Should I use Arch or Gentoo?

I'm currently using Xubuntu but I want a little more freedom. I'm not an expert with Linux but willing to learn a bit but nothing that'll give me tons of issues

Debian netinst with no DE selected or Gentoo

Arch. The use case for gentoo is very narrow and there are few benefits to tiny custom kernels. Arch gives a lot of choice with less autism. That said, it can be a great way to learn the ropes before jumping ship to Gentoo if you do decide to go with that.

Install Artix tho

No.

just keep using Xubuntu. the last thing this world is another loser Archfaggot

debian

install gentoo

gentoo since you wont have to use systemd

install gentoo

If you have to ask what OS to use, the answer is Kubuntu.

Go for straight Gentoo. Arch forces you to use systemD. While Gentoo is difficult to install at first, any issues go away when you have finally installed it.

What's wrong with systemd?

Just use minimal ubuntu + i3 and rice the shit out of it.

It's large.

Gentoo forces openrc instead

Custom kernelled ubuntu is hella fast and responsive

you have the option to use systemd on gentoo, but i dont understand why anyone would actually use it

Neither.
Why would you jump straight to those meme distros?
If you're familiar with Ubuntu but you want more freedom, just go with Debian.

Why such hate to systemd. It just works for any desktop user like us!

Arch - you can always try Gentoo afterwards.

fpbp

Install Gentoo.

>forces
It doesn't. You can switch to systemd during installation very easily. Besides, a system has to be a standard init, and Gentoo is one of the few popular distributions where it isn't systemd.

Any init system just werkz for the average desktop user, that's the point. However, without systemd, you avoid all the bugs and bloat it brings.

but what about runit? openrc and systemd are both garbage which means gentoo is shit

What operating system do you use?

what has that got to do with anything?

Runit is also included in the official Gentoo repos.

yeah so what? does gentoo actually ship runit scripts with their daemons? any brainlet can install runit on any distro

but you said you didn't want any conveniencies or features?

where did i say that?

Honestly just kill yourself at this point, dude.

you first
