Done. What's next?

fix it

Done. Next?

I just uninstalled it 2 nights ago, OP.
I wanted to use the desktop version of Microsoft Word and Virtual Machines make my lappy run a little hot and hurt his battery!

my main distro for a year now, will be upgrading to void when i get some free time

Don't do that
t. went from Arch to Void to Arch again

install artix

What made you go back to arch?

come home white boi

Attached: gentoo-new_badge.sh-600x600.png (600x600, 138K)

Trash package manager, AUR is a bunch of hacks, maintainers are lazy pieces of shit. Truly the Jow Forums distro.

Too late, I've installed gentoo already.

What's wrong with pacman in your opinion?

i dont reply to tripfags

What's wrong with pacman in your opinion?

Done, 3 times. What's next?

nor namefags

>still no Kodi 18 package

Community is lazy fucks

Other guy pretending to be me. pacman's command line syntax is odd (-S for inStall?). Its documentation is lacking. Does the build system allow one PKGBUILD to create multiple split packages? Do packages support various kinds of metadata for dependencies, like which libraries or commands a package provides, virtual package mechanics, obsoleting other packages?

You're mom's a whore.

s is for sync

>sync
>usually refers to synchronizing metadata cache for resolving dependencies
>"syncs" a package into your system
?¿?¿?¿?¿

Rice it

What's wrong with pacman in your opinion?

ricing my arch install atm
I played minecraft yesterday and for some reason it fried my cpu and I have to do it all over again

Geniunely asking, why should i ditch arch and install gentoo? How difficult is it to install/use compared to arch?

Have a job: Manjaro
Don't have a job: Arch

If you're a incel and have nothing to live for, taking 2 days to compile firefox might save you from suicide and give you a reason to live for.

it doesn't break while updating

>have a job: insecure self-breaking trash with no actual enterprise value
>don't have a job: insecure self-breaking trash but now it's your fault

Everything kept breaking, Void is like Arch many years ago

except arch breaking while updating is a meme unless you never ever read the arch website and auto update packages from aur like a moron

You don't have to do that on other distros though. Even Gentoo has inline news if something requires user intervention, and even just installing the packages and not doing it won't outright break your system.

systemd broke for many users some months ago. It's not mentioned on their website. I assume this is true for a lot of other packages as well.

>what is systemd
At least manjaro reverted their package.

i'm doing it every day

The last time I used Arch was in 2006.
Has it gotten better since?
Back then it didn't even support signed packages and was generally considered a joke distro, mostly used by ricers and novices for its simplicity.

Not much difference then kek
It's still the ricer distro, with the difference being they removed the install guide, because apparently easy things don't get them street cred.

>Has it gotten better since?
no

>Have a job: Manjaro
>Breaks much more than vanilla Arch making it seem Arch is Debian stable
Nice joke user

They removed the install guide because it wasn't up to date. Just watch an nsa-tube tutorial if you dont know what you're doing.

They didn’t remove the install guide

uninstall it and install OS X

Could you elaborate

aur.archlinux.org/packages/?O=0&SeB=nd&K=pony&outdated=&SB=n&SO=a&PP=50&do_Search=Go
>using PonyOS

Already did. For the sake of it I installed it on an LVM on LUKS partition and configured it to automount a LUKS on LVM partition at boot. I learned a lot while doing so.

Why would I install Arch? It isn't Clear Linux

Pacman is fast af, AUR is great, bleeding edge. Why would you not want Arch?

Slow, bloated piece of shit

it's easy to install if you know how to linux and compiling everything including a de took ~2 hours for me

Never experienced that

That’s not an upgrade.
>stale packages
>small, unhelpful community

I agree with Pacman being a fast mother fucker. However, the devs needs to stop being a bunch of cucks and put more packages in it instead of the AUR.

>stale packages
other than python, what do you think is stale in Void's repos?

What is Reflector?

Give one advantage over Ubuntu for a programmer

Other than impressing the normies, and a few others, nothing really.

I have arch on this machine since 2 and a half years. Never had any issues with system breaking. I experimented with hardened kernel + DKMS, normal kernel, kde testing. The only thing that 'broke' is KDE wayland, but that shit breaks anywhere and that is definitely not distro related.

nothing except r/unixporn upvotes

the installation instruction are still there. they removed the newbie guide. just follow the instructions.

AUR

On the AUR website, vote for the packages you like. If there is enough demand they get added to the community repository.

Not an advantage at all.

hp firmware won't let me install arch. arch needs to make its bootloader compatible with hp laptops

compared to ubuntu? yes, it is.

>Give one advantage over Ubuntu for a programmer
Arch includes headers in library packages.
Ubuntu has split -dev packages, so you have to install those manually.

It's a tradeoff between convenience & bloat (Arch) vs. minimalism (Ubuntu).

