Why would anyone use GNU/Linux over Windows or Mac for a desktop? You have to be a retard. Seriously I'm not baiting. There is no non-retarded reason to use GNU/Linux as a desktop. People that dual boot with Windows are even worse
>"I use windows for gaymen"
>"I use windows for work"
No shit, those are the only reasons to still use a desktop now that we have computers that can fit in our pocket. Yes, a GNU/Linux Desktop is as useful as a phone OS. What the fuck are you using GNU/Linux as a desktop for? As a hobby? Yeah, I guess you would have to call it that if you're running out ov games to play lmao. Sure it might be fun to have hope that it will be something more but it will never be anything more than a little play thing.
Why would anyone use GNU/Linux over Windows or Mac for a desktop? You have to be a retard. Seriously I'm not baiting...

no corporate shit
You're dumb the only reason to use windows is for Photoshop or vidya if you don't do either of those Linux is far superior.
>Linux is far superior
It isn't.
Linux fails badly on the most important aspect of computers: compatibility for softwares and users.
>Seriously I'm not baiting.
I hope you aren't writing your college thesis with Word
Wincucks BTFO
Superior in what way? What possible use could it have over Windows and Mac?
why would anyone use an unreliable, slow, badly designed toy (windows)
and get charged for it?
idiot
poasting in an epic bait
>compatibility for softwares
what? linux literally cares about backwards compatibility
you mean windows?
>slow
Maybe if you're a poorfag with a shit computer
Not OP but I made this mistake. I wanted to make some additions on the last day then convert it to PDF and print it, but the file size was so large it got corrupted. I managed to recover the file but still had to split it up to smaller files and export them one by one.
>badly designed
At least Windows doesn't hav systemd and Xorg lmao.
I'm building a new PC and was told that Windows 7 straight up isn't compatible with my processor and I'll have to use Windows 8 or 10. Do they just mean I'll have to install all my drivers manually from a USB or do I have to do some shit to have their kike faggotry miss me?
I'd forego getting a new desktop all together and just live my life staying in antiquity over using windows 10, and half the shit I want to use this for doesn't work in Linux.
linux doesn't hav systemd and Xorg either
>Mac
Why would anyone use Mac when it's just a shittier Linux?
windows 10 is a great OS, the best desktop OS easily.
Why do Linux users always define their OS by the things it doesn't do?
It's the opposite m8
>haha wow your os doesn't spy on you? why do you have to define your os by things it doesn't do
No it isn't.
It doesn't but GNU/Linux does
GNU is a totally free clone of Unix, why would I not want to use it? It can do everything macOS can do. I would never touch some non-POSIX crap like Wangblows.
guix says hi
It literally isn't.
redhat isn't gnu/linux dev
but it does other things
And the search for good bait continues...
biggest reason would be general responsiveness of the software on linux and how productive I can be for software dev on linux compared to windows. also no mandatory 10G updates while 50 pointless processes run the background slowing the system to a crawl
Based Satania poster strikes again.
No software devs use Windows, that would not go well.
What are things it does that Windows doesn't do?
POSIX compliance.
If you need this much validation to keep on using your spyware OS, then by all means disconnect from the internet. Nobody wants to see you wail about "loonix" on Jow Forums
Go edit videos and produce music on GNU/Linux then or download software without breaking your system from dependency clusterfucks.
works on my machine
It's 10x more efficient than the rest.
I can do all that, baby duck.
it respects your penis
Stability. Windows 10 kept crashing on me, the last time was after I plugged in a wireless USB mouse. Reinstalled Windows 3 or 4 times, luckily able to get my data out from the original crash though. Finally gave up and went from dual booting to pure linux. Fuck Windows.
How do you manage to fuck up your system by installing dependencies. It takes a special kind of stupid to be able to pull off such a level of incompetence mate
Pick whatever applies
Better performance on low-spec hardware.
Privacy Distributions for hacking or on principle.
There are several development frameworks that are developed on and for Linux and work better there.
Ubuntu has an arguably better UX than windows.
Supporting open source culture
No money
>Supporting open source culture
Like corporate cock sucking?
Oops, I meant to say package manager
Cope harder
The fuck do you even mean by that?
>million dollar companies produce popular TV shows on Linux
>hurr Linux bad
Literally kys.
The OSM began as a way to make free software more appealing to corporate types.
No cope, just comfy. Also, that clarification makes it worse. How the fuck did you manage that?
The absolute state of windows shills. Imagine shilling for s billion dollar corporation for free and thinking that only your own hobbies are legitimate. Do the world a favor and kill yourself OP
He probably didn't do it for free. I mean, there can't possibly be people that ignorant... r-right? I personally want to believe he's just a paid shill.
By using it
I'm sorry then user, but you need to be 18+ to post here. Either that or you need to report back to your wrangler.
>It can do everything macOS can do.
Except using its software lmao.
Only mumble rappers and art majors use that software. Nothing of value is lost.
>use MacOS
>can't play games
Sucks to be you
Games are for children.
He says as he uses version 3 of BASH
You can use windows 7, the problem is there are no USB drivers until you install them. So you have to install windows with a PS/2 keyboard then install the drivers or have the drivers install automatically on installation with you having to do anything on the keyboard. You can find out how to do this by using a search engine.
Thanks cunt, love you.
You will also need a SATA DVD drive to install because of course your USBs will not work so you'll need to transfer drivers and install through SATA.
