The only reason you need any of this junk is to play gaymes, and yet Jow Forums pretends like gaymers are the scum of the earth and no one on this board ever plays them. Why?
Because we are adults and not 12 year olds. We build high end PCs to run benchmarks, watch anime, write small programs in meme languages, and shitpost about those activities.

I want to play video games but I'm too depressed and lethargic. It's such a shame, I used to really enjoy them.
It's mostly just trolls, autists, and people who are bitter that they have to work and have no more time for gaming. The whole "video games are kiddy shit!" meme is laughable. There's essentially no difference between playing video games, reading, or watching anime/TV. They're all just time wasters meant for personal enjoyment. So-called "adult" hobbies like drinking alcohol or courting women aren't any better than any other hobbies.
Besides, there's little point to buying a computer with a powerful CPU/GPU unless you're using it for gaming. You can code on a cheapo shitbox or even a mac just fine, even a Raspberry Pi would do. Things like web browsing, watching videos, etc. don't require a powerful custom made PC. You aren't fucking fooling anyone pretending that gaming isn't a major reason for owning a PC.

You might also edit videos, design 3D objects with CAD, or train neural networks.

As a fat bald man on the fringe of society with no real social life or immediate prospects, I have no reason NOT to play games. I understand, however, that the larger culture views men who do so as losers, virgins, "neckbeards,"etc.
However, nobody wants a label as such and therefore will attempt to refute it overtly while understanding subconsciously that it does in fact apply to one's self (e.g., me).
In short, Jow Forums wants to larp as a normie by hating on gaymes while indulging in them. Classic guilt and projection.

i bought a pc with a good gpu so i can offload some calculation to the gpu. i do a lot of computational modeling and it helps to crunch matrices
I just do it because it makes people mad. That's all.

Because retards think "growing up" is a process where you abandon things that are "childish" and start doing "adult" things, just like mass media shills it. But in reality they just stop doing things they enjoy like gaming and start watching Netflix or something thinking they've accomplished something great.
You accomplish nothing replacing one leisure activity with another. If you waste too much time, switching to TV or anime won't solve your problem. It's because you are lazy. And I'm sure many games can be much more beneficial to you than passively watching stuff.
