I used to sell refurb hardware. But I had to lie and claim used because people doesn't like refurb.

fuck no. I don't want a component that has been handled by some fatass who doesn't wash his hands

It's a gamble but most of the time you have to consider what usually ends up failing first like HDD, RAM, MB, and the PSU. Things like CPUs, GPUs rarely fail. I generally would not trust the HDD and immediately replace it with a new SSD.

You should do 24 hour burn in tests to find out if anything is borked just to be safe like a prime95 + furmark stress test after changing the TIM on the CPU/GPU and dusting the heatsinks.

for my old systems yes.
Usually ram

Yup. I bought almost all my current equipment in the aftermarket. Including stuff like gaming consoles and household appliances.

are you speaking from experience? RAM and CPUs usually last forever, while GPUs, MBs, HDDs don't last as long; on average of course. at least that's what I've experienced over the years.

What if the hardware was stolen or mishandled

Yeah. Turned out ok mostly. I won't buy used RAM/PSUs though.

yes, when my video card gets old I buy the same model second hand and go SLI for another year
