Why haven't you dumped IRC and XMPP for Riot yet?

I have, and I've ran my own matrix synapse server for about a year. Hoping to change to matrix dendrite in the future. Go will be much faster than python.

>I've ran my own matrix synapse server for about a year
how many users?

For person-to-person chat, toxchat (qTox or others) is better and more secure
Especially with the Russian external internet shutdown coming

>toxchat (qTox or others) is better and more secure

Might be more private (Matrix metadata, such as who is talking to whom, is still known to the homeserver), but I have my doubts about it being more secure.

>Why haven't you dumped IRC and XMPP for Riot yet?
Because there are actually good Jabber clients that aren't Electron apps, unlike Matrix.

See your body into the moonlight
Even if I try to cancel
All the pictures into the mind
There's a flashing in my eyes

Don't you see my commission, the nation
Has gone running again
Can't you see now, illusions
Right into your mind

Deja vu
I've just been in this place before
Higher on the street
And I know it's my time to go
Calling you, and the search is a mystery
Standing on my feet
It's so hard when I try to be me, woah
Deja vu
I've just been in this time before
Higher on the beat
And I know it's a place to go
Calling you and the search is a mystery
Standing on my feet
It's so hard when I try to be me, yeah

See the future into the present
See my past leaves in the distance
Try to guess now what's going on
And the band begins to play

Don't you see my commission, the nation
Has gone running again
Can't you see now, illusions
Right into your mind

Deja vu

PS: matrix/riot rocks.

shitty logo

I have.

The state isn't nearly that bad. Sure, Riot is the only truly fully-featured one, but others are still usable.
weechat-matrix supports encryption for text conversation, so it's quite usable as a general IRC replacement. Nheko too, if you're into GUI but want something more lightweight than Riot. Discord/Slack addicts should be okay with Riot, since the former are also Electron apps. Macfags even have a client with fully-implemented encryption, including files and such.
Sure, alternate clients could be better and with more features that'd bring them closer to Riot, but they aren't exactly *bad* when compared to standard clients for various other protocols.

Quaternion seems to be the best Matrix client, but it's still very worrying that all the reference/semi-official software is web-based.
I love the web, but javascript is hellish.

Quaternion looks a bit to IRC-y (in a clunky UI way, not simplicity-wise) for a GUI client to me. Nheko and Fractal seem to have a bit cleaner UI.
Making the flagship client a webapp actually makes a lot of sense. It makes it really easy for new users to try the platform out (they just need to open a webapp), you can link to public rooms so that guests can preview them without installing software and you can still pack them with Electron to make them a bit closer to a native app.

Nheko and Fractal look like Telegram, which is phoneposter garbage. I know this, because I unfortunately used to use it.
All this humongous space, and it's not because of large easy-to-read fonts, it's because of empty space for touch-screens.
>It makes it really easy for new users to try the platform out
Yes, but it makes the platform worse. Making a platform easier to try should only be done when it improves the platform.

Don't get me wrong, I hate discord, but my friends use discord and I use it to voicechat while gaming with them.

You're no better than your friends, then.

2. Both me.

What's the point if I have no one to talk with?

I think there's a Jow Forums room but you not having friends is not riot's problem.

B-but my bf is next to me! I don't need chat to uwu at him and get headpats.

I think it's worse...
And it breaks the fundamental right to be forgotten

Since you are not on a server, you can't delete your posts conversations and things like that, it's worse than belonging to 1, your data is spread across thousands.

At least I don't use winbloat, but I guess you're right.

Can you make channels and shit?

Yes. Click the + next to the "ROOMS" header on the left sidebar.

>Yes, but it makes the platform worse
in what way? The most popular client's implementation doesn't have any bearing on the protocol standard.
People really have to stop thinking of stuff as "platforms". Matrix is not a "platform". It's a protocol the same way email is a protocol.

>Russian external internet shutdown coming
meme

Full of malware

>I'm full of FUD

Didn't they get busted with hidden malware couple months ago?
its probably full of miners too

[citation needed]

because i have no friends

>Didn't they get busted with hidden malware couple months ago?
no?

Yea they did
Lurk more

Nice sources, thanks!

Me too, it's great. Alongside nextcloud.

There's an option to not allow a room to federate. Create and use only such room and all data will be on one homeserver.

I guess they just couldn't find someone to design a logo for them while they spewed out code. So sad, Jow Forums would never have such problems.
