I kinda vaguelly remember liking phoenix because it was kinda like mozilla but all the extra shit removed. You know just being a fucking browser ie. application which fetches files over HTTP and renders HTML nothing more nothing less

Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 were the good ones. 3.0 was slow, bloated and hogged too many hardware resources. It had great marketing campaign thanks to the 'Firefox download day'. In my experience with the 3.0 version It wasn't usable till 3.6 onwards. Firefox 4.0 and beyond was really bad until quantum, but it was too late... 5+ years too late. The company focused on becoming self righteous and feminist instead of caring about the browser, that's how they ended with a 5% market share.
