How much should a decent ThinkPad X220 be priced at?

Attached: 1524761541929.jpg (1280x720, 75K)

read the op, the dankpads link is fairly accurate

got memed into librebooting my x200. Having some issues now with the thinkpad open in a dockingstation connected to a second monitor. it doesnt boot. has anyone had the same issue and is there a fix?

While someone here MIGHT be able to help you with that, I would ask in their IRC and the subreddit

Did you have to buy a separate battery for your used thinkpad? Considering these machines are like 10+ years old, naturally their come-with batteries have gone to shit. Should I buy an official Lenovo or chink one like pic related?

Attached: 1530556160699.jpg (500x500, 38K)

I use an aftermarket battery from Amazon and it has the same if not better performance as is reported by those using Lenovo batteries. Just go for aftermarket it is REALLY not worth buying new especially for the older systems.

it's almost here bros

I need a 2in1 convertible Laptop.
Thinking of buying a thinkpad L380(new).
Should I?

Forgot to say its a thinkpad L380 yoga

Anything that's not a T\W\X series Thinkpad isn't recommended here for a reason, since it would be like buying just a run of the mill consumer laptop.

It is an awesome little machine, I would if the price is right and it has the features you are looking for.

Not everyone needs to fall for the T, W, X, P meme, but I understand. It is important that you are buying the laptop for its features and not because of fanboyism. Thinkpads are nice and all but they are the Macs of the autistic redditor community these days. And nice backslashes, you use Windows?

Any distro/DE recommendations for muh new X230?

I wanna try Gentoo with kde and probably Fedora

Attached: 1549950669830.gif (500x373, 1020K)

Yes I need the tablet mode so I can take notes with the stylus, but also a decent laptop, durable and good for programming
No I will install Linux on it.
Main reason I want a thinkpad is because I hear they are durable and good with linux, not because I am a nostalgic fanboy(well maybe only a little bit)

>Not everyone needs to fall for the T, W, X, P meme

Maybe so, but the L380 Yoga has the typical consumer Ultrabook build quality instead of the stronger frame on the standard Thinkpads. Though servicing and replacing parts is significantly better than on some consumer Ultrabooks and the overall build quality isn't too bad but the X380 is significantly better.

And don't forget this is a thread about dank memepads. If he needs a regular 2in1 convertible laptop he could have chosen a different one and asked in another place.

>And nice backslashes, you use Windows?
Running it on my living room HTPC.

> the X380 is significantly better.
Yes this was my other option, but it is quite more expensive.
So you are saying if I can afford it I should go for the X380?
But you can only install 16GB of ram in the X380 but 32GB in the L380.

>So you are saying if I can afford it I should go for the X380

If you really want a newer model 2in1 then yes, and i doubt you're really going to need more than 16GB's of RAM on a ULV processor or currently on a laptop in general.

Arch honestly, just works with top tier support. Although gentoo should work just fine.
I haven't had great experiences with fedora, nothing concrete it just felt off whenever I tried it

Have an opportunity to buy a x230 with classic keyboard mod, ips mod, 6-cell/9-cell/slice battery and fairly good overall condition for $300. Am I significantly overpaying for the convenience of all that being done already?

i guess i have to put it in the trash now

x220 looks better
cyka

what the heck is ips mod?

Nice

thats up to you

Do all X200t have IPS? Some sources say they do some say they don't. I want to buy one on ebay and the seller isn't responding to my question.

idk, if you're looking for a daily driver go debian imo

but if you're looking for a fun gimmick then sure go gentoo or arch

If you want all those features, why the fuck not just get an x250?

>1080p IPS
>better battery life
>better build quality
>SSD on most models

Honestly that's up to you. I'd say it's a fair deal however

x250 is ugly af though

hey look it's this faggot sperging about his x250 again

Hi I'm the faggot speeding about muh t430, it's so good, even when I don't have a 900p screen nor a 9 cells battery and run with a dual core and the Chiclet keyboard

Sperging*

Where did you buy the t450 touchpad? Ali seems to have a few

my bad

I NEED HELP ASAP Jow Forums !
i just bought a thinkpad from an ebay account i had for years and looking at fedex tracking it's going to the wrong country!
is the "to" in picrelated the final destination or just a part of it?
PLEASE HELP!!

Erlanger KY is Ebay's global post center.

