when will teenagers get over having faux nostalgia for the hideously shit aesthetics of operating systems they never used?
Hudson Cox
Mac OS X
Jeremiah Barnes
Windowmaker.
Grayson Reed
OS 9 is more aesthetic than both though
Andrew Ward
Windowmaker. You’ll remove it after three days of use when you realize how unintuitive it is and that you fell for the nostalgia meme.
Jeremiah Morgan
This
I once installed on xfce a dockbar with next applets because they look so aesthetic
I uninstalled them in a day because they were completely unintuitive and useless
Dominic James
github.com
Only works on CentOS though.
Isaiah Lewis
It's already a meme in 98/99.
Angel Harris
That's sort of AmigaOS 3.x aesthetic though
William Williams
Amiga is peak comfy
Oliver Sanchez
I use Window Maker as a daily driver because it uses less moving parts than OpenBox.
Might try a raw FVWM later. Or bspwm, though I hate i3.

The new LXQt DE has a "Windows" style that looks like the old Win95 interface.
Parker Butler
It just shows how "innovating" jobs really was

WindowMaker is a look-alike window manager.
There's also GNUStep for the full desktop environment, but the documentation sucks so much it blows and it's a hassle to get running correctly.
Easton Barnes
WMaker; you're welcome! ;)
Camden Rodriguez
you can use windowmaker along with gnustep apps (most of them suck)
Carter Price
It's a NEXTStep screenshot

I honestly get a massive boner whenever I see FVWM. I can't help but think that to configure it on my own I need a PHD in nanotechnology after all my attempts at setting it up.
I like the looks and how light & fast it is, but the configuration system really fucking needs a modernization if it wants more users or to remain relevant at all.
Charles Fisher
just X11/Xorg

>that scaling
Why is qt such a joke?
Composing a graphical interface with QT is a sure-fire way to make it ugly.
Caleb Rivera
CDE or Maxx?
Easton Wilson
CDE just because it's not propietary
Hunter Wilson
NeXT>CDE>4dwm
But it's close