No problem, I've done this before. First desktop I ever had I fucked up installing something and couldn't get my USB shit to read, and when I finally fixed that I couldn't get my keyboard or mouse to read anyway. Crawled my way through that mess and studied up on it later.
Everyone at the company I'm working at uses Linux. There used to be one Windows guy and now that he's gone supporting shit is a breeze.
Couldn't you also preinstall it on an HDD or something?
Or download windows 10 and then downgrade to windows 7?
I had a friend who ran into this, here's the rundown:
At some point Micorosft pushed an update to Windows 8 that blue screens if it detects a newer CPU. Either install Linux or some version of Windows 10.
>using windows updates
Nobody with a brainstem does this, they just download the drivers they need to function and then disable it entirely. Everything necessary can be installed and sorted through manually easily enough.
For workflow reasons, you wouldn't understand
Are you an actual mongoloid?
>Couldn't you also preinstall it on an HDD or something?
This is possible in the GNU/Linux world. Feel free to ask Microsoft Premium Support channels about this: answers.microsoft.com
My friend just wanted to play games, he doesn't know anything about computers. The point is jewish retard shit like this is why even non-technical people are switching to linux.
True, but we need to redpill them on TempleOS.
You are welcome to try using Windows 7 but be aware it's only a matter of time before MS breaks your install. I've seen it happen to 3 Windows 8.1 machines.. 2 of them just said fuck it and switched to Linux at that point.
Look at all this COPE.
If Linux had Adobe and Nvidia Optimus support it would actually be good. Otherwise it's just a hobby os for people who want to rice what they see on screen.
I use GNU/Linux for work, hobby stuff (programming), and browsing the web. It is fantastic for all of those things.
>tfw too smart to use GNU/Linux
It's the least rational choice. You can even use bash on Windows
Windows is shit and bloated + botnet
Because I like it better? It fits my needs fine? Why do I need to justify to you my desktop usage anyways faggot? Why do you want more people to use Windows? Are you a shill? Probably.
>dual-booted with Windows 10
>realized I was never even using the Windows 10 partition because I was quite literally able to do everything faster on the Linux partition
Microsoft shills can fuck right off until their product stops being a hassle. I don't hate it because "muh corporations, muh open source." I don't give a shit about that at all. I hate Windows because Windows is the worst operating system in existence. Seriously. I mean that. I don't care how many devs create video games for it, the games don't fix the operating system.
Even on the fastest computer, Windows is slow as shit compared to any other OS installed on the same computer.
I use macOS and even I only use one program that isn't available on Linux. CSP. Krita is honestly a good replacement for CSP though.
>RTX card
>Intel cuck
>Doesn't just block telemetry on win10
"half the shit I want to use this for doesn't work in Linux"
>Everything necessary can be installed and sorted through manually easily enough
I have shit to do brah.
I have a job, I work out a few times a week.
I don't have time to manually sift through a puddle of shit like a fucking caveman.
>meanwhile on Debian
apt update && apt upgrade
alt+tab and go back to what I was doing
>mfw when your skynet is such a broken mess that can't update properly
>mfw you can't use your skynet while it's "updating"
fuck thats the main reason I'm gonna permanently switch to linux. Windows update is the most aggressive auto updater I've ever seen.
some modern mobos have a legacy usb setting
i was able to install windows 7 with a usb mouse and keyboard on my current rig
So I can't use it because you say so?
I use a Linux desktop for an affirmative reason and a passive reason. Meaning, there's a reason I use it as opposed to something else, and there's a reason I don't use something else as opposed to it.
The affirmative reason: installing programs is easier with a package manager and robust / plentiful repositories, keeping an installation working properly is easier with a consistent and standardized directory hierarchy (obtuse though that hierarchy may be), troubleshooting is easier when the OS is actually open enough to literally just tell you what's wrong instead of telling you there's "a problem" that caused something to "stop working," development is easier when all the tools are already there for you and just werk, and it's free.
Passive reason: While I admit there are things Windows and Mac can do that Linux can't, I don't happen to have a need for any of those things.
>dual boot
best of gopnik technology
I’ve been using it for 11 years now. Started with Mint, switched to Slackware for a few years then Debian.
Even tried to go back to Windows when 10 was in beta. It looked like they were trying to get their shit together. The release was a big yikes and I never looked back.
>what is DRI_PRIME
Imagine being so butthurt. Honestly good bait. Enjoy the salt harvest, user
The October update that fucked everything (had to wipe Windows to get any drivers updated). Seemed like a networking bug but it kept me from even installing drivers from my USB.
For me, all the intrusive shit they pull is even worse than fucked up releases. Also ads in a paid OS.
Lately I've been getting very frustrated with my windows install. I'm required to use linux terminal quite a bit in my job and running a virtual box or SSH connection within termius or a linux filesystem window is just extra work.
Although, it is just two clicks really. Other than work stuff, linux just seems more appealing to me when I work with it. Linux file systems are easier to understand, and I'm severely autistic so I need to seem special.
>adobe
Nobody fucking cares about this trash other than hobbyists. There are less adobe users than Linux users.
i dualboot to test if my software runs on windows
I use like five programs of the Adobe Suite, so
> 1. apt update && apt upgrade
> 2. alt+tab
> 3. go back to what I was doing
You see, the problem comes in step 3. If "what you do" isn't shitposting on the Internet or programming, Linux falls short.
>adobe
AHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA
>optimus
works on my laptop, it's been a long time since this was an issue (like 6 years)
