That's the thing though, websites aren't websites anymore. Most "sites" are full-fledged web applications. If you look at frontend libraries like React and Redux, you'll realize they've dropped the "site" metaphor completely.
I write web apps for living, and the only difference between a desktop app and a "website" is that passing links to an application state is not easy.
