It won't help you, OP, but at least LibreOffice Calc plays nice with CSV files.

Until Excel, which "cleverly" tries to convert your CSV into dates and stupidly cannot handle multi-line entires even in 2019, LibreOffice Calc is a kung-fu master at loading and saving CSV files.

If you have to do any sort of large updates to databases, do yourself a favor and use LibreOffice Calc.

I know this feel, but with something a little more niche called S1000D. I never have to touch any Office programs even at work, just indirectly in a few cases where I output .docx using pandoc or an XML table that Excel can import.

The only reason Microsoft Word has such a good grasp on AI is because Windows logs everything you type and sends it to Microsoft. Then a machine learning algorithm sifts through the typing habits of millions of people and whatever it learns about grammar gets incorporated into Word's grammar checking.

Just because a feature is useful doesn't mean it wasn't created through evil means.

Playing devil's advocate: the choice to opt-out from telemetry literally says they want to improve features with it. Things like improving an ML model for grammar correction is exactly what you'd normally hope they do with that data.
