Is ultrawide meme dead?

is ultrawide meme dead?
all the available popular models are 2-3 years old but still expensive af
pretty much nothing happens if like manufacturers lost interest in this area
i wanted to buy one, but i don't want to put money into a dead end standard

What about it?

I have one myself and i personally love it.

Alot of ppl boast online about how much they have, but in reality most ppl can't afford spending $500 on a ultrawide monitor setup.

I feel like the biggest problem with ultrawide is that it's really different and basically impossible to just try out. You've got to invest way too much money to discover whether or not it really works for you, so why bother taking the risk when you can go for a more tradtionally ratioed monitor?

21:9 is a meme. 32:9 seems like a decent replacement for two regular 16:9 monitors

It has always been just a dumb meme. Vertical resolution is one that really matters when you're trying to get some work done.

>21:9 is a meme
I like my 21:9 full screen for film and games.

Ultrawide is the most based res. Will always admire it even though I'm staying on 16:9.

I like 21:9, though it has its disadvantages. If I want a second monitor I don't really have desk space. Gaming and film are objectively better on 21:9 than 16:9. Productivity sucks IMO but that's just me. Some people like having two short windows side by side.

I feel like those ultrawide monitors are only really useful for gaming. For any other kind of work, with the possible exception of photo editing, having two monitors is fine, and cheaper as well.

That's ultra ultra wide. Normal ultra wide is like 21:9

21:9 is based and redpilled

They're god tier for movies, decent at productivity (I use a shitload of wide excel sheets) although I've still found myself adding on a second vertical monitor, and dog shit / unsupported tier for games.

Couldn't recommend one at the current prices though, definitely luxury.

What on Earth is on his monitor?

Not really that much of a meme honestly. It's better for some things, worse for some others.

+Games that support it look fucking great
-Games that don't support it are buggy or require you to fiddle with something, also still 1080p quality while losing performance

+Movies look fucking great
-TV shows do not

+Video or sound editing tools are nice to use on it
-Image editing tools aren't

+Enough space for side by side windows to be kinda square and comfortable to use
-If you don't do this kind of shit why even bother

Is 21:9 1440p the new sweetspot? Im using a 4 year old 21:9 1080p.

I'll get one when this shitty hobby starts making me money

If you can afford to rotate Nvidia's highest Ti, yeah.

No. 3840x1600 is.

>into a dead end standard
It's a niche. Always was, probably always will be.

I have a 144hz IPS 21:9 monitor and it's the best peripheral purchase I've ever done.
I will never go back to 16:9, using my laptop is now painful.
I will probably upgrade to a 1440p or 1600p ultrawide in a few years time. Everyone who's come home and tried my setup said they were very impressed by the monitor and would love to have one, a couple of friends have bought one and now they swear by it too.

bump

Imagine having kids and telling yourself you can't afford this stuff.

its gay. they are way too wide but have less height than a old crt and that means lots of scrolling if you want to read something.

Trap porn

would buy if it had at least 21" height but the current models are probably less than 15"

>-Image editing tools aren't
Why? I love the extra real estate to fit in tools and panels

did you guys ever think that streaming media could lead to non standard aspect ratios being supported? like they could have a 1:2 movie source file and then just stream the cropped versions for dif aspect ratios to you and leave the stuff you cant see out of the stream to save data.? we could potentially see the "overscan" idea come back.

I think it could be keno desu. 16:9 might have its days numburred

You mean the LG one? I got 3 defective units in a row, they all had serious ghosting. Compare it with a 144hz TN, you'll notice that the TN is exponentially sharper in motion. CRT, even more.

>cropped versions
You fit it and fill out the sides or letterbox with black if there is too much room. Watching cropped movies feels like driving a car with binoculars.

Mine was perfect out of the box, and coming from a 144hz TN monitor I didn't notice it being blurry in motion.

Yes, UW is the new 16:10, it might of had its advantages but nobody is buying them because 16:9 is still the standard that games and other applications are made for.
