Mail. But we have never had to do that and never will. Yes, we used to have to send disks through the post, but that is still done today in some capacity with flash drives.

I recall my mother howling to the moon at her 30s, some cheerful and shitty joke. Neither my sister or me would do this nowadays.

Things are pretty fucked right now, all nostalgia aside. The attitude of society has shifted for sure, even compared to the mid 2000s. In my eyes it all started to go down with the recession in the 2008, then the mike brown shooting happened and we started to get more divided, then Trump happened and we're more divided than ever. Pretty sure its all part of a script tho, once a democrat gets into office and reverses some of Trump's policies all will be right with the world for the 8 years or whatever then the cycle will restart all over again.

When I was a kid I didn't know Azn was meant to mean "Asian" and thought it was a gaming clan. I came across someone with Azn in their name who was a dick, so I ended up telling people how much I hated the Azns without realizing I sounded like a huge racist.

What I miss the most is using computers and accessing the internet without worrying about being tracked/profiled/spied/red flagged/etc.
The internet in the 90s and early 00s was a lawless zone with rampant viruses and scammers everywhere but I felt way safer browsing it back then.

An actual progress in computing. In 1992 you played Wolfenstein 3D and 4 years later you played Quake. In 1990 you had a 286, in 2000 you had Pentium 3 and 3D accelerators.
Today you can have 10 years old HW and it's still sufficient for most tasks (e.g. Core 2 Quad, 8 GB RAM, HD 4850).

i can do my 3D CAD work reasonably well on a 5yo laptop i picked up for $30, and i have an 11yo laptop which is also comfortable to use for most tasks
contrast to the 90's and start of the 2000's, where if you wanted to play a new game and your hardware was 2 years old, it would either be unplayable or just straight up not work at all
and even what we now call basic tasks were things that needed certain hardware back then
playing an mp3? can't do that on anything older than the mid-90's
playing a dvd? on a mid 90's machine you'd need an mpeg2 decoder card, only by the end of the 90's were cpus fast enough to do it without one

I think what I hate most about modern technology is that it is boring and mundane (both culturally and physically) but we're still treating it all like everything is still exciting and "the latest and greatest" is always some huge advancement. Pretty much all advancements these days feel like they're just ways of coping with increasing bloat and shit. The reason we need SSDs for OSs isn't really because of the throughput, but because OSs are so bloated that such throughput is necessary. Same with memory.
