drumpf > : (

Expansive (read: outdated) infrastructure and widespread provider monopolies in lesser populated areas.

Then again they're not the only highly developed nation with god-awful internet. Fistbump if there are Germans here that get what I'm talking about.

we make more, we also have a lot of empty areas of the us that aren't well populated but still need infrastructure. Those in the cities tend to end up subsidizing this development.

Besides, the more well populated areas, especially areas with tech industry, tend to have decently fast internet that for the american market, is very competitive.

My old address where i grew up in the midwest currently has 40mbps for $110/month.

My current address has 1gbps fiber for $80/month.

I pay $80 for gigabit in the USA

Corrupt local governments in cahoots with monopolistic providers with no oversight from the public who are more satisfied by treating the low level customer service rep like shit.

So it would need some more competitive ISPs ?

80$ ? Wow that is HUGE, i could get two time 10Gb/s internet with that... If my home network could support it.

lmao bullshit, no current residential ISP in france currently offers 10gbps.

It's $80 with TV and phone service as well.

I live in rural area in France and pay 40€ for symmetrical gigabit

Free (yes it's rhe isp name) DOES actually offer a 10Gb/s plan for 40€/month, it's really recent tough

Because freedom isn't free, enjoy your "freedom of expression" that can be limited in the interest of "democracy"

Well, i did not expect this

It's brand new, and it's also 10G-EPON which in reality delivers about 8gbps, not 10gbps.

Also, 10gbps download speed with 400mbps upload? Embarrassing upload. I get symmetric gigabit with 800mbps+ steady upload.

When the internet infrastructure was still in development there were no big communication-related companies in your country, such as comcast and at&t. These companies are the main reason why internet in US is so bad.

Sadly, alot of ISP here offers asymetrical internet, arguing on the fact that a normal person won't need "that much upload"

Pretty sad considering my ISP is delivering symmetric gigabit on GPON (2.4/1.2gbps)

10G-EPON is much newer than GPON, so they certainly have the capability of providing that upload speed if they wanted to.

Thankfully my ISP is upgrading to NG-PON2. 10/10gbps per wavelength of light, with 4 wavelength usable now and the ability to upgrade that to 8 wavelengths.

So total capacity of 80/80gbps per fiber strand, with each customer getting 10/10gbps.

I get 1gbps up and down for $65 a month. Not sure how this compares with the rest of the country, but I suspect that mine's on the lower side

The average income of a Europoor is like 1/3 an American.

I know that most Americans would find our salaries horrifyingly low and 3rd world, but that doesn't explain the internet costs away. Is it simply because we have higher population density in most european nations, or is infrastructure more expensive in the USA?

Google fiber is like $50 for 1g lmao Pierre

Wtf, I have verizon where I live (east coast US) and its $50 a month for the cheapest slowest internet package they had with no tv and no phone.

That's correct.

That's how much just the cheapest internet package is for me as well.

100/100mbps for $39.99/month, going up to $55/month after 2 years.

Just gigabit is $79.99/month for new customers locked in for 2 years.

As an existing customer for blackfriday, they had new customer pricing if you renewed a contract that was expired, or expiring within the next 6 months.

So for the same price as just gigabit alone, I got locked in for 2 years gigabit and TV and phone service.

I live in the middle of nowhere in a third world shithole and I can somehow get cheaper internet than Americans. It's insane.

>implying americucks arent 3d world

I don't know man, they are the wealthiest country in the planet.

move to europe. north europe if possible
you'll thank me later

i pay $35/month for up to 6mbps. I get 2mbps.

Whose dick do you have to suck to get an AR15 in those parts?

monopolies

you mean the 0.1% are the wealthiest people on earth?

Polfag here, I'm playing about 7$ (26zł/26PLN) for 40Mb/40Mb.

>symmetrical
What isp offers that?

In Finland atleast, if you have fulfilled your military duty, getting a semi-auto should be pretty easy, if you can show that you actually use it for maintaining your skills.

extremely based

knet

Gigabit in Romania it's about 60 RON (1euro = 4.7 ron ) and it have PPPOE and dynamic IP.

1gb/1gb here 100 eur

Berlin here. Every connection here is so terribly slow.

Because no one wants you on the street, user.
Please enjoy your 4k porn while Abdul is enjoying your women.

Why can't big European and Asian ISPs enter the American market and undercut, thus breaking up the monopolies?

In Croatia, this is considered High Speed and Modern

Because the US is big as fuck and the infrastructure required would cost tens of billions.

Allowing Arabs and Chinamen to operate network and telecommunications infrastructure on your own land is bad for national security.
