Would it be possible to have a hidden Veracrypt volume with a Linux installation on my laptop? I have a 250GB SSD and a 500GB HDD. What I would want to do is install Windows on a partition as big as half of the SSD, and have an encrypted Linux installation on the other half, in a hidden veracrypt volume. How would I boot from the hidden volume? From what I understand its purpose is to store just data, not a bootable OS.

I for one am unironically on some dumb watchlist since I was attending Ukraine troubles in 2014-2016 and other similar things. Every single time I travel by air I am checked for at least half an hour, including personal check, complete luggage check, full interview (where exactly I travel, where I will be staying, why, what I will be doing there, how long I will be staying, how much money I have with me, to give them my number and email etc.) sometimes they try to play rough cops with all the usual bullshit too. When I carry electronics with me, they are usually checked too - and since I travel rather frequently, I have now two laptops (one for regular work in my country and one for traveling), one main desktop at home, two burner phones (one for home and one for traveling - traveling one I usually rotate after each use, because they usually have some private time with it - I very much recommend Sencor Element Mini for this purpose) and one regular smartphone at home. It's just too much of a hustle and risk to carry and use just one laptop/phone for everything.
