>it starts turning off by itself after like 20 minutes of use
>idles 120C on temp4 which is no doubt the ATI GPU, because it goes to -1C when I disable the dedicated GPU
>turns out it needs a thermal pad and not paste, so put a pad on there
>now temp4 idles in mid-70's idle
Y'all think this is okay? I know old dedicated GPUs like this run super hot but still worried

Maybe take a look at T450, or maybe even T460, you could probably get those for under $500 easy

Does anyone have the E585 (ryzen 7) or the E485 (ryzen 5)? I want to buy one for college and be able to do simple 3-D design and drawings

I havent seen tripcode in a while, is he okay?

He posted a video recently. He must be super busy.

any tips on purchasing an IPS for my T440p? Can't seem to find an authentic anywhere

You do you mean by authentic? There are multiple manufacturers for the displays, Lenovo does not make them themselves. And they use standard plugs and sizes so they go in multiple kinds of laptops.

As long as you have the right part number/FRU number then it should work.

T420s or T420(s pural)
T420s uses shitty square battery, they don't last long
and soldered CPU like the X-series and smaller cooling system.

It might also only take 7mm height hard drives like the X-series? I don't remember. Pretty much all SSD's are 7mm but you'll have to find 'slim' HDD's because they are typically 9.5mm height.

I cant seem to find where the part number is on these online listings. They either have their own proprietary one or none listed at all. What's the actual part # for a FHD IPS T440p screen?

do you actually have to remove the coin-cell battery to change the trackpad?

Hi guys

Just got a used t450s from ebay and it has a coil whine sound that will get loud from time to time and even when it quite it can always be heard from getting close to the right side of the keyboard. Can I fix it or should I send it back?

What should I buy? t420 or t230?

Tenko using a Tenkopad

Hi guys, again

x250

x220 for $20 and invest 300 on upgrades but you'll be the cool kid

whaddya want

Attached: disdain for apple.png (279x232, 71K)

will there be any performance issues regarding battery life and integrated graphics if I switch my T440p panel to IPS?

So what IPS display part do I buy for a t450. I was watching a replacement video and some guy had his display curve, but it all still worked well. Is it okay to buy an unbranded one?

Are you some kind of simpleton?

>i5
>not p
No.

My x250 has a 128GB SSD. How do I get more memory for a cheap price?

Sort by lowest price.

>i7-8550U
>250 GB SSD
>igpu
>16GB ram

Intended for development work, general use, movies/tv, and super light gaming. Is this alright?

Sure.

Unsure if sarcastic or not.

I'm not. It's severe overkill. It'll work fine.

Thank you for the help. Apologies for my ignorance.

poor thinkpad having to be used by a mentally ill faggot, what a waste

My boss gave me a 3k budget to put together a laptop. Not spending it doesn't mean I get the remainder of the money to it'd be a waste not to spend it.

So when it comes to new laptops which brand/line should I go with? Are new Thinkpads worth it or should I go with Dell?

get a macbook retina

Needs to be Windows.

get a macbook retina and install windows

What did he mean by this.

Mine has coil whine too. I've read that this seems to be an issue with T450s in general, especially with the i7 version. Mine isn't that bad since it's just audible in absolute silence but once you noticed it, you won't be able to unhear it. I would say try your luck with another one as long as you can return it - I know I would.

asuka is the best hibike

P52 or X1E if you want thin and light.

Need lappy for college $400 budget but wouldn't mind spending less if unnecessary. Looking at t450. Sounds good or should I get something newer?

I would go with the t450s. Excellent laptop.

I hope he's doing fine. He posted a vid of a music video made with C++ & ffmpeg a week ago and said he'd upload a video on how it was made "later tonight" but hasn't done it yet. Probably just busy.

If you're reading this though, upload that damn video already. Also I want to see more of that 760cd.

It has a core i5 and is not the T450p so it's not worth it.

I don't need an i7 and there aren't any listings for a t450. !

Anyone have the current Lenovo employee discount code?

Should i just go ahead and get a T430 instead of a T420? the t430s are pretty much the same price as the 420

You mean you have a single 16gb ram stick in there?

What's the general opinion on X1's here? I want to get something a bit more than the t440p I have right now, plus I'm kinda starting to get annoyed by the thickness

Does an M.2 SSD appear as a separate drive? Can I combine it with my SATA HDD on my OS?

I had an x1 yoga and it was pretty decent, I'd say to go with the yoga model if you want to get ones just because you can use it as a tablet aswell and they have stronger hinges. It felt like a fairly solid machine. Only downside is no HDD bay and soldered ram if you don't care about those go for it

Who are we talking about?