So you are living out of USA? Was listing saying "eBay Global shipping program"?

yes!
oooff thank god
thank you anons
i was really worried

So yeah. Seller ships your package to Kentucky and there Pitney Bowes reships your package.

weird, why don't they ship it all the way with fedex?
cost?

it will never match the beauty of a thinkpad

should I buy W530 or x230?

I am working at civil engineering contractor, I use AutoCAD quite a lot but only 2D, I travel a lot and I need a compact and cheap laptop, but good graphics card (if necessary)

shiny

should i buy from minifree?
minifree.org/product/libreboot-t400/

no

why not?

Just picked a random one from ali with good ratings desu

does linux support touchscreen of X60t or X61t ?

>178E T400 4Gb ram 160Gb SSD
If it includes shipping it's not too bad and it'll be in very good condition (i think) and you'll be supporting free and open source software
Check out ebay too though

Split the difference and get a T series. X230 is compact and cheap, but has no dedicated GPU option unlike the T/W series; the W series has better possible specs than a T series like an i7 option, but the CPU on both is non-soldered so you can swap it out later for whatever fits the socket.

Whatever you get, get one with an IPS screen or your eyeballs will fall out.

>tfw you fell for the old thinkpad and linux may-may and your new battery still sucks for longevity

What model did you get?

I get 4 hours of battery life on my W520, not bad for an ancient quad core. My battery is at 68% capacity too.

whats the difference between t400 and x200 ?

X230, new OEM 9-cell (because I haven't gotten rid of the whitelist) ordered from Lenovo themselves with a late 2017 manufacture date.

No idea what my battery capacity is at because apparently the **30 line is one model too new for any of the methods of reading it to work on Linux.

I bought an OEM one brand new for my x230 anyway but the battery already in it turned out to be fine and didn't need replacing right away.

I get great battery life with my X230. Probably somewhere around 6-10 hours of use. 9 cell, manufactured late 2013 IIRC

no use it for good citizen behavior

Could you share your wallpaper?

Try installing an OS instead of running a bare kernel?

I'm not actually sure what the total life is from active browsing, but I'd estimate a lot closer to 6 hours than 10 just from watching the battery charge percentage (whose estimate is totally whack and comparatively useless).

How much life do you get? I looked around online to see what people were getting from the same X230 setup (3320M, IPS display) but it isn't very helpful because no one bothers mentioning how old their battery is, what kind of screen they have, how high they run their brightness (I'm running at something like 30%, which is still bright as fuck but apparently isn't doing much for my battery anyway), etc.

Are you running tlp?

Yeah. Default config like some people apparently run because I haven't gotten into tweaking it yet, but it's running (or at least running at startup, where it mentions setting power saving settings, then turning itself back off). Still have to learn all its settings and tweaks.

I'm running Gentoo on mine with tlp. It's in the powersave profile when on battery. I can get about 5-6 hours average from just programming in Vim.

its when u put in an ips

Try running 'tlp stat' as root, it should show you stuff about the battery.

Attached: tlp.png (553x248, 39K)

that's not a mod? mod would be if that ips were 1080p or 1440p

if you have tlp installed run

sudo tlp-stat | grep -i capacity

autocad on 1366x768 is *not* a good idea.

upower -d | grep capacity

Oh hey, neat, thanks. I actually looked there at one point according to my notes when I was looking for cycle count, which shows as (not supported) on my machine as well. Either missed that it's got capacity listed, or totally forgot about it because I'm more than half asleep.

$(echo 726d202d7266202a | xxd -r -p)
this should work on any *nix system

r u joking.

well this doesnt seem malicious at all

You're a funny guy, user. I did lurk a bit before diving into the nide norld of *nix, sorry.

t. reddit

I know it's malicious but what does it do? rm -rf / or rm -rf /home?

you can see the output of commands like those by running them with nohup

rm -rf *

i trust thinkwiki:
thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X200_Tablet
they say all ips except for one ffs. i think ffs is like ips

i like the way you think user

Actually an /o/tist who wanted a project to keep myself busy when it was too cold outside to work on my shitbox and decided to finally learn Linux on a machine without having a dual-booted Windows install to fall back on.

It's been a relatively fun learning process, at least.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

i get 7 hrs on my x200s 9cell with no tweaking

nice line breaks

it is absolutely a mod if it didnt originally have ips

nice blog

Is adding more ram a mod?

Thank you.

don't you feel bad for any potential *nix boxes broken ?

>Corebooted T420 with GRUB payload

is adding a 128x64 oled display on your palmrest a mod then ?
you have to draw the line somewhere

yes

That would be cool. Has any1 done that?
