I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell

normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system

That's pretty unusual user, you should probably restart your PC and check your GPU drivers if it's nvidia. Also what distro are you using? Kubuntu works fine for me.

I'm using Gentoo. Always has been one of the distros close to KDE, but I get why you might not want that on an old laptop or something.

Looks less like a Linux problem and more like a GPU failing problem. Only time I've ever seen shit like that is right before a GPU shits the bed, or an onboard GPU uses bad RAM as video memory. Though it COULD be a Linux problem by way of a shit driver, I would consider stress testing the GPU or running memtest a few hours.

I want to argue against this. I really do. I've been an AMD fanboy since k6, but the fact is... I switched to Intel and Nvidia in November because I got a great deal on a gaymen laptop and everything just werks. I've always had to struggle and fight with AMD to get everything working properly. When I got it working, it worked alright, but it would take some real fighting to get there. This machine has just done as it is told when it's told. No back talk.
