>use Linux
>ram usage is never more than 2GB

What's wrong with your OS?

Attached: Screenshot from 2019-02-16 20-20-14.png (700x547, 59K)

Who said that?

Do you ever have more than 6 tabs open?

the reason you never use much ram is because you dont do anything on your computer.

nobody needs more than 2 cores

all I have open is fb2k and Fx

Attached: mem.png (224x80, 1K)

I've got more than 50 tabs open right now.
so what are you doing with yours? rendering pixar movies?

im sure that your 10 arch linux vms are very important user

Attached: 3d507631.jpg (632x553, 45K)

Nobody needs more than 2 cores yet need more than 16GB RAM? OK

google chrome and windows 10 changed the game

Imagine actually thinking that there arn't millions of people who benefit every day from having multiple cores

machine learning

lol rekt

Even 24GB is barely enough for a Mac. And I'm not even doing "Real Werk™"

Ofc you are

>tfw using 2.5/8GB of RAM

Attached: 1550330566190.jpg (1368x684, 162K)

Even if he's not, other people are, and other people are doing a massively wide variety of tasks that require more cores. Not everyone wanks off over Linux's ability to handle browser tabs you disgusting autismochan

Isn't discord just a fucking chat app. How is it taking more memory than Photoshop?

>I need a lot of RAM
>Don't really need fast ram
>My 32 GB DDR3 RAM that I bought super cheap in 2013 or something right before the permanent price surge is still doing well
Nice. Although I rarely need more then 24 GB, but having the extra space for web browsing is still useful

>actually writing software that uses memory efficiently
What are you a boomer?

It's not. My next computer will have 64GB.

Compiling gentoo on optimized cflags yo

>iTunes 1.48 GB RAM
im confused

>Ramlets
The "used" here is mostly ZFS cache

ok. im a boomer. i dont really get the picture though

idle cores are destroying the earth user, we need to ban it

New fag

no oldfag. i wasnt active the past years

>i wasnt active the past years
normie

that's because you literally can't do anything in linux, just use windows, it's works

It's as if you guys don't actually do any work on your computer

Attached: Screenshot_20190216_145542.png (692x758, 94K)

That's what my workstation is for. Not my shitposting desktop, silly.

>fb2k
AIMP without cache uses literally less than 2MB

>core temperatures over 60C under full load
Unless your room is 30C, consider fixing your cooling.

My room is 24C. If my CPU breaks I'll just buy a new one, so I don't really care.

>That's what my workstation is for. Not my shitposting desktop, silly.
>not shitposting from your workstation
heh, you're a novice

ramlets, when will they ever learn? I pass through 32gb to my Windows 10 VM along with the GPU. Leaves me 16gb for the Linux host. I still need more ram though, another 16gb will top me out for the motherboard.

Attached: 2019-02-16-150213.png (1111x1022, 992K)

Nothing to do with parts breaking... Damn freetards I swear, it's like high school

Why would you VM on Linux instead of having a Linux and Windows VM on a bare metal hypervisor? What is this faggotry?

But this is wrong. Boomers are the kids born after WW2 ended, when the soldiers finally went home and fucked like rabbits.

The kids born in 1980-99 are millennials.

we're gonna make it bro...

But I am in high school
(18 btw, no ban)

>But I am in high school
Case dropped.

no : -)

I'm also in college.
Why do you act as if you actually believe half the people on this board aren't under 18?

It's just ironically funny, since anons state of mind reflected it perfectly.

Are you guys retarded? Buy RAM depending on what you'll use your computer for.

anything more then 4gb ram is literally bloat

Attached: 2019-02-16-205045_1280x800_scrot.png (1280x800, 76K)

>4GB
the real bloat

>anything more then 4gb ram is literally bloat
You're right why would anyone ever need more than 1GB RAM?

Nah it just means you don't do anything on your computer.

>Discord Helper: 3,5GB

I guess they're teaching kids to code

3GB is enough

Thad?

gotta store those bazillions of gif emoticons that were ripped from Jow Forums somewhere

but it is user

Attached: 1544361488339.jpg (682x601, 52K)

Probably because you your main host to have the best performance, hypervisors are only good for 10+ VM's on a single box

I'm not alone in running Windows for Calculators!

Photoshop is normal. Even back in the day before proper protected memory, etc, Photoshop would use up like 10MB running on a 16MB system.

>uptime 40 seconds
>nothing but a terminal emulator running
lol typical arch user

Kek, oh user. Have you heard of the allegory of the cave?

Stop falling for the bait, Jow Forums.

Anyone who implies Linux is inferior to Windows is clearly baiting.

Just install windows server. It literally uses less than a GB of RAM.

Windows server is windows without the bloat and all the features, not too sure if it even has telemetry or not.

Name of this monitor tool?

good luck with signed drivers

Got 32GB in mine. Most I've ever used was maybe 6GB. For what I do, ram is not an issue ever. Nor is anything else for that matter. Everything "just works" as it should.

Back in the day people used to take the unused ram and create "Ram Drives", a high speed temp dumping ground for data. Kinda like what an SSD does now but unlike an SSD the data in a ram drive would only be good while the computer was on. Turn it off and your data's gone.

ayy fellow 24gb club

Three channel memory?

64G club here

Attached: Taskmgr_2019-02-16_19-52-34.png (665x362, 20K)

pic related

I have 24GB and it's 2x8GB sticks in one channel and 2x4GB sticks in another channel

Attached: 24GB.png (198x119, 3K)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-channel_memory_architecture#Triple-channel_architecture

didn't know that was a thing.
sounds awkward

just cause it's forced, doesn't make it funny. pic related.

Attached: ae2796a05ffadbe0d5bc6a799839cbac.png (500x375, 206K)

Not really awkward as each bank has matching sticks
If you had 3x8GB in a dual channel board then you start hurting yourself when the system has to run in single channel

But Milhouse is not a meme is a meme...

Not that guy but I'm also 2x4 and 2x8, 3000MHz because Ryzen.
First built with 2x4 just to get it off the ground and see how much of a problem was.
Didn't want to put 2x4 in my other two slots and also not have to worry about XMP problems with 4 sticks.

So I got 2x8 for the other 2 slots, same model and all but obviously not identical. XMP'd all 4 sticks to 3000MHz and it's fine.
Worst case scenario I'd still have upgraded to 16GB and can repurpose the 2x4.

Also if I went with another 2x4 if for some reason I did want to upgrade later there'd be no odd set out so one would have actually been a waste of money.
I can replace my 2x4 with 2x8/16 later if I need to without worrying about it.

here

this is new to me too.

I have quad channel and I figured it was yet-another case of computers favoring power-of-two or increments-of-two but now I'm seeing triple channel is a thing and I wonder what the speeds are

for my i9-7900x it's 79GB/s for quad channel
en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/core_i9/i9-7900x

>Was an early adopter of DDR4 back when the 5820k first released.
>Even though it was new, I got 4x8GB of DDR4-2400MHz CL14 for $160 brand new
>HURR DURR 32GB is a WASTE you're an idiot

This was when 8GB was "the norm". Lol git fucked poorfags

Attached: wow_anon.jpg (884x574, 78K)

>2400
yikes

Milhouse is a meta-meme

I had to take what I could get. When DDR4 first hit, anything above 2800MHz was unheard of. I'm on first gen Ryzen now. I'll be getting 7nm Ryzen when it launches and 2x16GB of the fastest RAM possible. Literally 4000MHz or better.

it really isn't tho. Those bastards lied to us
