Get an ultrawide with freesync or gsync. Don't know what's your budget, but you can't really go wrong with them.

maybe there weren't a decade ago, but now you can get a 1440p 144Hz IPS monitor for pretty cheap

You gain absolutely nothing by having a 1440p monitor but you gain more than double the amount of frames when using 144Hz, some say it's a huge advantage in games but I personally just think games feel much smoother.

Games definitely feel another at 144hz, it's not 'impossible to go back' but you will definitely notice it if you do. I use my computer for work too and 1440p is the best for productivity.. so I went with both.
