I have a R9 270x and render multi-subbed hard surface vehicles with PBR materials in cycles and it takes upwards to 15mins.

Maybe you're rendering much more complex scenes than I am but i'd look more into my render settings if I were you plus enabling cuda since you have an nvidia card.

This. I game at 1080p on a laptop with a 3gb 1060 and get 60+FPS in every game I throw at it. VERY rarely do I need to drop the game anywhere below ultra settings and only when there's 8 million extra settings that I don't give a flying fuck about that drive the game's video memory requirement above 3GB (like racing games that have reflection settings for each individual water droplet) and if I really want to stay in ultra I can drop to 720p and get 90+ FPS

Only reason to consider a 1050ti is for sff cases and weak PSUs

We've had 1920x1080 monitors for God knows how long, and no one should have to play in 1280x720 in the year 2019. Not even consoles use this resolution anymore. It looks like complete garbage upscaled, and I'd rather play in native resolution and turn down a few settings instead. Usually you can barely even tell the difference between medium water quality and high water quality anyway.

Depends on the game. If you only play older games (something like 5+ years old) and/or non-graphically-intensive games, then even an iGPU on a decent CPU should be sufficient. PC gaming is like most other hobbies: it can be dirt cheap if you know what you want and know how to look for it.
