I dunno man, he actually made some kind of content instead of posting one of the same handful of threads that are effectively on auto repeat on this board. No need to be mean.

>old shit is good >new shit is shit No, its same shit.
At least the old versions of Windows were designed to be, you know, operating systems. They supported a wide variety of hardware and software without too much interference and had to actually be released in a usable state. That and pre-DSL internet, the updates had to actually count for something.
Vista was sluggish and completely broken. Plus it added UAC.
Windows 8.1 was apparently developed based on some bright idea from a marketing intern who had never seen a desktop PC and just assumed everyone uses touch-screen devices and apps.
Windows 10 is functional and an improvement over 8.1 but it comes with candy crush and cortana pre-installed. I could rant for several paragraphs about how it's fucked but that first statement alone is enough.

Gamers hate you too champ. Go jerk off to ASCII porn on Ubuntu you fuck
Depends on the context. In case of Windows versions, it's certainly true.
Dylan Carter

Windows 2000 was the last Microsoft operating system actually designed for professional use. After that, home users clearly became a priority, and it shows. The latest versions... I honestly don't even who the fuck their target is. They aren't a sane working environment, and certainly not practical on a desktop.

>no MS DOS ZOOMERS GET OUT
Windows Phone is overrated. - lagged on the low-end hardware - half the phones that were promised Windows 10 never got the update - buggy on phones that did get the update - can't change default apps without third party tools - developers abandoned their apps long before Windows Phone was even discontinued
Henry Hughes
The later versions are designed for wide-spread appeal and usage. That's why they're so unfocused and scatter-brained.
Even looking at Windows 10, there's so much duplication of effort. There are two menus for uninstalling programs for fuck's sake. There's a tard version of certain programs and then the standard "old-school" version.
But their modern design philosophy is clear - consumers are braindead and need the software to think for them and keep itself alive. That's why they've removed so much control and customization and filled the OS' ass up with a hot load of bloatware.
Wyatt Turner
There is two versions of the settings menu, each with their own unique features and settings.
Hunter Nguyen
Win2k was the golden age of Windows. Win7 was alright but the glass stuff was unnecessary.
Win10 is wtf tier. There is no cohesion at all. Even most Linux distros have surpassed it in terms of where settings are located. Is the thing I want in "Settings" or control panel? Why isn't there a control panel icon anywhere? There is still so much shit in control panel/Security and Maintenance. Not to mention Computer Management.
MS needs to step back from Win10 and make the decision to start over. The "Settings" menu is complete bullshit. Just put everything back into the control panel.
Hunter Morris
Agreed. They need to start fresh. Like the jump from 9x to NT.
Lucas Gomez
It was going to be Windows Phone and they killed it.

XP < 7 < 8.1 Using 8.1 right now. Haven't used 10 yet.
Vista was good, mid 2000s hardware was shit. For a board who's argument for apple products is "poorfag", how embarrassing it is that you didn't have good enough hardware to run Vista, poorfag. 10 is so much faster than 8 so deserves to be above it as 8 was botnet as well. 95 is god tier and had the best sounds because of based Brian Eno. 2000 is better than XP.
Install Gentoo.

Settings is the replacement you idiot. Every 6 months they take more and more out of the control panel and put it in the new Settings menu.
MMC has been removed from Server Core with a long term plan to completely replace it - already you can do many things using Windows Admin Centre if you so desire.
William Smith
That's basically the LTSB edition. You could just get the hell over the minor inconveniences that you disable once and move on with your life.

To me XP was the last time when you could use the idle desktop as a symbol of countless other great cultural things.
David King
XP was the time when the web finally got out of dial up, but wasn't bloated trash, meaning you could watch The Demented Cartoon Movie in only a minute's loading rather than 20. It serves as a symbol for when many of the best parts of the old web and old tech world were still alive and kicking, but had many new features meaning you could actually enjoy them.

Because Settings was intended to be the same on the new ARM64 PCs and it already was the same as Windows 10 Mobile. They're now moving most of everything else in there.

All versions of Windows prior to 7 were garbage. Win7 and Mac OS X 10.6 were the pinnacle of usability for mainstream desktop OSes.

Vista was half-baked, like Windows 8.0. 7 and 8.1 were good.

