a competitors) and not because they want to improve the user experience
A Microsoft made OS wants you to use other Microsoft made services
What else would you expect them to do?

>Have you ever tried to switch from Edge to a different browser? This is a (completely unsurprising) anti-consumer practice.
Funny enough Microsoft in this one instance is trying to create a somewhat better user experience
Edge has had a shitton of work done to it as to have a tighter integration with the OS and one of the advantages they tout is better battery life and one thing they hoped to achieve with Edge is enough feature parity to have Edge's engine replace the underlying chrome instances for apps like Discord as to help manage resources more effectively, both of these things would end up making it better for the user

>In the case of things like Candy Crush, they are getting paid by third parties to ship these products
Yeah this is bull I can't argue about that

>dedicated apps
I don't think even Microsoft is pushing for this to be honest with you, look at their UWP platform. And Progressive Web Apps are being pushed by other big software companies.

>wants you to use other Microsoft made services
As I said I'm not surprised by MS pushing their own products but the fact remains it IS anti-consumer.

>Edge
I wonder what will happen to these improvements once they switch to using Chromes engine and abandon EdgeHTML. Regardless, putting multiple shameless barriers up to stop competition is classic anti-competitor practice and only stands to benefit Microsoft.

all

>I wonder what will happen to these improvements once they switch to using Chromes engine and abandon EdgeHTML
Microsoft has conceded to chrome but instead of being another chrome clone, Microsoft is working with Google to bring in the same goals of EdgeHTML to chromium
This is really a double edge sword because now you have one less browser engine and more market share goes to chromium but at the same time MS doesn't have to fight anymore to get people to use there browser

Another thing, why is it so fucking bloated? Remember when you had your first PC and after a few years you had all this random shit in program files or on the desktop, plus a bunch of viruseses most likely running in the background?
Windows 10 is like a computer you want to wipe clean to get all the shit off of it, except as soon as you install it. From the moment you put it on you have 2 versions of candy crush, cortana crap and god knows what else.
I don't even know what the fuck is on the thing. You buy a Windows PC and you don't even know what the fuck is on it, even when it is brand new and should only have a few defaults. It's so bloated, like your grandpas PC full viruses from porn he wants you to fix, but you can't clean it because it starts that way.

>it costs nothing but time to work on
That can be a deal breaker for people who depend on a computer for work and whose time has a high opportunity cost. Just think about how much a high earner could lose being distracted from their money-making projects by a software problem. $100 and tolerating a hostile operating system can be a small price to pay in some people's eyes.

It's hilarious how Jow Forums doesn't know how to do the most basic stuff on Windows and instead of learning they blame the OS. It's like people that switch to Linux and don't know how to do something and instead of learning they complain about linux.
The same excuses are used to justify both cases.

you shouldn't do extra steps to get rid of ads on a paid OS

>accounts
literally what is 4pass

No OS should ship with something as bad as Xserver, but most linux distros do and linux users even defend it.

not a problem on LTSB/LTSC

>no way to install VII

Wat just buy pic/related from amazon m8

Attached: Windows 7 Install Disk.png (543x543, 292K)

>Why is windows windows?
That's just how it works. If you want something that has no ads and has no bloat and is fully customizable, that option exists. It's called linux. What you're doing is like going into a grocery store and saying "fuck these bananas, why aren't they round and red?" Just buy an apple and call it a day, then.

I'm a yellow jacket in france. You don't know ehen your gvt will phydicslly turn on you.
You slways have a duty to hide your perso al information.

LTSC doesn’t gave this problem. Also:
>paying for Windows

Yes it does.
~Source I setup 15 of them last week

based

Telemetry can only be lowered to basic in non-Enterprise builds. You can't fully turn it off unless you have Enterprise.

Yeah, this is why the Chinese government wanted a version with less botnet. oh wait...

It wasn't even half as bloated prior to 10.

The install size became huge after Vista.

>Why does a piece of software, that has ads and spies on you even when you ask it not to, cost $100?
Because people are willing to pay it.

>It's literally a multi-million dollar company, why the fuck do they need more money for bloatware?
Because their loyalty is to the stock holders, not the users.

Wait so how does Linux make money

Because Unka Bill is no longer the richest man in the world and that was his only claim to fame.
The charity thing wasn't buying him the redemption he hoped for.
His beloved company is circling the plug hole, its products mere travesties of their former selves.

How do you actually remove tiles on start?