Why are the P models not recommended anymore?

tripcode!Q/7

>tripcode!Q/7
I'll check em out! Thanks user!

no, I have 2x8gb sticks now. I'm sending back the 2x4gb sticks I originally purchased, since they are still in the 30 day warranty period. I didn't want to pay $55 for 8gb of ram, when a 1x8gb stick costs $28-40 dollars.

SNIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Either buy an M.2 2242 SSD and keep the 2.5" drive or replace the 2.5" drive with something higher capacity.

To do this you remove the back panel, which exposes pretty much everything. It isn't hard at all really, it's just a few screws and a few plastic clasps. While you're there you can upgrade the RAM if you'd like.

B140HAN01.1, .2 or .3

Got mine from eBay. Most sellers will have a clause where they say they may send you a "compatible" (i.e. crappier) screen. Best way to get around this is just to message them first and confirm they have the exact one you want in stock before ordering.

of yeah the soldered RAM doesn't make a difference for me. As long as the thing runs smoothly and hasn't been (((tampered))) with, we good

I use my x220 to DJ at nightclubs all the time, my main software is Serato DJ.
I decided to go pro and use my x220 specifically for DJing so I wiped and installed the latest win10 LTSB N.

Suddenly Serato runs like shit and not only lags but sounds horrible, this didn't happen before I wiped it clean... It used to run Serato flawlessly even when Eclipse and Visual Studio + Firefox with a ton of tabs was open in the background.

I've tried different GPU drivers since when running Serato the system isn't under load and there's only 30% RAM and CPU usage, but I really don't know what to do here.

Attached: Untitled.png (1366x768, 104K)

What are some good x200 upgrades or tweaks Jow Forumsentoomen?

Why are there so many DJs here?

Bonus, here's my trusty x220

Attached: thinkpad.png (1005x504, 936K)

Are there any guides I should check out for first time setup of a Thinkpad? Mine is set to arrive sometime today. I plan on reformatting it once I settle on a Linux distro. Beyond that though, is there anything else I should do?

>windows

Have you installed all the drivers?
Also why N if you're going to use it for media related things?

I have a T450 i5 5400-u with the 1366x768 screen. I want to put an FHD IPS in it...do I need to replace the eDP cable, and what screen will be compatible with it (working with the brightness controls)?

Attached: IMG_20190215_125542.jpg (927x1199, 232K)

I don't actually have one yet*** I was going to buy one***

I'm missing 2 wich windows update couldn't resolve and I'm trying to hunt down

>Also why N if you're going to use it for media related things?
Because I hoped that serato wouldn't be dependant on Windows Media Player shit but I had to download the media patch since it wouldn't run without it

How am I going to run Serato if not?

Not that guy, but when it comes to DJing you're pretty much stuck to Mac and Windows because of DAW, VSTs and driver support for all the random interfaces you use unless you start with Linux and make compromises.

Bitwig and Renoise are really good though.

Install the non n version, n is cancer

Tfw flashing libreboot on my x60t right now

I'd try with the basic LTSB version because the N is missing a bunch of codec shit which could very well be the cause for your stuff sounding bad.

where did you get the thermal pad? what size/thickness is it? I have a T43p I did this to; bought a new heatsink, and used thermal grease instead of a pad, and my GPU idles at like 90C now.

I have a W500 too that I am about to go over

Just picked up the T580 for the presidents day sale. How'd I do?

I'm on it, thanks, will report

user Im replyng to says he idles at 120C so Im not doing too bad.
basically I replaced an I think 1mm thick thermal pad with thermal grease, so the heatsink isnt making proper contact, so temps are high. I need to use either a thermal pad OR a copper shim

I didn't like their ssd options so I chose HDD with Intel optane for now. Only other option was 4k which is a battery draining meme for a laptop.

Alrighty. Well I cannot seem to find one that's 1080p, and costs less than paying another $60 for a new FHD screen.

Attached: 1511058387452.jpg (1200x1799, 219K)

Kek, both of you need to fix that though. 120C idle is quite something but 90C is not that much better either.

Attached: 1533361474345.jpg (1600x1018, 326K)

other user already fixed his, but he id idling at 70c now

whats the temp under load? you can try underclocking/undervolting your gpu and even cpu. do you have a proper w500 heatsink?

>hp

it's funny how both hp and lenovo consumer products are fucking dogshit yet the business products are a league on their own, why the fuck can't they make anything good in the consumer space?

>protect smart
Looks like it did it's job well

If you can get idiots to keep buying your shit, why bother.

I take it you don't find the offset trackpad and trackpoint annyoying?

Are ThinkPads considered consumer products or business products? Like, the ThinkPad I just ordered seems like it would suit a consumer, but in general aren't ThinkPads considered business?

Anytime I'm doing anything in depth I usually have a mouse handy. The offset track pad doesn't bother me.

whats a good gaming laptop?

I didn't really want to post thinkpad gore but this one is either not that bad or even worse depending on how you look at it.