I remember my parents getting a new laptop with Windows Vista preinstalled. It was the slowest piece of shit I ever saw. Therefore, I can attest to his claim
Jacob Rodriguez
Vista was bumpy at launch, but soon had any kinks ironed out to become a fine OS.
Easton Howard
My first real computer had windows ME on it and it actually wasn't that bad. I'm convinced all the hate is a meme. I'd probably still have it if the CIH virus didn't fuck my bios

>latest version of [program] is the worst they have ever made, how did they fuck up like this? *10 years later* >*sobbing* remember that one version of [program], it was the only good one, they fucked up with the latest So original...
Henry Lopez
>Vista was bumpy at launch, but soon had any kinks ironed out to become a fine OS. Meh. At the time of the Windows 8 release (2012?), I was working on some multi-OS compatibility shit at Microsoft and had to work on XP through 8. 7 was the only one without glaring issues.
Camden Young
By SP2 all the problems had been patched out. Microsoft knew the damage had been done so they gave vista a new UI and other tweaks and called it windows 7.
Benjamin Jones
Perhaps. I honestly can't remember the problems I had anymore, but they were annoying. I was never a huge Windows fan anyway though.
Ryan Wilson
> longhorn developement was a clusterfuck and had to be rebooted > bill gates had demanded better security, so they had to take manpower away from vista to patch xp first and put uac as a literal bandaid later > they saw mac os tiger and went ballistic, trying to top it off > due to hasty nature of developement no one properly tested the damn thing, which resulted in no working drivers on release and 300 uac prompts on every software installation > pointless 400 different versions of which no one can tell difference > owners of ultimate were promised special exclusive features, never to be delivered > minimal requirements went way up, so manufacturers pressured microshit to add another label "windows vista ready" along with "windows vista certified", the new label was supposed to be "vista would work on this pc without aero effects" but it ended up clutterring market with vista computers that couldn't run vista whatsoever, further destroying its reputation > at some point they realised they were serving literal shit so their solution was cranking up ad money like it's 95 hoping people would eat it up anyway. no one bought it, and furthermore everyone realised they shouldn't blindly trust microsoft's hype anymore (that bit them in the ass later quite a few times with their "revolutionary" concepts, which people outright rejected with passion) > to top it off, ballmer took entire windows mobile team off to fix this shit in what ended up being 7, in critical time when iphone was released, effectively dragging their mobile division in the hole they would never came back from I think I am well aware of its story to hate it.
Daniel Torres
kernel of wisdom? more like kernel of shit

They can't. They're buttmad Microsoft knows how many hours you have an application open due to telemetry and that's all that matters to them.
Joseph Campbell
Whilst they did delay it to beef up shitty XP the OS itself wasn't that bad. Driver changes were fine and expected especially switching to 64-bit.
But they made Project Mojave to prove people didn't hate Vista but rather were mindless sheep like yourself. They rethemed it and told people it was a new OS and 90% of the people going in hating Vista said they loved it.
Hence Windows 7 was born lmao. A retheme fooled you and others.
Connor Cooper
Good OC, bump.

The normal branch is fine too if you cancel your autism. Edge > IE >b.b...but I use an browser developed by an advertising company ok The Store is also fine and more convenient than manually updating apps like Spotify etc.
Ayden Diaz
>Edge > IE I don't care, because both are shit. Edge is just a chromium shell now anyway. Mozilla is retarded, but they aren't an advertising company. >The Store is also fine and more convenient than manualle updating apps like Spotify >apps >Spotify why the fuck are you even here?
Jayden Young
>Edge is just a chromium shell now anyway Not yet, but yes soon, which means they can focus on the UI rather than EdgeHTML cooking shit. >why the fuck are you even here? Because you don't own this place peasant. Technology isn't determined by those that pick a decade and say >"Yep this is where progress ends"

Windows 2000 and LTSB/LTSC are the only reasonable operating systems Microsoft ever made. Don't let nostalgia cloud your judgement.
what was wrong with 7 in your opinion? LTSC is good but I'd still prefer 7 over it
Isaac Allen
The LTS branches of windows 10 are usable but they are still unstable trash compared to anything other than vista.
Michael Wright
Unironically Windows 7 Enterprise is still more locked down and bloated. It's also based on old Vista source, instead of the half-rewritten Windows 10 one that was done after (more likely turning) Windows 8.