Nevermind. Found it out

>You can't fully turn it off unless you have Enterprise.
You can't fully turn it off in Enterprise/Education either, unless you disable services. The telemetry level is "security" and not "none".

A lot of Devs support a project for their employer. A lot of employers require certain software to work so pay Devs. Some people just don't need money any more as they have enough, those people support it for free. Some people do it in their spare time, those people don't get laid.

ama

Bull fucking shit Pajeet Goldstein.

You're not posting from it right now, are you?

Are you Steve Tiberius Gibson?

XP is fine as long as you’re firewalled and use a decent browser.

It doesn't. It's literally free if you paid for your W7, it takes the key.
Microshit went full jewgle and you gotta be a retard to pay for it.

You mean, you have to be a retard to USE it.

Because you dumbfuck goyim eat up every shit MS pushes out of their curry ridden ass.

You could use Enterprise, you could use LTSx, you could use free OS' like GNU/Linux, *BSDs but nononono you buy 10 home/pro and come to Jow Forums to cry about ads (which are in win10 since it was released so its not even new).

I use whatever works for the current job, fuck off with your tribalism.
If you need W10 for some reason, it's free if you're not a retard, case closed.

no but even if i did it would have been ok as i don't post with js on

Wrong, that’s like saying that you’ll suck a dick for crack. Nobody needs Windows just like nobody needs to suck dicks.

>If you need W10 for some reason
you don't
there is literally no reason to use it

Its GNU/Linux faggot.

Yeah I've figured your casual decisionmaking involves sucking a dick, but for me it's like picking a tool from toolbox.

>It's literally a multi-million dollar company, why the fuck do they need more money for bloatware?
>corporations are driven by money.

This is true, let me explain why:
>Shareholder primacy
Corporations are obligated, by law, to make as much profit (and therefore dividends) as reasonably possible.
You see sonnie, there was once a great man named Henry Ford, who hated Jews. One day Henry decided that he'd made enough money to keep himself and his family well fed for the rest of eternity so he chose to sell his cars cheaper than he otherwise could have, and voluntarily payed his workers wages that were well above that which was standard at the time.
The "Dodge Brothers", who would later go on to manufacture Dodge cars, took exception to Henry's new business strategy as they owned a 10% share of Ford motor company and any reduction of profit meant a reduction of dividends for them.
They took Henry to court.
They won.

Corporations have been fucking up the planet on the relentless quest for every last penny of possible profit ever since.

>picking a shoddy tool which spies on you and reboots on a whim
Windows 10 is not a work friendly OS.

>gwern.net/Complement

I'm eastern European and never had ads or functioning Cortana. The OS basically never actively bothered me. Maybe try changing your country to a European one?

I work VFX and a lot of programs only run on win. I hate it.
Had to install 7 for a job recently. It's so good compared to 10.
What happens when support for 7 stops? No more drivers? No more security updates?

Anything VFX related will also be on a Mac. Apple’s shit but they are much better than MS. You should look into Hackintosh.

Same here, haven't seen a single ad since updating from Win8.1 on my work laptop. I'm also using Win10 on my personal PC as a volunteer since the first builds came out, same there. Sure, I did receive some shitty games at first but just uninstalled them and that's it.

>What happens when support for 7 stops?
not gonna be soon, xp still has support supposedly ends in april
>No more drivers?
no, they are from novidia or whatever you have ask them
>No more security updates?
yes, ms can't wait to get you on their newest thing

I run multiple Macs too. There are definitely some jobs that a Mac won't suffice for. Same for every operating system. I'm switching between everything multiple times every day.
>Just use gimp

this
use their os x and all the adobe shit you need but not their shit hardware

just use 7 forever who cares, don't have it connected to a network

Gimp has been used in hundreds of major movies, user. One of its biggest supporters is a consortium of studios.

Haha yeah I have gimp installed on every system desu same with blender but there are ends to their capabilities.
I do this sometimes because of reasons, but I'm always way faster on a legit system that has access to a browser for research.

Meant to quote this anom bout the gimp thing^

I'm thinking between using 8.1 and 10.

I know for a fact that 8.1 is more stable overall. 10 is manageable (I need to update my sound drivers and do some shit so that it doesn't stutter at times), seems slightly faster on games overall, DX12 actually makes a substantial difference on my machine for a title or two. I've been about a year on 8.1 (2017) with 0 troubles though. It was absurdly stable for what anyone thinks about Windows.

you dont need Jow Forums pass, but you will need an account in soon future