Not even compared to Ubuntu. Anything you can compile from the AUR can be compiled manually, it's fucking easy. And the best part? No broken trash that comes along with the AUR. Go back to r/unixporn.
Based

Ever see that image of the fat guy telling his mom to cancel his appointments because xorg broke? Well Gentoo is like that on steroids because you built your system wrong. It's a perpetual problem you have to fix so you never get appointments in the first place as your job is just fixing your Gentoo install, each "fix" taking 2 hours to compile.

S is for Sync, R is for Remove, Q is for Query. You obviously didn't read the fucking man page at all.

But when you have a lot of different stuff you compiled manually, how do you keep track on this? You can't update the whole system and all your self compiled packages with a single command. Arch has AUR helpers like trizen which makes this so easy to manage.

already did 2 years ago

I fucking know it stands for sync but sync is not in any way a good description of what it does. SMGL's spell casting is more intuitive than this trash.

He said it is like Arch years ago, kept breaking.

no. compiling stuff fucking easily is using pkgbuilds from the AUR. yes, you can absolutely do without, but the AUR exists to make it easier. arch has it, ubuntu doesn't. is it necessary? no. does it provide an advantage? yes, if you actually program stuff and run into some obscure dependencies you rather not want to bother with. chances are high that AUR has them.

It synchronizes the package with the repository. How is this not a good description?

>how do you keep track of the things you've compiled manually?
By not being a fucking retard, and using a distro with a large enough binary distro to not actually need to compile packages. The AUR is a bandaid, and a shitty one at that.
>using packagebuilds from the build is easy
Wow, so is typing 'wget' and 'make'. Go figure. Archlets don't know how to use the command prompt.
>aur exists to make it easier
Too bad it's a shitty fucking frankenstein of a "repository". Even xbps-src is better than your piece of shit idol.
>is it necessary?
Absolutely, because Arch is a piece of shit that locks you in a single shitty repo.
If you actually programmed stuff you wouldn't be using your garbage piece of shit distro.
If you stupid fucks cared at all about any of this shit you'd be using something like Ubuntu or its derivatives, which is actually useful, unlike Arch, Or Fedora, or even Gentoo, which actually handles source package management far fucking better than any of your shitty pactrash. Go read a fucking manpage and fuck right off back to r/unixporn.

I agree.

Specifically: they need to stop being autistic about commercial products.
Although it has become better over the years.

Too bad that's never going to happen because the devs are lazy retards who care neither about efficiency nor utility. Literally install Ubuntu

Attached: assyrian.jpg (341x450, 36K)

Except it literally doesn't. Synchronizing would mean replicating a state. What happens is a file gets downloaded and unpacked and configured as per your system. There is no preexisting state that something gets synchronized to here.

You don't have to deal with a community of retarded children who have to be spoonfed the same answers over and over again in forum posts instead of providing a single easy to search wiki.

He asked for an advantage that Arch has.
Not an advantage that Ubuntu has.

Attached: 1539707773249.png (700x443, 211K)

So far you have no point, spout some bullshit and attack people for arguing in favor for distro features you don't like. Who do you try to convince with that? And why would you waste anyone's time with that?

Well he's kinda right. Ubuntufags are retarded and just use the simplest and least portable hackjob solution they get, which breaks 3 other things with it. Not that Arch is any better with the hackjob approach.

You've got no point whatsoever, and neither does your shitty gimmick distro.
Any distro can be bleeding edge and any distro can compile from source. Go shill on r/unixporn / desktop threads. Your AUR is a piece of mangled junk with hellish bloat and dependency problems. Take your garbage and fuck right off.
Ubuntufags doesn't have to be anything but simple because it just works and isn't filled with bandaid resolutions like Arch. Simple as. Difference between Arch and Ubuntu is that an Ubuntu user will take hackjob approaches because he is uneducated, but the Arch user will take hackjob approaches because he is pompous. Not to mention, Arch as a distro is a hackjob itself.

Attached: 1535458390641.png (800x800, 550K)

So you admit you have to be spoonfed?

Reminder that the creator of Gentoo uses macOS.

Try reading once in a while, retard.
So what if he's become a faggot? The distro is perfect.

Attached: efficiency spiraling.png (1600x1200, 2.54M)

Stay mad.

He also randomly decided that he doesn't like Gentoo after the fact and made a shitty spinoff. People change.

>So what if he's become a faggot?
>become
He never used Linux for his desktop.

Doesn't matter. He built a near-perfect distro.
You have to go back.

Attached: 213515213.png (688x1430, 165K)

For me, it's Gentoo.

Attached: 1543411100969.jpg (749x774, 53K)

Mark your calendars, boys. In 5 years ya'll be shilling Clear Linux

redpill me on this shit.

thats not how you say GNU/Hurd

It's nice to see you doing what you're told. Good boy.

You seem like a fucking retard who messed your Arch install up because you are that stupid and now you have to defend yourself for using Ubuntu. Fucking cunt.

>be linuxnewfag considering arch
>this guy is so seething mad he's actually convinced me to avoid it
kek

Nope. I have points and I stated them. You had nothing to add that wasn't personal hate. You post like an angry teenager who lost a bit too often in vidya today. You convince no one with that crap.
